  1. My garage normally sits around 50. I imagine if it dropped down to negative numbers I would worry about it getting below 32 but I doubt it. You can also insulate your garage door. They sell kits
  2. I would stay out of norfolk all together. Neighborhoods have changed alot during the recession. Chesapeake is/was nice when I lived there. Stay away from Portsmouth. Ghent is near the college. They have been trying for 15 years to make it nice because of that but its not working. Virginia beach is nice as you go out near pungo (gets alittle country out there). Just get a good realtor which basically means they are willing to break the law and tell you where you will be murdered.
  3. Be careful in Norfolk area. Get a good realtor and check the neighborhood during work hours and at night. I lived there for 7 years and there are some really sketchy places that look fine during the day.... my favorite was this nice neighborhood we were looking in when a large black truck with tinted windows rolls up... the guy polity informs me to not be in his neighborhood when he comes back... Just be careful and best of luck. Iam not sure about reef clubs down there. So many people are in the service and leave for almost a year at a time which makes having a tank hard.
  4. Around here it seems to be people moving. People come to this area when they are driven. That means work may change dramatically over night. I took down a nice tank when I moved and have been struggling with it ever since. I do not plan on quiting but I get it.
  5. e common fluorescent light bulb (15 – 40 Watts) that is provided with most hoods doesn’t significantly add much cost. Planted tanks with higher lighting requirements that use power compacts (30- 100 Watts) or VHO fluorescent bulbs (75 and 160 Watts) and/or a combination thereof obviously will lead to higher power consumption. A reef tank may even run on metal halides which run from 150 – 1000 Watts – and that will quickly add to the bill.
  6. I know certain foods like rods dont need rinsing because he uses RODI to make his mix. I personally have never rinsed
  7. I grew sps fine in my old tank but would kill zoas... well not kill but they would not grow so they would melt if anything shifted. Now I keep my tank dirtier and grow zoas fine and still have some sps which grows fine. (Non of my sps is considered difficult though) My color is pretty nice also. Mike palleta also feeds heavily in his super overstocked tanks and everything he has looks amazing. I feel people stress to much over having that pristine glass box of water and some corals suffer from that.
  8. You should make it like factory. The numbers are set with the whole board in mind. By changing it your stressing something else out which will fail. You would think they would coat these boards to stop corrosion considering what they are for.
  9. I would look up rich ross tanks. His tank had numbers so high that corals should have been dieing but they thrive.
  10. I take mine off and soak it in vinegar when it starts to act up. It will work fine once you give it a good cleaning.
  11. Its why i said education. We learn something new everyday. Someone has to be the first. Basic sayings like cooking rock lead to problems because a novice will read that and possibly think something else.
  12. I plan on using bleech and regular water when I do mine. Ill rinse in RODI. Iam also not planning on using the rock in the near future.
  13. You could make cheto sandwich using . http://www.reef2reef.com/threads/chaeto-egg-crate-sandwich-idea.144659/ you just give it a haircut when it gets to long
  14. Tanks looking pretty good. Once those Zoas start to spread it will look better.
  15. Thats not really the answer. Education is. Expressions like "cooking rock" need to be changed to bleaching rock or acid bath. At least then they wont try to boil them. Signs at LFS stating that gloves should be worn while handling. Basic education goes a long way.
  16. Sounds like BS to me. With as many attacks against the trade as there are... I am guessing its made up
  17. I initial drop was steady then seemed to slow down for the high but not the low.
  18. agreed. If your going to make the plunge... Do this. I guess it also depends on what your keeping. How high of a calc need is there. Does constancy matter for you or was it like my old tank where I could dump in 2 part any time of the day as long as I did it everyday.
  19. I dont know Issac. Iam building a 125 a 40b (cycling now) and a 20 long for my daughter and I am most excited about the 20. Maybe its because you can do really unique things with the small ones. Could be that my daughter is really excited about having her own tank which makes me excited to build it.
  20. I believe the point where you are dosing over 60mil of each is where its no longer financially viable for 2 part. That was from a reef threads podcast with an expert in reef chemistry.
  21. I believe the 17th weekend is the bull run October beer fest... Cheers
  22. Step right up folks and see the miracle method for splitting your anemone. You sir.... You look like a man with tank problems. Step right up and watch the miracle that is the filter sock method.
  23. maroons tend to be big A holes. People are saying the lighting maroons are on the more docile side for maroons though.
