  1. 14 cube... You could prob get a used kessil. It would create a clean look that doesnt need a hood
  2. I use a wavepoint for my 2.6 and its seems to do fine. I got the 6 inch but the 12 inch is $69. From the videos of reefs that use it... keeps up to low light sps
  3. I am never a fan of the federal government doing anything honestly. Hawaii has zone a pretty outstanding job on its own.
  4. I put a fighting conch in my daughter 5 gallon. Sand has been clean ever since. You will have to make sure you supplement feed with a tank this small though.
  5. Electronic wise you can most likly fix alot of them. There will be caps in line with the power supply that blow. 9 times out of 10 replacing them fix the problem
  6. I want to but new job within the past year and I dont have any vacation to use yet. All that I have has to be used for my trip to mexico this coming year
  7. Fish only... how disappointing. Fish only tanks should have softies. Different mushrooms can look nice and add a good amount of color
  8. I always found siphone and 2 days of black out works. Iam fighting a small outbreak right now. Finally getting ahead of it.
  9. Iam going to be up in OC Wednesday thru Sat. If I ordered today under the sales could I pick my order up in person Saturday. When does your 50% off $15 or more frag sale stop?
  10. Iam down with a wamas meeting there.. they wont allow vendors though because of health regs. Maybe just a meet up
  11. Clams can close pretty hard. Mine pinched me the other day and it kinda hurt...... teach me to try to do a quick water change. I moved it to vacuum the sand underneath.
  12. Its setup.. I used Marine pure balls in one compartment and let it cycle for 2 months. It has 1 pulsing xenia in it right now. Trying to decide what other softies I want. Needs more color
  13. Thats projection though. We dont actually know the cause because they just say global warming.. What data points are there... what chemical analysis was done of the surrounding water... what weather was there. what was the suns activity at the time.. Why did some bleach while other did not. I look at things from a scientific stand point and global warming is not approached that way. Theres a reason non of the models actually pass the scientific method. THey cant because they fill in to many gaps along the way and there are not enough hard data points. In the end.. there is to much money and incentive to reach the conclusion they want to the tune of 800 billion a year. I suppose we should be glad that have been wrong.. We would be underwater right now if they were right.
  14. Ever notice they don't put temperatures in these articles. At what temperature is this happening? What are the water perimeters in the ponding areas? How does this compare to the bleaching in 98? What were the parameters of the water in 98. What kind of weather are they having in the area... more storms... less storms... bigger storms? Not much of a scientific article if you ask me. If this is truly being causes by us.. the reefs are done. We cant stop it. By the time we could 100% of reef will be gone.
  15. Actually they kind of contradicted themselves. They want to blame it on Global warming because its easy. If you read other articles they mention this bleaching is happening in areas with alot of cloud cover also which have been cooler. Its very wide spread and not just areas getting blasted by sun light. They are dredging a new canal... that could be causing some of this. They also have excessive run off which we know because of the crown of thorns star fish problem they are having. I would not pin this on any one event especially since the way its happening. Its skipping reef along the way... They have also had alot of storms latly
  16. Thats why you drain first. The corals will survive... fish lose space and might not be able to reach its rock work if its out of the water
  17. Try the drain a corner method. Basically start taking the water out like a water change... then take a piece of plexi an section the tank off trapping him away from his rock
  18. It was produced by eco warriors that have been trying to destroy the hobby for years. No real fact checking went into the article. If you read it they claim we cant breed fish. Exposure to cyanide also does not mean caught with it. You have to think of how they are held. They are all put into the same holding tank. If you get a fish from china that was caught using cyanide and its put into a holding tank with other fish... all those fish would test positive now. The study never talks levels. It would seem national geographic is on its death spiral. It was bought by ruppurt murdoch. http://boingboing.net/2015/11/05/shortly-after-rupert-murdoch-b.html The magazine can no longer be trusted for facts.
  19. Love this.... "but doesn't retract if you poke at it"
  20. I listen to reef threads podcast all the time. A few weeks ago they were talking about this batch with the people doing it. At the time they were still unsure and its good to see they made it. Now the question is.. can they repeat. One of the issues they were having is some batches would make it and others would not and they could not figure out why. Experiments went from water agitation.. salinity... food density.. lighting. The amazing part is that this starts with yellows and eventually makes it to all tangs.
  21. Sorry.. should have been more clear. It allows the use of a smaller fan to vent humidity plus braces the floor above. You have to plumb a vent out but it keeps the humidity in a small area.
