Seed your tank with coraline shavings from another tank that has it growing on the glass?

I noticed that the doser was off when I came home. With the house open all day the pH was higher than then limit I set to prevent the doser from overdosing alk. Is there such a thing as too high?

I have the octo pulse 4 on one end and a gyre on the other end of a 180. I use it on the tide setting and it moves a ton of water but it is probably the loudest thing in my tank. I assume if I changed it to constant I would notice it as much.

I just opened the small 100ml part A and B and noticed they are not sealed in any way. Can anyone who uses this advise if their product is usually sealed? Wondering if it was a return and if to trust it enough to put into the tank.

Surely that would be preferred but somewhere in my "research" either Paul B or David Ramsey (has some great you tube videos) said it was fine and it was getting hard to find just plain potting soil. I generally wouldn't put bread, yogurt, yeast flakes or cat food in my tank either but here we are.

I hope Paul chimes in but I'm just using miracle grow potting soil. I was pleasantly surprised to see how many worms were in there when I buried the bread and added cat food. Almost no action on the surface but many in the soil.

Thanks for the advice to bury the bread. I already had some spikey hair looking fungus and was wondering what I got myself into.

I would recalibrate it and see depending on what types of redundancies you have in place if it is not going to have any accuracy. I never did get a high accuracy temp probe (NIST) but used everything I had to measure water temp and averaged those. Most were really close. Makes me wonder if recalibration is needed as part of regular maintenance?

This sump is 90 gal and I only move it a few inches but it has held up fine for 5 years.

I think that people who are involved in the hobby and spending the equivalent of the GDP of a small nation are okay with spending 20 buck to join. Almost all of the reefers I have met, I have met through WAMAS. It would be a hard sell to get someone who is not a reefer to join. Live demos seem like a good idea as I am always looking for ways to be better steward.

Has anyone calibrated their temp probe? This time of year I struggle keeping the tank as stable as I would like. It's cold in the morning and warmer during the day. So if the heat for the house is on in the morning, the house may get a little too warm by the afternoon. So I'm looking at my apex and wondering just how accurate the temp is. I would assume the fluctuation I may see would tell me the degree of change but I really want to know what the actual temp is. Before I go buying a NIST calibrated thermometer I was wondering if anyone here has one I could borrow for about 5 minutes.

+1 on aussie I have had mine for over a year, my only complaint is his taste for snails. Any snail that wonders to that area of the tank will be eaten.

I'm told that items need to be picked up or shipped by thursday due to space limitations.

Are there multiple pairs? Red? Green? How much? What live food are you feeding?

The tank has a huge glass center brace that would have limited maintainace of the internal overflow so I seperated them. I didnt want to run 2 seperate externals so I had it made long enough to tie both into one. It seems to be working well thus far. Tank is cycling now and still have plenty of work to do. I also had lids made to help prevent creatures from taking a ride to the sump.
