where is this happening? maybe I can escape the office for a bit to help if nearby.

that insert won't work or won't work easily with RO tubing as it is not meant to function with the ID of RO line. he'll have a heck of a time getting that inserted, then tightening it. if you have the self-piercing saddle valve that came with your RO unit, then use the compression nut that came with that instead and that will work much easier and securely. hopefully your saddle valve came complete with insert and compression nut - it is hard to tell in the photo of it above.

negative. preferred reefer and groupbuy pricing are different pricing. the latter being better pricing and only achievable through a groupbuy and during the groupbuy purchase period, typically one week. preferred reefer status is nice on most items but groupbuy is just a bit better
-
haha, yeah so preferred reefer status is in between retail and group buy pricing. during a group buy, you have group buy rates which are even cheaper than your everyday preferred reefer rates so its usually worth it to try to jump on a group buy for the extra savings, especially on the BRS components or named products.
-
yeah, they do sales all the time. the best is to hop on a BRS GB. there seems to always be one on one of the forums going on and then you know you're getting the best price and shipping to your door.
-
that's unfortunate, it's an awesome upgrade and i've been able to tally up the savings month to month on my bill. but you're not it's not for everyone. thankfully my sister and i who live five block from each other and have the BRS 150GPD upgrade both have 90+ psi coming in from the supply line of our water heaters where i've setup the "fish rooms". you could always install a cheap booster pump as it will pay for itself very quickly. just a valuable option for some of us, i suppose.

glad it helped guys! check out their other videos, they have well produced (albeit sometimes slow-paced) reefing videos covering hundreds of topics and series that cover setting up tanks, maintenance, fragging, etc. it's great too because most of the stuff they suggest or use in the videos they obviously sell and BRS usually has the best prices around and even better if you can jump on a BRS groupbuy that are always popping up on various forums. g'luck!
-
that's really cool, jan! it's incredible rare for that to happen in hobbyist aquaria.

have you seen the BRS videos on RO/DI units, install, etc? i had my sister who i'm helping start a new reef build go through all of them to better understand our new endeavor. specifically for RO/DI install check out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTONjczeGGY it might give you some more ideas or at the very least provide an image to what everyone is talking to you about. i would second the idea of using a tap to the supply line with a float valve that will "turn off" the RO/DI unit from producing any water via the auto-shut off valve which i think is standard with all RO/DI units nowadays. if you don't have one, you can pick one up from BRS: http://www.bulkreefs...ct/view/id/105/ and if the RO/DI unit you have doesn't have two membranes, i highly suggest upgarding your unit by purchasing a second one like the BRS 150gpd upgrade kit. you'll double the RO/DI water you create in the same time and cut waste-water to at least half. i dont know if you pay your own utilities so the latter might not be of interest to you but being able to produce 150gpd vs 75 is a huge plus at a really affordable PnP option. the link for that is http://www.bulkreefs...ct/view/id/328/

he mentioned he has a skimmate locker so not a big deal either way.

i have three evansi in qt now. anything particular you noticed while in QT? did you prophylactically treat them? once in the display tank do you have an auto feeder for the multiple feedings, if so, which one? beautiful picture of those guys. wonderful job. kind of looks like a a majestic in between the color morph from juvi to adult. which is it? gorgeous fish.
-
thanks guys for the info. scott, i gotta come take a look at your tank again as i don't remember the nem but it was also bed-time for the tank last time i was there. do you feed your nems and if so, how often and what? chuck, defintely post up a video when you get a chance. i'm really taken with nems lately and am constantly looking for rare and vibrant colored BTA.
-
hey chuck thanks for your reply. how long did the splitting take? did it start from the middle and go straight through the foot and mouth? or does the foot of the parent stay intact and the mouth splits?
-
can we get an updated photo?
-
jan, any update on this nem baby? did anyone ever understand what happened or how this guy arrived in its current spot if not by splitting? is it possible a piece of some nem got cut or torn and landed there?
-
oh, and i've always been a fan of target feeding nems for optimal growth. usually an appropriate size of shrimp or silversides that they accept and don't "throw up" about once a week or so. what have you used or fed and in what schedule that you believe has helped natural splitting?
-
i started up a nem/clown tank a while ago with my 46g in-wall. it's running fallow while i figure out what clowns i want in there and get them through QT. in the interim, my nems have been doing wonderfully. i only keep BTA for now and will be adding some rock/flower nems down the road when i find some spectacular pieces. i've split nems in the past or fragged them manually for friends but have not had a nem tank of my own to see it happen naturally. i did some research and some folks describe a rather quick one-day process. others mention a much longer splitting progression. this had me curious about some RBTAs i picked up from yauger about a month or two ago, one of which seems to be splitting. sorry for the crappy cell phone pics but is this what it looks like to you? what i see more pronounced every day is the fold/split on the left center side of the anemone which move deeper and deeper towards the mouth. is the split including the foot and mouth? does the split normally occur directly in the middle when it happens naturally? anyone have any photos of their own to share? thanks for any information you can provide!

Does my new Copperband Butterfly have ich?!?
monkiboy replied to Grinder0909's topic in General Discussion
looks like ich to me too. i would get it out and into a hospital tank ASAP and begin treatment accordingly. if you're nearby and need some meds, let me know as i just stocked my qt/hospital tank medicine cabinet a few weeks ago. good luck, sir.- 26 replies

+1 don't want to go from one extreme to another - good point!

the website she gave was fishyfarmacy.com in case you wanted to try that in the future and weren't pressed for time. g'luck, sir.

I've grown chaeto under 3500k CFL bulb really well. and now I have the fuge PAR38 light from RB and I would say the chaeto grows faster with it. there's more red spectrum in the lower Kelvin temperature bulb so it'll work better with a 3500k than a 6000k and the 660nm being the fastest bulb for growing chaeto, in my experience.

great, i got your PM. i'll give him a ring!

thank you for the speaker, indeed.. loved that she didn't do one of those reading verbatim from the deck kind of presentations. awesome job all around!
-
haha, i was happy to see you win, sir. you really could use that thing. good luck with the sale of the other unit and your build!

thanks for the information, folks. i've heard back from tony already with a quote and will check out the place alan suggested as well for comparison. i've actually used the latter before for my entrance gate and they were great and affordable.
