  1. I will say that I ran with an alk of around 5dKh for about 2 years with no ill effects seen; corals were all growing and doing good. I did have a few SPS but they grew pretty slow. I have since raised my alk to around 7dKh over a 1-2 week period and have already seen a drastic increase in overall SPS health, no noticeable change in my LPS as of yet. There is no reason IMO to worry about a lower than normal alk level as long as it is stable. Granted you might not see as much growth as quickly but as long as your corals are all happy, I see no reason for concern.
  2. Target feeding is where it's at with these guys. Mine get target fed pretty much every day when i feed the fish. Not only does it make them grow faster but if you feed them regularly, then they have to stay opened up more so they can digest the food and hence look better all the time.
  3. For those that liked the growth shots, here are a few from my dendros. I got two single heads back in 2011 I think. Very slow growers but I have also moved liked 4 times or something since then so that may be a factor as well. They still just as orange as previous pics but the color was a little off in this pic.
  4. Well now there is no chance of that as the little guy developed a taste for SPS polyps and had to go. He was doing so well and leaving them alone for a long time but apparently the new acro I got was too appetizing. It was a sad day as he was one of my favorite fish but he went to a good home and a big tank.
  5. Thanks! I think the stand is 3' tall, not 100% sure. As for the sand, it didn't look like that all the time. For awhile there it was a blanket of red and brown from a really bad cyano outbreak I had. But I got that under control and then got a diamond goby who keeps it sifted and nice and white. I also have the super fine sand that helps prohibit coralline and other growth on it because the particles are so small. It can be a pain though as it's a lot easier to create sandstorms.
  6. I think it said it had a 2hr set time but I wasn't sure how "sticky" it was and if it would be enough to hold a frag in place while it sets.
  7. I was at Home Depot tonight and saw that they had a Locktite 2 part marine epoxy. It's the kind that comes in two syringes and not a putty. It says it will bond wet surfaces and I was wondering if anybody here has used it for things like gluing frags that are already on a plug down.
  8. Looks awesome! I did the whole tank while in college thing for all four years. Started with a 10gal brackish that had a few puffers in it and then moved up to a saltwater biocube 29 for the last two years but by then I was renting a house.
  9. That's quite the plumbing contraption for the return. If I were you, I would rethink the coast to coast overflow. I have one on my 40B and it takes up a decent amount of space depending on how you do it. Mine is used in conjunction with a bean-animal overflow system. The overflow works like a dream but when you account for the elbows needed for the BA overflow, the overflow box pushes out about 5-6" into the tank. Now if you did one on the far right or left of the tank, that went the entire length of the side of the tank as opposed to one that went along the back wall, then I think you would be good. Just some thoughts.
  10. Oh, and few growth shots. Purple bonsai 12/8/13 (the day I got it) Purple bonsai 1/26/14 Green birdsnest 12/8/13 Green birdsnest 1/26/14
  11. Went a little crazy with the camera this afternoon and decided to post up some updated coral shots. Dendro, purchased as a single head about 2 years ago. It's taken a long time to grow but well worth it. Miami Hurricane chalice Purchased as a Phoenix chalice and was solid red but now it's starting to develop some other color patterns in it. Can't wait to see what it turns into. Black suns, and this is during the middle of the day! I do believe my training them to stay open during the day is now complete. One of my new clams from Pacific East Aquaculture Some green palys, not sure if they have an actual name or not. If anyone knows, please chime in. Pink palys, the ones that are part of the SWAP program

  13. Yeah, I didn't think they were your pics. Found it kind of funny though.
  14. Good to hear that your angel is doing good. A little off topic here but for some reason when I see this thread on my phone through Tapatalk, it puts random pictures up. I was originally very intrigued why you were asking about an issue with your angel but were posting pics of the Pope and other places.
  15. Those chalices are awesome looking! How about you just slide one of those my way at the meeting.
  16. Awesome idea! I've always wondered when somebody would get around to making something like this.
  17. Never had that happen before but I do believe they are just regular phone cables. I would try switching out the cables first.
  18. My hammer does that from time to time. There will be a week or two span where it doesn't open fully and seems retracted. Never corresponded to any kind of change in the tank and it was back and right as rain before I knew it.
  19. That hammer is awesome! I've never seen one so bright orange before.
  20. Welcome to the club and area! +1 to what everyone has said about Quantum. The guys there are great and can get you anything you need.
  21. That's an awesome looking tank and I think that the high level of P04 is ok because he doesn't even have a place for any algae to grow! Thanks for the link, very interesting.
  22. Manual removal for me as well and if there was a spot I couldn't get every last bit then I covered it with a dab of superglue and then a little bit of sand to disguise it if needed.
  23. Any news on the giant worm of death front?
