1. Not necessarily though. I have a clown that is hosting a brain and after putting two difference nems in the tank, it's still living in the brain.
2.

I turn off all pumps, put my camera on a tripod, and take the shots through the side. I also open the aperture up to around f/11, for those camera guys out there.
3.

I'm using a Sony A-350 DSLR with a 100mm macro lens. There were no adjustments made afterward either. All photos are as shot.
4. I recently purchased a new 100mm dedicated macro lens for my DSLR and just had to try it out. Let me know what you guys think. This little bugger is a pain to get him to sit still long enough for a good shot:
5. So then sealing up the gap should solve your problem. I'm not sure how your overflow is designed but I would think it doesn't matter how the water gets into the overflow box as long as it finds its way back down to your sump. Granted that lessens the effect of your surface skimmer by not having the full amount of water flowing through the teeth.
6. So would you say that the combined rate of flow into the overflow box from both the gap in the side and the teeth at the top is equal to how fast you add it to the tank?
7. It all depends on how fast you add water to the tank. The faster you dump water in, the faster it will fill the overflow.
8. So water is still going into the overflow box, but just through the gap in the side of it? I guess I'm just a little confused here about how you expect the overflow to be functioning properly without a return pump to fill it up? If the tank were to have water added at a faster rate, say from a return pump, then wouldn't the rate at which it's being added be greater than what it is seeping through and gap and thus cause water to overflow through the little teeth at the top?
9. Well, depending on how powerful your return pump is well depend on how fast the water pours into your overflow. Without a return pump running right now, the only way to get water going back into the overflow is to keep adding more water.
10. A picture would help but it kind of sounds like to me that you just don't have enough water in there.
11. I've built my own fixture before. If you'd like, I'd be happy to make one for you.
12. yeah, sounds like your pump is pulling air in from somewhere, some pics would be helpful too.
13. I'm a little confused as to why air is going in. Is there any water leaking out and around what hole is this happening?
14. Yeah, their coating works the same for euphyllias as it does for anemones. The only downside is euphyllias sometimes don't take to the clowns as well as we would like. I have seen numerous people have their frogspawn/hammer/torch die from being pestered by their clown for an extended period of time.
15. I've been on the email list for a midas blenny for a long time now. Everytime one comes in stock, it sells before I can grab it. Finally I was able to get one and I couldn't just let it be the only thing in the order so I picked up a new firefish, two tomato clowns, and an anemone shrimp (who has already found a home in my bta). The firefish, blenny, and shrimp are all going in my 40B and the tomato clowns get the Biocube 29 all to themselves, well they have to share it with my sexy shrimp but I don't think they mind. The Midas Blenny has to be my favorite fish so far! Here are some photos:
16. Sounds like a crazy day. Glad to hear everything is back in order.
17. I have their fine sand in my tank and it doesn't look yellow at all. Not sure how it would compare to the coarse though.
18. I use an old gift card or credit credit card. They also make magnet scrubbers specifically for acrylic that I've used before and they work good as well.
19. Having an ammonia reading indicates to me that you either had something die or are going through a cycle. Did you let your tank fully cycle when you first started it? I saw that it was only 3 months old. As for the reaquascaping, that could have stirred up some stuff in your sand bed and hence the spike. As for the cyano, that's most likely a product of the increase in nitrates. Your tests may show a reading a 0 but that may just be because the cyano is eating it all up. If the bulbs were old then the shift in spectrum can trigger algae blooms as well.
20. It's not actually sitting in the rocks. The base of it is epoxied onto a small rock just to make placement easier. It's sitting in front of the rest of my aquascape.
21. So I introduced myself on here a few days ago and here are some up close shots of my 40B inhabitants. I love my LPS corals and my newly added bta. As you can see, my clown has taken a liking to my brain coral. Let me know what you guys think.
22. Thanks, I was glad everything made the move from MO without any issues.
23. I just moved out to the area back at the end of July. I'm a recent college grad and I'm currently working for Lockheed Martin. Wanted to introduce myself to the club and post some info about my tank. I've been a member on 3reef for quite some time now as well. Well as far as my tank goes, I have a 40B with a 20 sump/fuge and a 29gal biocube that is my frag and mini reef tank. The 40B is lit by a DIY 36LED Rapid LED fixture, has a coast to coast overflow with a Bean Animal overflow, 2x Hydor Evo 750s with a Hydor Smartwave controller, a Reef Octo 110 skimmer, and a Mag 7 return. My BC has a Current Sundial 4 bulb T5 fixture with a Rio 1400 return and an Aquatic Life Mini internal protein skimmer. It's currently empty as it's an upgrade from my 10gal frag tank but will be full very soon. Well here are some pics:
