  1. I live on a quarter acre, and I can't even imagine how many corals and inverts lived on that much reef. Sad. However, maybe this sacrifice will lead to a very rich contributor donating $ to a larger scale replenishment...one would hope
  2. I haven't kept one, so take this for what it is...info from someone like you whose looked into it a little. Yes, they'll eat pods...but will also eat other food once they learn to. They are difficult to keep as they ship poorly, being stressed with few places to dig into the sand and hide...and probably from lack of a food source they'll eat from. Can the LFS show you it's eating? If it's eating and you have a sand bed and a large tank that can accommodate multiple pod hunters then I have to assume you'd be ok???
  3. This was a beautiful piece, that would be great if you could find another as well
  4. Yeah, I almost suggested a green polyp toadstool...but you have the green anthella. Good luck getting parameters back on track...sure you will...buts it's good to know you have durable livestock. I've done that "experiment" myself once too.
  5. Love the woodwork. Beautiful nems. As you're an LPS/softy guy primarily, have you considered a wall hammer, australian elegance, a torch, or big photosynthetic gorg for that empty spot....might be a nice fit for your style. cheers
  6. If you're willing to build a canopy, you could also build a light shield for a hanging light. Put it on the tank...or (if light enough) put it on the light. The ATI light hanging kit also allows you to put more weight forward or backward...so it can effectively be tilted a little bit forward or back; just a few degrees tilt helped me limit light spill up front and I don't see it unless close and low. Also, my ATI is like ~8" off the tank and the TV is right beside the tank...no glare for me.
  7. I've shoveled 3x, and apparently I have to do it at least once more. Should have paid the college kids who came by with fliers the $25 they wanted to show up tomorrow... much cheaper that the masseuse I'm going to need
  8. That sounds like a plan. I'm totally down for that. Thanks!
  9. Now that's what I'm talking about...someone willing to use a blow torch to protect his livestock My RODI is running right now and I've put the waste line to a tub...2-for-1
  10. The good news is that with the increased snow predictions it's less likely that godzilla and stay puft marshmallow man will be able to hike in and zap us. Thank goodness, cuz I was worried about that part! (this only makes sense if you can see John Solo's post) Hope we're all ready for the real challenge...good luck everybody
  11. In an ice storm in North Carolina I attempted to keep my freshwater tank warm enough after an outage by heating tank water on a gas grill and pouring it back into the tank...heat, repeat, break, heat, repeat.... etc. I didn't lose anything and I was without power for like 2-3days. Never underestimate how resourceful and motivated you can be as an aquarist :-)
  12. Derkroon is a new one on me...Got any pics of thatt setup? And what setting are you using on the mp40? I have a newish 90 and one end (opposite corner overflow) is viewable along with the front...so I'm also trying to avoid a pump on that side viewing pane. I just don't have space behind the tank for an external vortech like you.
  13. Looking great! So how exactly are you conquering flow with the unidirectional vortechs and the way you've placed them? its obviously working
  14. %^$#@%^&**&^^^ ...does that count? ;-) Congrats, thank you for your efforts
  15. My fish are doing great! Thanks for all the conversation and wisdom today. Get your butts in to BRK while the getting is good. I saw staples and also some very off-beat stuff....like a gold head tilefish pair.
  16. Should I already be getting this notice by text? I'd texted to sign up based on a past post like this...but haven't seen this come through on my phone yet this time
  17. Perhaps environmental response? What kind of salinity and temp do you have? I had a potters angel turn mostly blue on me...I got so excited and then it ended up carpet surfing...never figured it out
  18. Ok, please just shoot me a note if it works out that you'll have some. Cheers Alan
  19. If you will be going to the meeting in a few weeks I would welcome a jar so I can stock up a 90g. I know some people don't like them, but I've always felt they helped a tank. Any chance of meeting at the meeting?
  20. Thx, appreciate you two chiming in. We don't have a WAMAS discount for the National Aquarium do we?
  21. Hey, was thinking of taking my kids on MLK Monday...anyone ever gone then to know how busy it gets. Any advice on logistics or seeing the best current exhibits? I don't think we've been 3-4 years and things do change. Thanks!
  22. I haven't done the overflow gpu calc, but I wouldn't drill. Use the 3/4 as the main.
  23. Livestock plans yet?
  24. Can you hang something? Different options for canopy versus light shield
