  1. Perhaps environmental response? What kind of salinity and temp do you have? I had a potters angel turn mostly blue on me...I got so excited and then it ended up carpet surfing...never figured it out
  2. Ok, please just shoot me a note if it works out that you'll have some. Cheers Alan
  3. If you will be going to the meeting in a few weeks I would welcome a jar so I can stock up a 90g. I know some people don't like them, but I've always felt they helped a tank. Any chance of meeting at the meeting?
  4. Thx, appreciate you two chiming in. We don't have a WAMAS discount for the National Aquarium do we?
  5. Hey, was thinking of taking my kids on MLK Monday...anyone ever gone then to know how busy it gets. Any advice on logistics or seeing the best current exhibits? I don't think we've been 3-4 years and things do change. Thanks!
  6. I haven't done the overflow gpu calc, but I wouldn't drill. Use the 3/4 as the main.
  7. Can you hang something? Different options for canopy versus light shield
  8. Deep blue makes a 20x20x12 tank ...or at least did. I have one I planned on using for a 2 piece sump when I had a 129 with stand limitations. Sold that 120, but kept the 20x20 for other uses....not sure I'd part with it right now but you could probably buy one new and and do diy glass baffles.
  9. For saltwater... 10g mixed reef back in 2003/4-ish...fell in love with tigah-boy's nano and had my first rainbow acan here (and joined my first reef club, in Raleigh NC) Then, a 30g cube in 2006 - total fail on my part while living to two places during grad school...hair algae so bad I tossed the rock in the woods to avoid giving someone else the same headache...then took a long break (joined Hampton Roads Reef Club back then) 46bow SPS reef started 2012 when I joined WAMAS - had been great little setup and is still up after my house move even though I lost most livestock, limping along until I exit it 90g reef tank recently finished cycle...livestock free at the moment...man do I want to find time to buy some fish 150g cube, waiting in my unfinished basement for me to get it all together and we'll see what we do exactly
  10. Isaac, how much evap/top-off are you seeing these days? Looking good...and easy...which is great
  11. 7-8, stable is the real priority and I shoot to be where my salt mix gets me rather than adding additional alk during water changes
  12. Can you elaborate on the rationale? Curious, hoping to learn something new
  13. Have you considered sacrificing some gas exchange and dropping a large acrylic tray into part of the open top and using netting elsewhere? Think giant removable porthole. The old fluval 5g has most of its top below the water line and those picos seem to work...and a sump for gas exchange may help compensate...I dunno...just a thought
  14. Curious how much flow you've obsreved...any movement on your sandbed? I have 90 that I need to get fish in, but we had a baby and that takes priority. I have a two outlet T return from a eheim compact 3000 (think that's the #). I also have a single WP40. Each of the ways I've played with the WP40 placement I end up with sand blown out one side of the tank and piled to the other side. I hear the RWs have wider flow, so maybe I'll try one.
  15. Sam, what kind of volume do you buy in to support what kind of livestock? Curious what proportions are needed for straight up feeding versus population seeding. Cheers
  16. You should post some pics, that will help. If you decide to part out, let me know some details on the sump...may be interested
  17. Just be sure to measure and make sure you have room in the canopy
  18. Keep the gear that's helpful and that you're truly likely to re-use SOON. If you hold it and don't use it, it'll lose value...if you're going to use it, you won't get what it's worth to you. Keep your rock, it's easy enough and you can cherry pick what you use in a smaller tank later if you go smaller. Part the livestock out or find someone to hold it. If you find a small tank you can dump some of your live rock in it and get a very short cycle...you may even get to keep and transport some sentimental corals that way.
  19. Some would say 6 bulb, some would say 8, some would say as many as you could possibly fit. If I were you, I would leave a little space front to back to add reefbrite strips to complement the t5 bulbs. ATI is a well known and trusted fixture if you want to hang one, and reefbrite strips are made with brackets to hang from the screws already designed into the ATI fixture's exterior. You could also find some cool german stff from time to time...or go DIY rigging. ATI bulbs are the most used whatever fixture you used. Ask folks running the same fixture as you select what they like for bulb selections so you can get a feel for color rendering. On a four-bulb I have reefbrite tech led strip, P+, B+, C+, B+ and have always liked it. I like it best when there is one reefbrite tech and the C+,B+ back bulbs on.
  20. Best to put the tank perpendicular to joists if upper level. Hardwoods should be installed perpendicular to joists too if you see them and need a visual cue. May be easier to start over and sell livestock to avoid loss. But you could also have better luck than me with better planning. Look into Reef Chief down that way. Also, HRRC isn't as active as WAMAS but you should be able to make some connections... they are having their big sponsored meeting down there next month I believe. Look into Ghent if you like Norfolk... at least that's what a friend used to tell me. Cheers
  21. Dang, maybe I can skip my son's b-day to see this. ;-0 Wish it'd been a weekend presentation for MACNA. Any chance we'll record it this time?
  22. Are you using the same filters referenced earlier or something slightly different? Where did you get yours? Oops, nevermind...that was your link to the ebay seller
