  1. Thought you guys would get a kick out of this. Or something. I now have a new fear anyway.
  2. No TBH, I've already taken off some of the original frags to make a little room, but I also ran into an issue recently with several colonies just closing up. Most came back, but my kiwis and pink zoas haven't come back at all and are still closed up tight. I put a frag plug behind my arctic ice palys to keep them away from the purple slimer. Hopefully once they grow onto it, I can take it out, replace it and just keep repeating for easy frags. Those pink and golds tho... I've also got to cut back the encrusting gorg. It's running rampant on my sps rock and encroaching on my acans.
  3. WOW that looks like a color mutation, but that's gorgeous! Best still I could grab
  4. It's back! Moved this tank to my desk at work after just using it as a QT for awhile. The C. cyanea female has been hanging out in the 30g Display's fuge area so that I could just focus on one tank's water quality. Now that I've got the swing of things with that tank, I wanted to give her her own space again where she has more interaction. Tank is completely set up specifically as a display for her (and maybe a +1). Several caves and space for digging. As soon as the new rock is seeded I'll probably remove that top piece, so aquascape may change once the fish is established. I have a little all-blue male in QT I'm still debating on whether or not to pair her with in this tank. The glare makes photo's hard. Bringing more frags and cuc from home on Monday. New Stocklist: Chrysiptera cyanea x1 (or maybe 2?) Fire shrimp 3 Mexican hermits 2 Chestnut snails 1 Astrea hitchhiker mussel Caulerpa prolifera, Red Grape Caulerpa serrata (in back chamber) LPS/Softies/Macros
  5. http://wamas.org/forums/topic/76504-150g-rimless-tank-and-equipment/ Could you put in a couple of support beams? Like a house jack but "nicer" in a bedroom? I'm not a DIYer so I have no idea what I'm talking about...
  6. More pics!!! My favorite part of the tank: I think these two love the algae clip more than the tang. And it didn't take too long for these two to pair up again. (the female) New heads on each of my acans. Green monti and red cap both lost some color a couple weeks ago, still waiting on them to come back, plus a few others. Very happy hawkins echinata, not so happy lokani behind it. Corner shots! I can never get a good pic of the CB, way too dark, but for once she was still enough. RBTA being well behaved for once, clowns, not so much. Fat and happy tang, still healing.
  7. Thanks! All of the aiptasia is driving me nuts. Kalk paste, aiptasia x... the same nems just come back after a couple days. I can't add peppermint shrimp without my cleaners going into attack mode. Speaking of cleaner shrimp, I added the one I kept in my 3g pico over Christmas. Big difference in the color! The original cleaner is a deep yellow, and the one kept in the pico is very pale. They've had the same diet, so it'll be interesting to see if the new one colors up after a molt or two. New itty bitty sixline is doing well too, just staying out of everyone's way and picking at everything. Lots of pics ahead. Didn't get anything done except for a water change and wiping the glass, but long, lazy weekends are too good to pass up. Front FTS Side FTS Back
  8. My favorite tank is the 180; I keep kicking myself for selling mine. Tons of room for aquascaping AND enough length for tangs and other large fish to race. You could probably paint the back of the tank if you wanted to put it in front of windows. Would help keep algae growth down.
  9. I made a cover for my return pump out of gutter guard. Just zip tie a couple pieces like you're making a cup, it should fit snugly around the intake and not let any fish near enough to get sucked in. Could you do something like this for the intake on your skimmer? Bad pic but this is the jist of it:
  10. 3 could be a hawkins echinata? maybe?
  11. Dave's right. As beautiful as it is that he's so friendly with you, he could always make a mistake, and it wouldn't be his fault. I feel like predators are much more wary of the difference but they're like puppies, they don't know how hard they bite, or how to always distinguish your hand from a shrimp piece. My dog face puffer always liked to itch himself on my fingers, though I tried to not let him do it when there was any food. Just make sure you're careful and don't blame the little guy for an accident. And how about some pics?
  12. WOW! Those are incredible! Are those cups in the first pics pvc ends?
  13. I agree with this. However, I'd like to add my pet peeve of the difference between quarantining a fish and actively treating a fish for disease. I keep a "QT" but I actually use it for quarantine. It's just a separate reef tank that is always running. Live rock, macro, cuc, dirty glass, the works. I'll hold a new fish in there for 2-4 weeks, and if nothing arises during that time and I feel that it's ready, it gets to join the rest of the fish in my display. I think a lot of people get hospital tank and quarantine tank confused for the same thing. Quarantine should be used to separate a fish, keep an eye on them and let them recover from whatever trauma they've experienced, as well as starting their Stockholm syndrome and getting them used to you as the bringer of food. This also allows the fish to display their natural behaviors and keep busy during the day. A calm tank with a lot of hiding places, in a quiet, out of the way location will go a long way in starting to build that immunity that Paul is talking about. If you're treating your fish with medications, prophylactically or otherwise, this would be more of a hospital tank. This is the bare, pvc, and nothing else tank where you can use medications, hyposalinity and other treatments. It's like the difference between staying in a hospital or staying in a nice hotel. Where would you rather be for a few weeks?
  14. Long winded update ahead. Work pico has been broken down. I moved desks and due to some construction right above my old desk, the fish died on moving day. Going to bring my 8g Evolve to work, and my "retired" blue devil female. She'll love all the attention. As far as 30g news, my McCosker's also died. He was eating and active until he was gone, but just kept getting skinnier and not competing for food. I was trying to feed 2-3x a day, and everyone else would overeat, but he would take only a few bites and be done. I'm replacing him with a sixline and not getting another flasher until I (and the tank) can keep up with feeding them 2x a day. The biggest downside to this is the flasher wrasse REALLY got along with everyone, and kept the chalk bass more active and out in the open. I'm not sure if a sixline will have the same effect. McCosker's definitely cared more about being social than picking around the rocks. Now all the inhabitants are obese and the nitrates have spiked since I skipped last weeks water change (and have been overfeeding 2-3 times a day). Did a water change this weekend, and I'm planning on deep cleaning everything over the long Christmas and New Years weekends. Plans include giving the pumps, powerheads, and skimmer a vinegar bath, changing media, and vacuuming all the debris out of the overflow and calmer areas of the sump. Maybe doing a 10g water change also, since I want to redo my mangrove/fuge area in order to get my damsel out. Oh and I moved the blennies' loveshack, so they've since separated again. He's in the old location (I moved it back, with no luck) but she's in her old cave with all the zoas. Sigh. Here's some pictures from a couple weeks ago, I'll probably take more pics next weekend after the deep clean.
  15. I got a lot accomplished over the weekend. The skimmer is back on and the JBJ ATO is set up. I still have my Avast ATO sitting because I can't get my Aquacontroller software to work, but at least I'm not trying to keep up with top off manually anymore. Tons of cleaning and water changes on not just the display but QTs as well. My return pump tried to die on me again but I whacked it a few times to get it running after the water change. Cleaned all the glass, moved some frags around, and everybody got a treat of live black worms. In other news, these two are finally a couple: Bonus desk pico shot:
  16. Yes! The wrasse tries to buddy up to everyone. Though the female clown and coral beauty don't care for him, and the only thing the tang seems to care about is his algae clip and the cleaner gobies. But the chalk bass love him, especially the smaller one. He's also starting to flare up instead of just run and hide when he's confronted, so he seems to be getting much more comfortable. Such a gorgeous fish. A couple SPS are starting to get grumpy, still have new growth on everything, but some are not as colorful as they were. Tri color, undata, mystic monti and red monti cap are all doing different things. However the first green monti I added, the hawkins echinata frags and birdsnest are all doing better than ever. I have to order new test kits so I'll see exactly what my levels are here soon. Pretty sure it's the nutrients from the increased bioload. Need to give the skimmer a vinegar bath this weekend and get it running again, as well as change my RODI filters. The to-do list just keeps going...
  17. +1 on everything above. Only things I can think of to add is a webcam or wireless camera, to check on the tank when away from home. As well as a spare return pump, ready to go if something happens maybe?
  18. Thanks! He doesn't do much damage to it surprisingly, foxface in my old tank never touched it so I assumed it was safe. He rips it up enough to let it go flying around the tank then looses interest. Spoiling him with Nori though, the fat little toad. Thanks!! Tons of poor quality pics ahead. I'm thinking maybe I should've invested in a nice camera during the Black Friday sales...Pardon the algae, I'll clean up before pics next time. Too much excitement this go around. I just love this tank. Yellow tang is already gaining color back, the pics make him look almost normal. In person, you can tell his skin is still missing in a large strip across his sides/lateral line and face, and he still has white patches on his face, but I'm surprised at how much he's improved. I also got some goodies over the big sales weekend from Epleeds and Incredible Coras! I think I need to stop buying for awhile. I'm definitely done with fish!!! I set up a frag section in my sump and somehow managed to fit one of my Acan leds down there. Going to add a basket for anemones and take a stab at propagating the monster in the display. No pics of that crazy mess lol. Snagged a clip "macro lens" for my phone off amazon for $7. Lol It's only okay for things up against the glass, but it's kinda neat to play with. Someone enjoyed checking it out! If you hadn't guessed from above, I also added my new wrasse from QT. I just love this tank.
  19. Too cute! And RBTAs can stretch pretty far, it'll find a spot it likes, whether you like it or not is another story...
  20. Try taping a picture of clowns hosting an rbta to your tank where the nem is. I've had luck doing this in the past and it's worked fairly quickly. Everything's looking great!
