  1. I set up skype to automatically answer calls from my contacts and it starts up the webcam on my desktop which I moved to the tank. Pretty nice to have; I can check on the tank whenever, as well as watch them without them seeing me, since they all beg for food when I'm in the room. So I call my computer from my phone while at work today. Aaaand my tang is eating the red macro, which he wont touch when I'm home. I was wondering why it kept getting ripped up and thrown around the tank.... This is why I can't have nice things!
  2. Added a new addition a couple weeks ago. He has some crazy HLLE scarring (and was ridiculously thin when I first put him in QT), but hopefully it'll start to heal soon and once he outgrows this tank you won't know the difference. Poor chalk bass went nuts when he first went in though, glad I have a screentop. They're all out now and he's doing great. I'm running out of space! and my rbta just keeps on growing.... As pretty as my new frag rack is, I can't keep everything on it indefinitely lol. I have new zoa frags in QT that I have no space for on the big rock, unless I move some of the larger colonies (not happening). Otherwise they'll just be overrun by the ones that are already there. I'm torn between keeping my all zoas on the big rock in the back, and sps in the front or mixing things up. How do most SPS fair with zoas next to them? PICS!!!
  3. Let's not get into an ich debate on his build thread, he even made a whole other thread for that Your fish are looking pretty happy in the pics but what I really want to know is why are your clowns so freakin' yellow?! My spotcinctus have been black since I got them! They're too cute.
  4. I need someone to hurry up and guess 4 and 7. They're all gorgeous.
  5. I figured. Didn't mean to insinuate his is 'shopped out of proportion, just poking fun. Also, your photo looks a bit cooler than his. Even just slightly adjusting the temperature it looked closer, but I went overboard with the lipstick/blush tools on picmonkey for the above effect.
  6. Took some new photos over the weekend. Check out all the new points on my birdsnest! Hydnophora's so fluffy. Bubble coral is still grumpy from when I added the MP10 and moved some rocks, but it's getting better. FTS
  7. I'm guessing he just adjusts the photo with higher contrast/saturation.
  8. Second what epleeds said. Tank's looking awesome!
  9. My two cents: feed them well. I would recommend LRS frozen food, but any good quality food will do. Just keep your water quality up and keep them fat, happy, and stress free. Especially your tang. Cleaner shrimp/fish won't help with the parasite, aside from maybe a little itch relief. Ich will breed itself out in 9 months to a year if you don't add anything. And I mean frags, CUC, etc. Otherwise set up a quarantine for all that now, but know that it wont do your new QT'd fish much good if you're introducing them to your fish who already carry the parasite, even if it's not shown. Also know that there are different strains, so its still beneficial to QT new additions, even if you don't treat your fish. At least you won't be putting your current residents in additional danger. You would have to treat with hypo or copper if you pull them. Both are stressful, Copper's more stressful on them, Hypo's more stressful on you (constantly keeping water at hyposalinity levels, watching ammonia levels daily, etc). Hypo also takes a few weeks to treat, but you'd still have to let your display run fishless for 3 months. Then there's also bringing their salinity back up very slowly to normal levels. But it is much less stress on them if you do go this route, IMO.
  10. Woo! How bout an updated pic before you tear it down?
  11. Nice! I love my AquaC, it does a nice job. Can the skimmer fit hanging off the side of the sump?
  12. Looks so skinny too :( What's the point of this? Is it a defect or? Can he actually swim well enough like that?
  13. I just love that area, we went to Xel Ha in Playa del Carmen last year. Cant wait to go back. Thanks for sharing!
  14. This RBTA is outta control! I made a very sad frag rack. This might be one of the saddest things I've ever done. I either need to finish my in-sump frag section or buy a nice magnetic frag rack. At least this will keep them from getting knocked over constantly until I figure it out. Hydnophora got knocked over (presumably by the clown, since it's too close to her majesty's rbta), and landed on an acan... everybody was unhappy and jellyish for a day, but there was no permanent damage surprisingly. Did a 4g water change this weekend, replaced all my media/filterfloss, got my skimmer running again (injector was clogged)... I'm really loving this tank, and I think it shows. My bubble coral is angry since I put a rock between it and the BTA and added a second MP10. On the plus side, I have noticeable SPS growth (big achievement) and my Nerites are laying eggs everywhere. Bonus sump pics! No, stand is not done. Yes, the sump is longer the stand. These are issues for another day.
  15. Forgot to add, someone over on the nanoreefs forum found it was a snake polyp, not a worm, but a coral. I love my tank. Though I'm having to add small rocks to keep the RBTA from stinging anything and everything (including my new sps frags from Bruce), which is taking away from the overall scape, but tanks evolve.... and I'm thinking I need a frag rack for more space! Anyway, here's more pics: And some nicer pics of my screen top. not the prettiest, but it does a great job.
  16. or even eggcrate if it's not visible, so you still get airflow. The wrasse will forage but if you have enough rockwork and a fuge they shouldn't decimate the population. I would definitely wait a little while to let your pods get a headstart in the tank.
  17. Looks like an awesome list to me. I don't see any issues. IMO, (and someone may tell you differently) you could probably afford a couple more fish on your list, or do a pair of mandarins (definitely depending on fuge), or trio of wrasse (females are hard to find). Edit: Running off David's comments I would add the mandarin and anthias last, once your tank is stable and other inhabitants situated. I don't foresee any aggression issues with that list, but i have no experience with sunburst anthias. I've had Huchtii's and Bartletts on opposite sides of the personality scale.
  18. We've all done stupid things, and I'm sure there's a lot of us who have gotten in trouble with our spouses over reef related purchases. Welcome to the addiction!
  19. I'm in the pure coincidence boat. I think you might want to think of your cucumber as a victim instead of the cause, unless you can test for these toxins. My cucumber has done the action described every so often and I've never seen any ill effects of the cucumber releasing anything. I will say that it wandered most often in a smaller tank with less food and high nitrate issues (8g for a year, don't do this), but it's also done it in other tanks as well. If your cuke is doing this, I would test everything, but otherwise let it do it's thing (unless you find that it's life is in danger ofc). Mine goes where-ever. Rocks, glass... used to wind up in the overflow in the previous owner's tank a lot. I've had it for 4+ years, no idea how long it'd been before that. I've also handled mine quite a bit. Maybe it's used to the "abuse" but it's been through uncountable tank moves and stressful situations. You just have to be slow and careful when moving them or you can damage their feet. Just my 2 cents so no one panics and decides to toss their cucumber. People tend to blame the cucumbers for these incidents, but it's unlikely it was the cucumber that caused it. http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2003/1/inverts is a very good article if anyone would like more information. Sorry for your loss. He looked like a healthy little dude.
  20. There's plastic gutter guard as well, you can definitely use. I bought a roll at Ace and it's lasted me years through tons of different contraptions. Mesh netting, gutter guard, egg crate, and zip-ties, you can do anything.
