  1. your missing the points tom i have to recoupe for the cost of running my metal halides haha
  2. man had that same thing happen to my favorite clown a long while back....sorry to hear. hopefully your remembered to get your kids...my condolences on the fish
  3. is that a lightnign maroon i spy as well as 2 other clowns? hopefully they dont fight holy fish list batman...
  4. Big fan of salifert test kits, especially the pink tips for the syringe.... i have the hannah tester to but if you break it down to the cost per test ill talk the salifert all day long....though the digital read out is nice....once you have the tank stable with dosing etc...the salifert gets easier as you know within a few ml where the tank should be. salifert $15-$20 100-200 test...so lets say 140 to be on the safe side. so approxiamately 10-15 cents per test. hannah new reagent - $10 25 tests so $.40 ....40 CENTS per test???.... plus the cost of the checker....50 bucks man why didnt i do this comparison before i bought one??? or is my math wrong? anyways....just do the test at consistent times of day for a week. write down results and what ever additions you do, that will give you the consumption and daily needs, as you get it dialed in you can test less and less, then once a week or month you will notice that as teh corals grow demand goes up so you adjust slightly.
  5. What test kit you using. also alk your should test at the same time of day several days in a row....will give you a better idea for consumption i used to test religiously but now its been about 3 months a swing of 1 isnt great but isnt bad....i find the higher you keep your alk the more affected corals are by a swing.....i shoot for 8.5-9 on mine well i used to and will in the near future Genereally shoot for alkalinity and the rest do what they do. i try for 8.5-9dkh...found problems with going higher (mainly with zoa's) i always shoot for around 78-79 temp CA is usually 380-420 MG i keep a little higher around 1400 1.026/35ppt and my ph is usually 8-8.3 depending on the time of day
  6. you could also just put a piece of 1/2 or 3/4 ply on top and add ALOT of stability (basicaly skin the top) and drill holes as necessary for plumbing.....would also help distribute the weight on the legs agree with the 2x6 or 8s but i think you would be fine loosing 1 or so legs for the sump though im still a little confused at how the legs tie into the base
  7. man i just had a clown shunned, i love onyx clowns and of course the onyx has become the shunned fish...to the point he was almost killed by the picasso i got from Fazio....fins are mostly gone and will have to let her recoup in the sump i guess then eventually get rid of since i dont have 3 systems anymore.....not sure what caused the bell to ring and start the fight but man....first time this has happened to me, had a trio for a very long time.
  8. Good on you my friend, tank looks great, really cool place to put it as well.
  9. other thing you cuold use is a pressure switch much like the avast skimmate locker and or ato....one hole and done...could glue it in there or use some zip ties.
  10. very nice man...sump looks much better in use....congrats and welcome back
  11. Crap I coulda brought mine out to manassas if I had seen this...I have a 100 if you want in falls church
  12. Also look at the collumbulid (spelling?) Which looks like a well but is a good snail to have.. Still suprised it got in there and even more that it broke
  13. If a snail can break them that's rediculous....at least an mp40 or tunze will shoot the snail out Sorry to hear and glad I've waited
  14. Just not as fast...thick or filly cores (shaded areas don't do as well as with metal halide)... but agree you can get the same colors more or less
  15. for a 5g bucket...maxijet 1200 is about the largest you want to go i use on in my 55g bin...works fine...little slow when pumping 5 feet up and 10 feet away but works just fine for the price. buy the colbalt not the marineland ones...do much better with back pressure and are in general better pumps.
  16. where is all your corraline? if only mine was non existent
  17. Man i hadnt even thought of a sea hare.....may have to give one a shot.......front glass has been clear for several days now, and the water looks so pristine im suprising myself..... thanks for the suggestion. no progress on the frag tank yet, family stuff keeps getting in the way...well thats my excuse. going to try get the last pieces of wood cut so i can start assembling/painting at night and not wake up everyone. put my second D120 on the 40 breeder (pretty much shut down my daughters tank) and cause an algea bloom with the extra light i think....not to mention the skimmer hadnt been emptied in a while.... so i plan to take down the 30g tonight or tomorrow and hopefully that will help motivate more and more work....we shall see.
  18. Looks like a bad/advanced internal bacterial infection http://www.chucksaddiction.com/disease.html
  19. I'll take 2 io please pickup in tysons
  20. Daughter got me that one....so far reef safe...will have to rehome when it gets bigger. ...will call rob or justin
  21. Well here is the shameful status of what it has become....figured I may as well show it at some point
  22. im still gonna go majano but ya never know.....i had never had them always thought they were brown like aiptasia....got two on a frag a long time ago, let them chill for a few weeks till i realized what they were/big enough to id....tweezers and gone.... would be cool if ti was a fungia....though....did yuo introduce the rock from another tank or anything like that.... find someone wiht a point and shoot camera or bring the rock up near the surface
  23. Stop making me want LPS....nice pieces and pics...
  24. hair algea and briopsis are from no water change in SEVERAL months....auto feeder dumping a TON of food in the tank twice at least, had the mj1200 feeder to the biopellets stop....this pump is also the feeder to the CS1 skimmer....so basically was skimming nothing for a while...and tavelling too much to notice (at least thats what i tell myself) lights are probably 2+ years old (maybe even 3) so im sure thats not helping, im just going to get things in order before i change them out cause im cheap like that. New tank will replace my double frag tank set up (40breeder and 30 cube) since the stand they are on i initially built for a 120g with the same foot print (just made the stand about 6in bigger on all sides 54x30) ....after i sold the tank and had the stand i was going to try and find this tank but the prices scared me into the 40 breeder and daughters cube i already had........but found this at a price i couldnt resist...... ive been running all 3 tanks indepently and do not have time to do taht anymore.....so will combine into a single sump etc (also had one of my small skimmers die) and or may just tie it into the main once everything is how i want it and i have all the corals i want thru qt etc...or just shut the connection off when i need to type of deal... so now wil have the 156 main, and this tank which is about 80gallons (48x24x17).....i think it will look alot nicer and gives me a chance to really clean things up i hope...
