  1. Man I get no stapler....only scotch tape....and not even the super clear kind...only frosted. Ac is back working...lost one more frag otherwise looking better
  2. Wasn't a heater...ambient temp etc....I was sweating pretty good ...it's a small closet and it was hotter in there.....window ac unit in....repairman coming. Have a controller just don't have an extra temp probe cause you can't really find the old aciii pro ones easily
  3. Well just had my first issue with my nano qt tank...... I guess 7g heats up a bit faster than 100 Came in this morning to a not so great smell I've smelled before. Yesterday my a/c decided to stop working and it got hoooot in my office....didn't even think about the little tank....guess it got too hot cause had a mini die off.....lost a couple corals I was hoping to keep but so far only 2 frags...hoping that is all. I keep a top on the tank cause its in a small closet for humidity control...guess I'll have to watch it a little closer now....or get a temp probe in there. Oh well lesson learned....check small tank before big tank haha
  4. Waaaaaaaiiiit I got aefw from a clam. Qt it for at least 3-5 weeks with no acros...I'm case there is an adult thay lays eggs.....5-7 days to reach maturity so at least 14 days. Never woulda believed ... had a few clams in past....was in lfs system with acros. Nothing else had been added to the old tank for a long while ...2 weeks later noticed the beginning of the end of my plethora of sps......still mad at that clam...and the lfs but what can ya do
  5. Sorry couldn't resist the joke I could see them being more useful since you have it set up on a manifold off the return ..... But if your doing water changes by hand and can easily clean out that section of your sump...key is to actually do it.....you may save some headache from cleaning the socks. I'm planning a manifold and will try em out to see how good I can be at cleaning them and if it gets annoying out they go and I'll syphon the sump when I remember
  6. It worked but still had to syphon every so often ....basically corners would get build up vs a blanket Put the maxijet to better use on a frag tank If it was more powerful like a wp25 or something I bet it woulda been pretty good How is your skimmer fed is a very impotent question here. If by a manifold off the return it likely would NOT see much of the detritus.....or off a biopellet reactor like mine was. If open Intake from that sump chamber may do alot better
  7. Never have...just vaccum out the sump every so often...tried the powerheads in the first chamber that turned on randomly and found it didn't do too much for me. Been thinking of trying then out with the new tank but haven't taken the time yet
  8. I know they were in the process of moving a while back and had broken down a few pieces of the system......hopefully they didn't go outta the area I'll see if I can get on touch...also would love to see the tank in its current state
  9. Salifert are my favorite test kits and cost per test ends up alot lower than the Hanna checkers... With Hannah checkers you also have to remember to clean correctly or the curvette gets a build up and reads wrong...there was a good article about that a few years ago
  10. How old.....I started replacing mine every year or 2 after one did the same thing (mine was a crapier manufacturer)...... Rob suggested changing them out every so often and I follow that advice now Controllers help but they can fail too Sorry to hear man aND sorry about the fish they always hurt the most ..hopefully the smell goes away quickly...took me almost a week. May be a good time to start over...rocks will need another mini cycle most likely with all that dead stuff
  11. Not alot of sleeping spots there IMO Length is important to tangs...especially when they get big
  12. Looks great man...love the sand.......making me want more zoas
  13. Nice looking tank....I'd probably throw one on each side pointing down at opposite corners to get s swirl and agitate the bottom or do it on one side of the tank...top bottom front and back side type of thing I leave mine on wave all day and night.....unless it's a lagoon pretty sure the reef has flow 24 hrs....again up you... Move it around every couple days till the fish stay out just right or you think you hide the power heads enough....whatever floats your boat
  14. Depends on the rockwork...try to have as few dead spots as you can Either get a big circle going....have one on the side one on back shooting forward etc... Play around with it
  15. Get a second test.....I've had tests expire and really mess me up.....Hannah alk reagent as well.....thinking things were fine and seeing the tank suffer...bought new test kit and a diff brand....they lined up with each other showing alk amd ca were very off (low thankfully) If not just ask tom....that should be it's own forum....."ask Origami"
  16. For the log week one dips complete no losses and so far so good...there are only 2 small frags that seem to have any aefw on them....a rainbow milli and my shortcake...others had nothing come off in the dips. Several adult worms no giant egg sacks found but I'm sure there are some somewhere So there are all the corals I'm dipping....running carbon once they go back in the 7 gal. Once the dips are done I'll probably put a pair of clowns in there and have it be a dedicated qt set up...actually a nice tank and I could see having fun with a nano now Also gotta say this is much easier to dip and keep track of vs the 156 and giant colonies Couldn't believe the red Robin stag showed 0 aefw....hopefully that trend continues for the mini colony
  17. Ive got a blueface and a large purple tang together.....first few days were some jostling for superiority. .....now they are getting along much better. This is in my 80g...4x2 With bigger fish in think it's best to introduce them at the same time so there is less fighting over "my space" I also have 2 islands and each have chose a spot in the opposite island for sleeping. In my 156 in had purple blue and a melanosplesis angel.....purple was king...melanosplesis was 2nd but always first for food and it got Fat...started with 2 but had a jumper after a year or so. Rock work helps keep the peace for sleeping spots.... My blue tang had an sps colony he called home and did not like it touched by anyone including a mandarin
  18. Nothing annecdotal....had jaebo wp40, wp25, and dosing pump...out of 6 pump 1 was working at year 2....then took em off line...wp25 was the best there.....dosing pump...fair for the price but not exact Vortech. ..have 5 dating back to 2008 or 09...mp40w non es.....had magnet bulging replaced a few times otherwise flawless ....2 probably could use a bearING as they are noisier but work fine....most bought used and couldn't be happier I'm just thinking of trying something new while I have a good backup as prices are more reasonable now. Unfortunately internal is the only option for me...quiet is a plus...heat not an issue....just means less use if a heater Vortec..too expensive Jaebo...for the price may just try it but Reef octo...was leaning this way till seth said the controller issue which I'll have to research now
  19. Rob I completely get ya....I still have one working mag 9 which should work fine for me even with a manifold....I was hoping the dc pumps had come a little further since I last looked. The reef octopus Rodc pumps look pretty nice...good warranty etc...from coralvue Also saw the jaebo dct6000 for 78 bucks on amazon...prime even......tempting but for 30 bucks more for a new mag9....and peace of mind it's gonna be hard to switch Appreciate all the suggestions....as always feel free to add more or chime in on previous suggestions
  20. Can you elaborate? Return pump is something you need 24/7 reliability. .....mag, ehiem, etc have a track record of years with little to no issues DC yes less power etc....but I have no need to adjust my return flow....I want it constant... I'd like to try one but don't want to worry when I travel Also looking at the reef octopus Rodc pumps...good warranty
  21. Yep...originally from SteveM tank my inlaws bought. Lemme know when they are big enough to frag....you pic is much better haha
  22. I used to run 2 radium 250s and 4 t5s 3 blue+ amd , coral+. Radium color really depends on you ballast but I think is one of the best bulbs out there.....I already miss the color and I don't really have any corals in the tank If you didn't snag that light I was giving it serious thought
