  1. It's Quality Marine who owns the West Coast Live Aquaria distribution point. I actually spoke with a Live Aquaria rep on the phone when I was having issues getting a healthy H Magnifica anemone from them, she confirmed this information.
  2. What pump do you recommend? I see this one on BRS DREW'S DOSER PERISTALTIC DOSING PUMP. It looks like I can hook it up to my AC3, yes I am still using my AC3!! Thanks for the advise. I think I will hook up the peristalic pump to pull water from the sump and push it into the reactor and drain out of my drip pipe.
  3. Tom, what do you think would be the best way to retrofit a peristalic pump into my calcium reactor? If you look at my attached picture, the blue circled blue pipe shows the ouput drip pipe into my sump and the red circled black pipe is the input from my sump via a Maxijet. Woud the best solution be to run the peristalic in place of the Maxijet, pushing water into the reactor through the red circled black feed pipe currently running my Maxijet and returning to the sump via the blue circled blue pipe? Or should I have peristalic pump pull from the reactor via the red circled black pipe and return to the sump via the peristalic pump. This scenaro would turn the blue circled blue pipe into the feed pipe from the sump .
  4. I meant Quality Marine, not Sustainable Aquatics and yes LA was purchased by United Pet Group who owns Petco, Aqueon Drs Foster and Smith.
  5. Live Aquaria uses two facilities, but in reality only one of these facilities is actually run by Live Aquaria. The Rhinelander Wisconsin facility is the Live Aquaria Diver's Den shop. They own and run it. The Los Angeles facility is actually a distributor known as Sustainable Aquatics, all livestock coming from Live Aquaria's west coast facility is shipped directly from SA.
  6. There is a lot of organic material in Pukani rock. Sponges are a main component that gets into the voids that Pukani is known for. I bleached, I ran acid. I cured mine in a large vat with fresh chlorinated water. I blasted the rock with a hose to remove as much of the sponge as I could mechanically. After weeks of soaking, cleaning and blasting, I then used lanthunum chloride to remove the remaining phosphate from the rock. You want to take your time curing this rock. It is a great substrate. If you do not cure it correctly, you will be growing algae, instead of corals.
  7. Have you thought about using a algae scrubber on the sump? Not a chaeto based scrubber, just one where you run the light on your sump and let whatever algae grows proliferate. I have my light over a piece of Starboard in my sump. I use Starboard, instead of running the light directly on the sump substrate. When the algae gets overwhelming, I remove the Starboard, scrape the algae off and return it to the sump. The sump runs an opposite light cycle and has a more powerful light (Gen3 Radion XR30w vs Gen4 Radion XR15w). The goal is to have your sump out compete the display tank for nutrients, get the dinos to grow in the sump, instead of the display. You will be amazed at the assortment of awful algae and other slime that will grow on an unattended piece of plastic with a light over it.
  8. I have about 3 inches of small sized gravel that I brought back from Tunnels Beach (Makua) on Kauai.
  9. The Powder Blue will move to the top of the heap. Acanthruas Tangs are much more boisterous than Zebrasoma Tangs, once he gets a little size on him, he will crush the opposition. He will eventually be the most aggresive fish in your tank.

  11. mesenterial filaments are part of the coral's defense mechanism.
  12. The spaghetti looking threads are mesenterial filaments These filaments can kill or devour other coral polyps through a process similar to digestion.
  13. Any fish that is not coming from the DFS/LA Rhinelander Wisconsin facility is directly shipped from Quality Marine in Los Angeles. DFS/LA does not have a facility in Los Angeles, so anything coming from their California location is actually a Quality Marine fish. Who is Quality Marine? I believe they are one of the largest fish wholesalers/distributors in the U.S.
  14. Tom, I recommend Tripp-Lite Isobar Ultra surge protectors, they are the best on the market. I have everything running through them. They are more expensive than most surge protectors but are the best around in my opinion.
  15. I never drip acclimate my fish, they get exposed to differences in salinity in natural conditions, I just toss them in!! I haven't lost one yet. I am now on the watch for the Tang Police...
  16. Does anyone know where I can purchase some line loc piping locally? Thanks.
  17. Look into Reeflo Orcas, I can personally vouch for their performance.
  18. I have a very strange issue, all of my Vortechs will go into "white LED" mode, which I believe is "sync". In this mode they pump at half speed with no change in speed. This happens across different types of Vortechs. It happens at random, with no warning. Old MP40s with the small white box, ES MP60s, QD MP60s. The only Vortech that is not affected is the MP20, which does not use wireless. I have a ticket in with Ecotech, but so far their tech support has no answers. I am sure this has to do with RF interference of some sort. I have solved the issue on the MP60, by removing the wireless card from the unit, but the older MP40s with the old rectangular box, have an onboard wireless chip. I have looked at the driver board and see a chip labeled "ANT1". I think this is the wireless antenna. I think if I clip the leads coming into an out of this chip, I could disable the wireless feature, which I don't use at all. Has anyone ever encountered this issue, or have any suggestions on how to fix this? I posted this to the RC Ecotech forum too. Thanks!!
  19. Pender Vet Clinic won't give it to me without an physical examination. Whatever.
  20. Anyone know where to get Bactrum DS or SeptraDS (sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim), locally? I need to treat a Ritteri anemone I have just received. Thanks
  21. I was wondering if anyone has been to Roozen's lately. I know it is a bit disorganized , but sometimes it is worth the trip. Is it still running?
  22. I bought Alk from BRS about three weeks ago and it was a good lot, not affected by the recall.
