Hatchling (3/13)

  1. I got lucky and Epleeds was able to step in today and help get everything out of the tank and rehomed for me. Big thanks to him. Great guy.
  2. Hey all - I’m in need of breaking down and getting rid of my reef tank. I’m looking to find someone who is able to come over, bag up everything (fish, anemones, coral, urchin, snails) and take it all. I’m not even looking to make any money off of it, just want it all to go to a good home. Any advice - you think a reef store like Supreme Reefs would be able to do this and help me rehome the lot? Thanks everyone
  3. Best way to describe it - everything else seems fine but the calcium carbonate base of the coral is slowly disappearing. Alk around 9 calcium around 450 and mag around 1300. Any ideas?
  4. I've had an elegance coral in my tank for about a month or so now and it's doing "ok". Half of it seems happy the other half is open but slightly retracted. I try and shade it and put in a lower flow spot. It's quite large so it's tough placement wise.
  5. Yeah. I've noticed with a small rockwork change Midas has been a little less of a bully. When I add new fish I'll do this again.
  6. I'll be that a shot. He's just a total ass 24/7. We shall see, thanks for the advice.
  7. Did some decent reading on the indigo and heard they're pretty tame. He's larger than the Midas but he's a wuss and clownfish gonna clownfish. He just runs into my torch coral is the Midas gets @$%#&y.
  8. So I'm stuck on what to do. I currently have a single clown, indigo dottyback, and the Midas Blenny. Lately the Midas has been ruling the tank and has, I believe, been the cause of a firefish to jump to its death (tank covered - just found a hole) and a wrasse to die of ultra bullying. Midas still harasses the other two fish any time they cross the midway point of the tank. It's a 40 breeder for reference. Thoughts or opinions are greatly wanted. I was considering moving his home via a rescape to see if that helps. I don't want to get rid of him but I also don't want my tank to end up with only three (one happy) fish. Thanks all.
  9. Next time. Had to visit family out of town.
  10. Thanks everyone. Nice happy fish family going strong
  11. Woke up this morning to a perky clownfish. He did pull through. Last night he found a cave to sit in. I expected to pull him out of there today, and good news he's already eaten this morning. Lesson learned. Drip every time.
  12. Thanks, that's my only thought is the change was too much for him. I'll drip next time.
  13. Background- SR60 (40 breeder with 20 sump). Have had a Midas Blenny in the tank for a month. Been doing great, have a few coral, also all doing well. Today I added a small clown and a firefish around 1pm. Firefish immediately his but have seen him a few times and he's been eating. Clown went immediately to the bottom and didn't move too much. He didn't make it. Parameters are as follows: Salinity -1.024-025 Ammonia/nitrite 0 Nitrate - 5 Mag -1400, calcium 470, alk 9 - all tested Wednesday other than ammonia which i just now tested to see if something strange occurred. My only thinking is either bad luck with the fish or I messed up the acclimation. Salinity between the store water and mine was minuscule and it's a well regarded LFS so after a float I popped him in. He wasn't happy from the start. Also added a few new cleaning crew members (snails and a conch) but don't think they'd have an impact) I do weekly 10-15% and use Red Sea coral pro salt. I'm at a loss. Thanks for any hints or ideas.
  14. Yeah, I get it that it happens and it's inevitable to have some In a tank but when the aiptasia to frag ratio is 60/40 I do get nervous. Checking out another local store tomorrow with my son that's only open on weekends that I've heard terrific things about.
  15. Checked out one of my local stores today in anticipation of some coral purchases in the future and noticed aiptasia literally everywhere. My first thought was, no corals from this place, but is that unfair? Just wanted some seasoned reefers' opinions.
