  1. It was cool, that is for sure. I am definitely going with a 36" wide tank though. After reviewing the MarineLand tanks again - it will either be the 250g or 300g No reason to go custom since they have these production ones. I guess I answered my own post - thanks to Steve for reminding me about the Marineland tanks
  2. Thanks Steve - I forgot to add that in my first post. I plan on looking at these MarineLand deep dimension tanks too.
  3. Well it looks like we might upgrade one last time. lol We are going to get the basement finished soon and the wife wants to get a bigger tank and put it in the basement. I'm on the fence about it, but might be into it depending on the size and stuff. We'll probably go with something like a 180g-240g, since I don't want anything in the 300g range just due to monthly costs, let alone initial investment. I'm also thinking about a 6ft x 3ft x ? custom made, but not sure how much they run. What do the customs normally run for something like that? I'm definitely open to suggestions at this point since I really am on the fence about putting one down there and going through all the work, unless it is a really nice setup.
  4. My buddy have gone through 4 of them and finally quit. A couple met the Vortecs which was no good. They seem to be a little more sensitive to shipping than some others.
  5. Looks like I'll be taking the Harley as long as the weather says it will pretty nice - still coldish in the morning and night though
  6. Its not a Fosters's and Smith issue - its a manufacturer one. Thats cool they said they would take care of it. Definitely a postive for trying to clean up manufacturer issues themselves.
  7. Yeah, but if he doesn't let them heal after he chops them up, they take forever to grow. Check out Austinaquaticfarms.com He has some SWEET acans and GREAT prices. Colonies for the price of frags. Shipping is mute when you figure in how much better and healthier coral your getting for the money. Todd and Brett have some sweet stuff too at Cherrycorals, just a little more spendy - I'm working a trade right now
  8. Nice looking acan!
  9. Anyone else going to MACNA on Friday? My buddy up in NY talked me into going. I am paying for the ticket now. I am cruising up ~5am and then heading home sometime that afternoon/night depending on the scene. Just thought I would start a thread to see who else is going to make it up there.
  10. Thanks Dan that helps.
  11. Looks great! I can't wait to finish mine now.
  12. Blue Lagoon Antiparasitic Gel Marine Food
  13. Nice Darren! So when are you going to be up here again so I can get a frag
  14. I run Phoenix's and love them - if I had an old one I would have thrown that in the box instead so you could at least see what they look like. The 13ab's are way too yellow for me. They made my walls even look funny! The 14's are more of a crisp white. You have to add actinics for the bluish if you want it. At least to my eyes
  15. Those are the names of the meds in this dry food I use
  16. How old is it? I would treat it with the food that has the gelatin stuff in it that expands in water then put it in some food mash. It gets rid of worms and stuff. If you need the name I can check my container. I feed it to all my new fish in QT. Sometimes I throw it in their mix after I add some snails or something, just in case - but I doubt I need to.
  17. That sucks! I guess I could have checked to see if it even worked before I brought it down, then I probably would have posted for help I use a thin blade screwdriver and stick it in the far side and push towards the light while lifting it up, then do the other side a little, and go back and forth. I guess I should try the dialectric grease thing on my fixture so it won't cease up like that. I just changed a couple bulbs yesterday though :/
  18. Looking good Bob! Now I see what I saw throught the window - the top right of the 240 I recognize the light
  19. lolololol - that sucks. I stick to tried and true - for me its been NYaquatics - 0 dead fish, great prices.
  20. How do you get it to stay on for a longer period of time without raising the ORP? Are you saying that a 50mg/hr unit will kill stuff, but raise the ORP slowly. What is the pressurization of the reactor going to do then? It seems that if it is too effective, then it won't stay on long enough. I'm still trying to figure this out. I guess I'll hit up some white pages online and read a little more about this.
  21. Saltwater is the ultimate "healer" - including for us. I don't take anything out of my tank until it is FULLY gone. Even if I cut the head off like I suggested, I would still leave it in the tank to see if it came around. I have had stuff wither away to barely a pencil tip spot, then come back around. Saltwater never ceases to amaze me.
  22. +1 Looking good Hunter! Whats up with no sand bed?!?!? j/k I guess a bunch of Zoa/Paly will make a nice base when it is grown in.
  23. Dan or someone with some knowledge base with Ozone on here - I just added Ozone via my skimmer venturi intake without an air dryer. The reason for this is that it is a 300mg/hr unit, and there is no way I can use all that it produces - actually I am having a hard time using it at all since my ORP stays up in the 400's already. I can see how a 50mg unit would benefit from an air dryer and pressurized reactor, but am a little lost on why I would need all that if you just skipped the efficiency and went with a bigger unit. I'm assuming, there is a saturation point where you can't kill anymore freeborne's in the water and the ORP will be too high to run the ozone anyway. My thought process is to run the ozone more often, with less efficiency and you will get more time of it disinfecting the water, without raising the ORP too fast so it will shutdown the reactor or ozoneator. I haven't read anything about ozone really. (I have, but not enough to speak on it) So take my thoughts more from just me throwing some thoughts together with the 3 brain cells I have left I'm just trying to figure out this whole ozone thing and where it stands in the application to my tank with the setup I have. I just added it last night, so I am definitely still learning. But it seems like the practical part came out the same as my thought process - ie. - the ozone generator is only on for ~10 min before it reaches 425. I'm sure the more it is run it will run even less. So I'm trying to figure out why I would even add an air dryer. Unless of course it makes the "disinfecting" part of the ozone equation more efficient and kills more stuff, while raising the ORP the same amount. Then I can see where I would want to make it more efficient at that.
  24. If it was me, I would cut the one head off. It most likely won't make it and will leave a dead skeleton anyway.
  25. I'd try it on the one side or the other and see how you like it. I would imagine that you will be fine since the flow and suction is pretty good on them and it will end up bouncing off the side and front glass. Flow doesn't have to be direct or asymmetrical You'll be fine with it like that I would say.
