  1. I am looking at using this, http://koolance.com/pump-pmp-300-g-1-4-bsp but have a few questions out with the company that sells them. Has anyone looked into using this kind of pump? Anyone know of a pump that will output to 1/4" tubing? (besides a peristaltic or aqualifter) I am looking to upgrade my aqualifter to something that can handle more than 18" of head and will work with 1/4" airline so that I can use to feed my kalk stirrer. None of the powerheads I have seem to be able to catch primer with such a tiny outlet, or even have 1/4" outlets, so they effectively do nothing. So I went out and got an aqualifter. It works, but is barely able to keep up with my evaporation as it only pumps about 1 - 2 drips per second. The peristaltic pump I have works, but as an ATO I find the neoprene gets crushed very fast and since the price of the replacement tubing has gone from $10 to $30+ I do not want to keep replacing it.
  2. I have an SWC Extreme Mini-S (rated for 200g) that has a PSK-2500 and I can say that it reliably does not come back on after power is reapplied. However the shorter the power outage, the more likely it is to come back. The problem I think is the ceramic shaft it about 2mm too short which allows the magnet to move out of the way, rather than turn. Poking my finger down into the intake to push the impeller back makes it start turning. I can also hear it rattling like a coffee can full of nuts for the first few seconds as it starts up, after that though, it's quiet. I would look into replacing it, but aside from that irritation, the skimmer is awesome.
  3. Very cool stuff. I hope they do enough testing to take this to the baby's room. I see this as a potential butt cream replacement. I really dislike that stuff. Just don't get it on the new diaper... that would be an awful mess. :(
  4. It's a really, really old sekret. Like god, sex, secret, ace, 123, and abc. Get it? When I joined I had been tainted by an LFS as to how this place was essentially a dirtball's paradise and he hated everyone here. I can say that none of it was true. But having heard such horrible things from him, I picked a name that would maintain my anonymity while I checked it out. I should change it, but I am lazy, and you all would be like, "Who's the new guy w/ 1000 posts?!!"
  5. What you are describing sounds familiar. I had a similar issue before I installed a Chloramin stage filter on my RO unit. Essentially Chloramines, if not filtered out, will destroy your membrane over time. Do you have a chloramine filter ("Activated Carbon")? It kinda looks like a DI canister, but is filled w/ carbon. Should be placed after the sediment filters, but before the RO filter (you don't want sediment to clog it up). I have no idea how long it lasts. I've been using mine for about 2 years now.
  6. Please PM me with which moving company you used so that I NEVER, EVER call them. Breaking stuff is one thing. But only offering $50 as a replacement is ludicrous. I would seriously consider having a consultation with a lawyer to examine the validity of their contract, that clause and any other recourse of action available. That aquarium costs thousands of dollars. $50 to replace it is just insulting. I would be ZOMGWTFBBQ mad. The last time I broke a pair of jeans, I'm pretty sure I broke more than the jeans did.
  7. They'll get the big guys too. Just give them time to form a plan of attack. The big guys require team work.
  8. Derecho: Derecho comes from the Spanish word in adjective form for "straight" (or "direct"), in contrast with a tornado which is a "twisted" wind. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derecho Media hype? What? Who said that? Never!! </sarcasm> That's why I only read the NWS Alerts and look at the weather maps. I don't like to listen to the local meteorologists. They always say things like "this is a 'RED ALERT DAY'" and "stay tuned ALL DAY for coverage." It's all doom and destruction but don't change that channel! ugh...
  9. Change the water or you will suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune....
  10. I bet it tastes like Yellow Tang. You know, the "Chickens of the Sea"
  11. At least they aren't biting you. My fish (false percs) used to always go after the tinder bits, like the webbing between my fingers. ouchy! A sheet of nori won't keep your tang's distracted? If they are bored of it, stop putting it in the tank for a couple of days. They should be all over it when it returns.
  12. the Harlem Shake, clownfish style.
  13. I've had 2 Blue spotted jawfish. First one jumped and didn't tuck-n-roll, poor guy. Second one just disappeared, like what you are describing. That was a while ago. Since then, I have been having a lot of diatoms & nuisance algae of various sorts sprout up in the sand bed where it's burrow was. Now I figure it died in the sand and it's body is somewhere in it decomposing. If you know where it's burrow is / was, you might consider poking around there. It's too late for me to go poking around in there (will just release more toxins), but you might be able to pull any remains out. fwiw: Every single jawfish I have owned (Blue Spotted and Pearly) were exquisite jumpers. Even to the point of finding their way through egg-crate. A tight lid is a must for them. For my next one, I'm going to build a PVC cave out of 1/2" tubing & fittings. They seem to be super picky about where they make their homes and if you sand / substrate isn't just right, they will try to move.
  14. a "Locking Gas Spring" might be what you need. This is what you have on the tail gates of hatchbacks that keeps them from falling down on your head while you load/unload the car. Until they fail of course. They do make them boats as well, so it might be a good idea to get one meant for a marine environment. The trick will be finding the right one(s) for the amount of weight you have in your canopy. Too much spring and it will be hard to close. Too little spring and it won't hold the hood open.
  15. I've had HTC phones for years. They are great. I currently have the galaxy s3 and it's also a good phone. I like the HTC UI better than Samsung's though. For custom ROMS though, I think the Nexus is the phone to get.
  16. Probably ran out of garlic. Seriously though: Could have been too soon. Snails aren't the speediest of critters. However, it usually doesn't take long after death for critters to become the food on the food chain. Any bristle worms? Do you have nassarius snails? Nass. snails are carrion eaters more so than turbos or margs. They are also quicker to the buffet than the others, which may never show up. I've seen things get a little rowdy between the hermits & nassarius snails in the buffet line.
  17. FWIW: When I set PVC pipes and fittings I always push them in 90 deg. from where I want them and give them a 1/4 turn to the correct position as I push the pipe in the final 1/4" or so. I feel like it helps the pipe go into the fitting better, get a better seal, and I feel there is less push out. BTW. Are those stainless steel bulkheads? Nice. Also, I like your threaded end caps. Got any more pics of them? What's on top of them? Where can I get them?
  18. My exquisite wrasse ninja attacks the seaweed when the tangs aren't looking or right under their noses. 3 Tangs, picking on a piece of algae floating around, and then from right field comes in the wrasse, swooosh, and gobbles the whole thing up in one bite. It's no wonder my hippo likes to chase him around. I think it just wants the wrasse poop. The hippo is a poop eater. I have weird fish.
  19. Those are all your fish from your DT swimming in what I presume is the QT. The DT is missing. Along with a couple of less fortunate angels.
  20. I want my pompom xenia wall back. (the back wall of my 55 was covered in it) that thing was awesome to look at.
  21. It's probably right where you saw him last, just under the sand. When mine moved around, it would float around in the water, (think spinning ball of stinging death) not crawl around like the other anemones.
  22. iirc, LTAs only plant their feet in the sand, so unless it's foot is planted in the sand bed it's not an LTA. If it does though, that would explain why it disappears; it's retracted into the sand bed. My old 12" purple LTA would retract into the sand so far that you could only see a small tuft of tentles poking out about the size of a dime. Another distinct marking of an LTA is a white spekled bottom (underside when open) of the tentacle plate. I don't think any other anemone in the hobby shares that. i have to say though, it looks more like an GBTA to me that's lost it's B. <- spekled tentacle plate bottom of purple LTA
