  1. Personally I have never seen a skimmer cause a tank crash. However to easy your mind you can break it in by running it in a 5 gallon bucket of vinegar/water mix and then Then run it in a bucket of saltwater to wash the rest of it out.
  2. What’s your budget and tank size. I started with 8x80 T5, moved to 3 XR30 radions, then to the radions and a T5 hybrid fixture and now I’m using Orphek Icons with OR3 bars on the side. I personally love the Orphek the best. Pricey but works well and the optics put 95% of the light straight down
  3. Have you tried fluconazole? It worked wonders for me back in the day. Only thing that took care of the algae I was dealing with.
  4. I have a free 10 gallon tank if that would help and a box of various free stuff as well. Located in nokesville
  5. Are you sure it’s the avast? I have used them for years with no issue. Is the line not breaking the siphon once the pump shuts off? I have had that happen before.
  6. We need some pics.
  7. Are you talking about the drain line from the cube to the sump? Cause that can be under the water line to prevent splashing.
  8. Depending on your return pump, you could put a 90 degree elbow on it so that it draws water from a lower position and then you can lower the working level of your return chamber to accommodate the extra water volume from the 40 cube.
  9. Do you have a picture of your sump with the power off to see how much space you have left?
  10. I have added several frag tanks to my display over the years. I have had the ability to do so due to having a large sump that can handle the extra water volume. on my last tank I used a separate pump for the frag tank but on this new tank I’m trying to do it with one oversized return pump. We will see how that works once I source my new frag tank and get it plumbed up. Your biggest concern is the sump volume. See how much volume you have once you turn the pumps off and calculate it from there. If you’re only talking about a 20 gallon cube, they don’t drain much when the power goes down. I used the Fiji cube with external overflow box with my last set up. Worked great.
  11. It’s (2) Orphek icon and (4) Orphek OR3 bars.
  12. Yup. I hope to have it wet this weekend.
  13. You’re more than welcome to come by and look at the 5’ SCA150 I’m in the process of setting up. Opens up the choices of fish even more.
  14. Sweet. I just ordered a SCA 150. 60x24x24. Nice tank. Price point was good as well. About 1/3 the cost of a custom tank. Quality seems nice too.
  15. Is this a ground floor condo or an upper level. If upper level check to make sure the floor can support it. I had to brace the floor in my house for my 72x30x22 tank. on a side note, I have a 72x30 stand for sale cheap ?
  16. Are you able to move the smaller tank to another spot in the basement? It’s wouldn’t be very hard to drain it, move the tank over a few feet or so and then put everything back in. That would take maybe an hour. then you can plan on the spot for the new tank and take it slow. The bigger problem of going from a 50 gallon to a 100+ is where are you going to get the extra water. Do you have enough on-site to make the transfer easy. Or would you have to carry 5 gallon buckets of water. It’s not hard, I have done it several times. I even drained my 200 gallon tank to pull the entire sand bed and put everything back in about 6 hours later. It was a PIA but on a smaller tank it should be fairly easy.
  17. This is how I have mine running.
  18. You could always go for a rainbow chalice. Those are always nice and you have a lot of space in the sand bed. or a nice meat coral. Just hope the coral beauty doesn’t get a taste ?
  19. Northern va ain’t that bad ?? what are you going with this time? 6 footer? I got a bunch of misc stuff. Reach out. I got ya.
  20. I just bought an SCA with eurobrace. They told me the 1/8” mat that comes with the tank I can use.
  21. That sucks man. What happened? I had to break my 300 down a few months ago due to a sump leak.
  22. I have some older chillers. They are about the size of a dorm fridge. But they are cheap. In nokesville.
  23. I’m good with water now. Thank you for everyone.
  24. My 10 year old tank spring a leak yesterday. It’s been a nightmare. I am trying to save as much as I can but I need 250 gallons of RODI water and don’t have that much on hand. I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me out with as much water as you can and bring it to my house. I have a 280 gallon tub set up in the garage that I am going to run until I can sell everything since the tank is going to need to come down. My address is 11613 Kettle Run Road, Nokesville VA 20181 If you can spare some time to bring me as much water as you can, please let me know. ** one thing to note, I am just getting over Covid. I am feeling better but I want to minimize contact. The tub is set up in the garage so all I would need is for you to dump the water into the tub. *** if anyone can help, please let me know.
