  1. The coral farms down there have been proliferating and that is good but there are reports of some people robbing the reefs.
  2. Yes like AquaClear. Tried 3 brands --all broke in one month. The impeller won't turn. When I disassembled them I did not see any precipitation. They always break after they were off. Some power issue but then why is all my other equipment ok?
  3. In the last 4 months I've bought 4 HOB filters new and every single one has broke in a month. I never had this problem before. I've disassembled them all and put them back to together. Am I doing something wrong? Anyone else had this problem?
  4. I did not know that.
  5. Is sudden salinity change a definite cause of STN? I'm still trying to figure out what caused this. I blasted the salt off the corals immediately so I don't think the undissolved salt itself was the cause. Tank doing much better. Cutting out infected but still half-alive corals helped a lot as did iodine dips.

  7. A month ago I did a water change and the salt was not fully mixed. Pieces of slat fell all over the corals. Should have let make up water sit overnight. I blasted the salt off the corals but the damage was done. I come back from Asia (ironically after visiting the Coral Triangle, see pics in scuba forum) and the STN has spread across my LPS. I noticed some STN before I left. My trumpets I've had for 9 years have died back 75%. Blastos and Rose Chalice look bad. Strangely, some LPS like alien eye chalice are fine. What is the solution here? I'm thinking cut out dead corals, dip iodine and big water change. Help.
  8. I keep stirring up the sand and it keeps coming back in a 4 or 5 inch area on the sand and no where else in the tank. Why would it do that? Nutrients in the sand in that one spot? What to do?
  9. WOW! I have an emerald that has grown quite big in the last few months and then a couple weeks ago I find my thriving birdsnest broken off and dead.
  10. Consider whether it is a 20 long or not
  11. Ditto. Take out a gallon and add a gallon of water you brought from home.
  12. Had 4 pieces of Alien Eye Chalices, the light brown with green spots. Two large pieces are fine but two small pieces right next to the large ones just rotted away to white bone over the course of about 2 weeks. They were fine for most of the last year. The only change was some small amount of cyano growing right next to the chalice but not on it. Can cyano poison corals? Anyone seen this?
  13. Heard marine biologists say that the majority of beneficial bacteria resides in the sand and rock but not the water. I've done 60% water changes and no nitrate spike occurred. Sand is a filter. I suppose you could compensate with other filtration methods. Detritus laden sand beds, when stirred up, can become a huge problem. 3 inches is plenty. I have 2 and no nitrate problems.
  14. I had absolutely no idea how involved it was to ship corals and fish from Indonesia to the US, especially page 3 https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/hand-picking-corals-in-indonesia.336492/
  15. Makes sense that some would survive in the overflow. The ones in the main display may have been food.
  16. Successfully shipping live corals and fish in winter or the heat of summer can't be a simple thing. I am not going to condemn Live Aquaria assuming this was there mistake.
  17. My mom always told me eating fish makes you smarter. My clown is diabolically intelligent. I call him jaws. That evil little sob bites the hand that feeds him! He won't bite when I am looking right at him. He waits patiently until I have my head turned before he comes in for the attack (seriously).
  18. People good with acropora have all told me that parms (light, cal, mag, ph, temp ...) can all be sub-optimal but a lack of stability will kill or make sick your corals. A big question is does climate change cause swings in Ph and temperature on coral reefs?

  20. Looks nice, very good. It appears there aren't enough hiding spaces for fish. Add some smaller rocks, closely spaced in an effort to create more hiding places for fish.
