  1. 50% water change will bring alk down fast but understand the bigger the water change the more precisely the salinity and temp must match. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
  2. Key question: Is the sale of the fish, coral, invert, etc sustainable through breeding or harvesting? Taking live stock from the ocean that is not so plentiful for the purpose of breeding is reasonable. Based on the ICUN red list status the Fijian Orange Spot Filefish it doesn't sound like it can be sustainably harvested. Diver's Den should leave this fish alone. https://www.iucnredlist.org/species/70010721/115476659 sus·tain·a·bil·i·ty /səˌstānəˈbilədē/ noun the ability to be maintained at a certain rate or level. "the sustainability of economic growth" avoidance of the depletion of natural resources in order to maintain an ecological balance. "the pursuit of global environmental sustainability"
  3. When I was in Raja Ampat last March I heard the same criticism about the aquarium trade from divers. I explained that there were numerous coral farms right there in Indonesia. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
  4. Search youtube for "indonesian coral farms". How many indoor coral farms are there in the US? I would ignore ten year old reports. Sustainable tanks are possible.
  5. I searched on TDS rain water and it usually measures over 30 TDS -not pure enough for a marine tank. https://www.iwapublishing.com/news/rainwater-why-it-safe
  6. I have an AI Prime LEDs with 180 PAR near the top of the rocks. My zoas grow but slowly. Back when I had MHs they grew like 3x as fast. I've heard other's say zoas grew fast under MHs. Why?
  7. I tried the rubble pile and my big clump of cheato had much more pods than the "hotel". The rubble became a detritus trap too Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
  8. It's my understanding that aragonite does dissolve VERY slowly but what you describe is way too fast Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
  9. If you have any scrambled egg zoas left and I can pick up early next week.

Also, I'd like to get an utter chaos frag and Rainbows if you still have any.

I work near Springfield. Are you around at 5pm Monday to Wednesday?

  10. I'd guess 'yes' even though the shape was quite different. I'd like to get my hands on a single Duncan, put it in my tank and this time get photos of 'alien blob' disease Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
  11. Did you have similar parameters?
  12. Bayer for new corals. I have searched the internet for pictures of what I had and I can't find any. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
  13. SG 1.025 Dkh 7 Cal 360 pH 8.3 Phosphate Nitrate > 5.0 Mag 1120 Yeah I know Cal and mag are low but I never saw that cause an alien blob to devour my corals overnight [emoji16] Let me emphasize the clear blob was well-rounded had a bit of a cone and it was slightly larger than the coral head itself. 14. It's far away but Pacific East aquaculture is excellent and has good prices. They are at most of the meetings and can sell you what you need then. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
  15. Were any of your other corals affected?
  16. Had a healthy 30 head duncan growing in size fairly fast for the last 6 months or so. One day, I notice a couple dead heads then I notice more. I saw a hermit picking at a duncan head. I used a magnifying glass to look closer and the hermit was definitely picking at the duncan itself and not some algae next to it. After that it died pretty fast. A clear round jelly like substance would form over a healthy duncan head and it would dissolve overnight. The next day there was not one bit of duncan flesh left -like something out of an alien-monster movie. I tried gently washing the sticky jelly substance off and dipping in iodine solution but it did not help. I've seen pics of brown-jelly but this was clear in color. The whole cluster took a week or so and it was gone. Just trying to do a post-mortem here. What the #$%! was that stuff?
  17. Let mine do what it wants and its been fine for years.
  18. Over the course of 2 years a thin barely visible layer of slime built up in my fresh water reservoir. Took me time to figure out why trates were rising. I ran my finger across the inside of the water bin and I could feel the layer of slime. As this slime grew so did the TDS of the water in the bin reaching 256 TDS. The high trates killed corals. I cleaned the bin out and problem gone.
  19. My duncans and trumpets need to be fed. The trumpets only grow when they're fed. I have 0.5 mm pellets and I have Reef roids. The clowns pick at those pellets but not the reef roids but are the reef roids enough? I'm reluctant to get rid of the clowns because I've had them for 8 years. I will try suggestions. Thanks Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
  20. My two clowns steal over half the food I drop on my corals and after the corals have swallowed they bite the corals until they spit out their food and the clowns grab it. I've had a couple corals that mysteriously died--they looked like they had been chewed on. Can they kill corals? They bite my hand but only when I'm not looking at them. They seem to know the most tender part of my hand to bite. I've tried plastic cups over the coral during feeding but its hard to fit it on without hitting the coral. Is there a better way to feed corals in the presence of killer clowns? If you doubt the aggressiveness of cute little Nemo then please see this vid (use sound): CLOWNS BITE
  21. I used peroxide and it killed zoas. Instead match cuc to algae Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
  22. I have three patches of GSP. Two patches are always out and open the third is perennially closed. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
  23. Step 3 Try vodka dosing. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
  24. Probably goes without saying but don't forget to get lids for the 5G buckets. With the lids the buckets will hold the temperature pretty steady.
  25. I noticed a slightly greasy residue in HD orange 5G buckets. Rinse them with hot water
