  1. That is a heck of a set up that you did. I'm extremely impressed. Where did you get your lights from?
  2. Even an HOB filter is good to keep around to keep the tank's polish now and then.
  3. That's good to know that your tank is doing fine. Hopefully mine will too. I pulled up the log on my ACIII and saw that the temp started to drop around 4 AM with it being lowest around 6 AM at 70.1. If I was home yesterday, I could have done something about it. But, that's just how it goes. Time to order couple more heaters.
  4. My father in law came over on Sat morning and put in 2 20 amp circuit breaker and mounted 2 dual GFI outlets for me. We also had company all day that day, I didn't get around to moving the DC8 over to the new outlet. Around 6:30 AM on Sunday, the power tripped again where the DC8 was connected to. My cell phone was down stairs so I didn't find out about it until around 10:30 when we came down stairs and were ready to head out. The tank's temp reading was around 71. Since we'll be out all day, I decided to move the DC8 over to the other side of the fish tank so it's closer to the new outlets and plugged everything back in. All of my wires were labeled so it was easy to know which wire plugs into where on the DC8. I verified that the heater was running again and the temp probe was in the tank. Everything looked good so we head out. Every hour, I received an alert showing me the tank's status because of the temp still lower than where it was supposed to be. 6 hours later, the tank's temp has gone up to only around 74. Still much lower than where it should be. When we came home around 10 PM, first thing I did was see if the heater was on and it was but it was barely producing any heat. I calibrated the temp probe to make sure it was working properly and it was. So it seemed that my heater somehow crapped out and no longer functioned like it should. I pulled out the 250W jager heater that I had in my fresh water reservoir for my discus. Washed it with the RO/DI water, then insert it into my sump. I programmed the ACIII to have that jager heater run as a second heater and prayed. This morning, I saw that the temp is back to 80.4. I don't know to what the extent the long cold might have damage the corals or harm any of the fish. I can only wait and see and hope for the best. 2 lessons learned. 1) have my cell phone next to me at night and not down stairs where I can't hear it in case of an alert from ACIII. 2) I need to have two heaters in the sump in case if one fails.
  5. If you need to borrow a par meter to test your light output, I have one that you can borrow.
  6. Most of those infomercials are quite hillarious. I used to love waking up early on Sunday just so I could watch them. We even bought a few things over the years, some are really useful and some were just down right useless. One of the items we love and still use regularly is the Ronco rotisserie machine. Their knives set that you could buy separately but came with our rotisserie order, the only time we use it is when we go camping and don't want to risk damaging our regular and much sharper knives.
  7. That would be great if we can get some saving out of it.
  8. I've been using regular towels too to clean up water mess. There have been times when I can use something that can hold a bit more than just regular towels. tempting....
  9. Nahhhh, even someone with two left hands like me can do it (YBeNormal can vouch for that) . all you do is drill a little hole into your water storage container that's large enough for you to attached the float valve to and tighten it up with a little plastic nut. Attached to the float valve is the RO water output tube. Once the water fills up and lift up the float valve, it shuts the water from overflowing your water container. As for your laundry room, you don't need a sink, you have a place where the water from your washing machine drains into. That's where you will stick the waste water tube into. Piece of cake.
  10. No engineering degree is required. It looks like they also include faucet mount for you to hook it up to your washing machine cold water faucet or outside, and a mount to mount to your bathroom or kitchen sink. I highly recommend that you buy an inline tds meter as well so you will know when it's time to change your filter. It comes with an autotop off but no float valve so you will need to get that as well.
  11. When I bought my TruVu acrylic tank from TruVu, I also bought a scratch remover kit. The instruction on it said that it is to be used on the outside of the tank only and not on the inside as the chemical is poisonous to fish. If I'm not mistaken, from what I'm hearing from the folks here that it's easy to remove scratches from the inside of the tank. Does that mean that it's safe for me to use the scratch remover kit on the inside of my tank as well as long as it is empty or do you guys have a particular kit that is non toxic?
  12. It sucks seeing your fish died like that. Don't blame it on your rimless tank though. My mated pair of clownfish did that too. One on one day and the second one followed suit the next day.
  13. You mean I have to crack open the book again?
  14. I got a second pH probe and I want to use it in conjunction with the first. I know that I can hook it up to the ORP section. How do I rename the ORP to pH2 from the controller? Is the calibration process still the same?
  15. If you are concern with the plumbing of the RO unit, don't be. I bought 2 attachments for mine, one for me to use on the outside faucet and one to use on the bathroom sink faucet where i currently have my 30 gal reservoir and the RO/DI unit.
  16. Stunning photos.
  17. I usually take fish that outgrow my tank or too ugly for my wife to look at and give it to Centreville aquarium store. They in turn give me 10% off of my livestock purchase. It's not much, but it's better than me killing the fish just because I don't want it anymore.
  18. It takes time to get rid of that smell. I have a 55 gal drum and a 35 gal drum that was used at Pepsi plant to store their Dr Pepper syrup. Even after I washed it with bleach and vinegar, that smell still there. Finally after several months, the smell went away. Just make sure you clean the drum thoroughly before you start using it to store your water.
  19. Is tubeworm bad to have?
  20. The bright side to this is that it will give me an even more of an excuse to why I should get a larger tank upgrade. Then I can move over what I want and leave what I don't want. James
  21. Just great! Talk about a real pisser banana. Thanks Bob.
  22. Is that OK for me to leave alone or shall I try to remove the plate and kill it?
  23. That's what I'm inclined to think as well. It seems to have occurred ever since I turned on the dehumidifier.
  24. Please take a look at the attached and see if you know what are those white things that are sticking out from underneath my monti plate. I took a look under the monti plate and it looks like it's attached between the monti plate and the frag plate. I don't have a clue what it is and if it's something that I need to remove. Right now, it just look ugly. My monti plate
