  1. WAIT!!!! Did I read that right? You're a discus man too? WOO HOO!!!! The chloramine in the water killed 4 of my discus last year and I didn't even know it until the water authority guy came out and tested my water. I'm left with 3 discus. I would like to get 3 more for my discus tank, but I can't at the moment.
  2. Matt, If you don't mind, I would like to make a trip out to your place on one of these weekends so I can see how you have yours to get some ideas on what works and what doesn't.
  3. I thought about having the overflow on the outside when I talked to Jeff at the last meeting and not realizing that someone else had already thought of it and did it. I read that you were only going to have your overflow 1" deep, is that correct? Is there a particular reason for that?
  4. Dan was the one who introduced me to calfo's design. I like your idea of having the overflow on the outside so you don't lose any valuable real estate on the inside of the main tank. That's the one main issue I have of the calfo's internal overflow box. Thanks, dude. That would be awesome. What's the dimension of your new tank? I originally wanted mine to be 5'X30"X30" but I'm reconsidering the height of the tank and perhaps reducing it down to 24". I like the height but the more I think about it, it's going to be hard for someone my size to reach down toward the bottom of the tank without me falling in.
  5. Jeff, If I'm not mistaken, yauger probably think the same way I did. He based it on the calfo's design of the overflow box with slots.
  6. Looks like I most likely go with Jeff's custom built and most likely I will copy your design placement for my tank as well.
  7. James, I have one of those calfo overflow box exactly like How Yauger showed it except that his extends the length of the tank and it's on the outside vs the inside of the tank. Dan made it for me when I first got into the hobby. Most likely Yauger will have egg crate over the the over flow box and there will be bars where the water flows into the overflow to keep fish from getting in there.
  8. James, how much is a sulfur denitrator? This is the first I've heard of it.
  9. Google sketchup???? I need to look into that. Thanks dude. James
  10. Dang dude, and here I was thinking of using graphing paper and pencil to draw out my new tank's design. I was thinking that if I go with Naga's custom built, I would put a coast to coast outside the tank as well.
  11. I agree. I only have a dinky butt size 30 gal tank with a 20 gal sump, but I also invest in an ACIII. The first time your tank crashed because of power failure, pH level drop, heater malfunction or any combination of them, you will wish that you have the ACIII to warn you. The ACIII is an investment for me and it's worth every dime. Just my opinion.
  12. Most if not all Vietnamese fishermen in Vietnam believe that dolphins are almost godlike creatures, perhaps titan is a better name for them. In any case, the fishermen often offer prayers to the dolphins to protect them before they head out to seas. I remember hearing from my grandfather stories of dolphins rescuing fishermen after their boat get knocked over from rough seas and such. So reading the story above, it does not surprise me one bit.
  13. I came by Bruce's place the other night. He was kind enough to break off a piece of the pocipora (sp?) to replace the one of mine that got badly bleached. Anyway, Bruce showed me his new set up and I have to say, seeing it in person was even more impressive. The photos just don't do it justice. Great job Bruce and thanks again for that frag. It's doing very nicely in my tank.
  14. I'm still shopping around, but the price Naga quoted me for a 5'X30"X30 custom built acrylic tank is really good. With it, you can drill it anywhere. I want a tank where I can have the bottom drilled as well so that one day, I can use the tank as a room divider and have a view of the tank from 3 out 4 sides.
  15. It saved my tank when my 2 year old dumped an entire container of fish food into the tank.
  16. We love you, dude. Why else do we ask for you and get a Bronx cheer in return.
  17. I'm in Manassas and he's still too far as it is.
  18. Most normal LFS in VA do open 7 days a week. BRK is the exception because Johnny is not normal. Sorry Johnny, I just couldn't resist.
  19. I need to buy one of those advertised shamwow towel. The regular towel just aren't enough to contain the drools that are coming out of my mouth each time I look at that monti. WOW.
  20. Sorry Steve, I've used IO from day one so I can't say I have any knowledge of the issues that you're having.
  21. My wife banned me from BRK because I spent too much money there. The only time I get to spend money at BRK now is: A. I tell the wife that I have to go to the office (and it's the weekend) B. I tell the wife that I'm in desperate need of supplies C. I go through YBeNormal. How'd you think I got away with the ACIII without me having to sleep in the garage or in the fish tank.
  22. Oh man, that really sucks. Sorry to hear that. Here I am feeling bad that couple of my corals got bleached and died. But my pain is no where close to yours. If you enjoy the hobby, then I wouldn't let this tragedy keep you from rebuilding your stock. Think of it as an excuse to do set up something totally different from how you had it before. Most if not all of your collections should be easily replaced. Just a thought.
  23. Chris, I know you must be using a digital SLR. What brand and model is it?
  24. There's no need for me to have it on because the other lights will over power it anyway. With a controller, it's just as easy to program it to turn on and off at a specific time.
  25. Mine is set to turn on as soon as the arctinic light turned off at midnight and turned off at 10 AM.
