Two tanks, One room

I give you:

57 Gallon Deep Blue Professional Edge series. Just picked it up, I tend to ramble on, so I'll just show for now instead of tell.

-24 inch Hamilton Belize sun series 250 W halide light with dual T5's and moonlight leds, and a 250w lumatek ballast.

-E shops 20 gallon sump

-A coral life 165 protein skimmer (just need to find out wth I did with the cap!)

-300 watt marine land heater

-mag return pump

-hydror koralia circulator

-marine land maxi jet 900 powerhead used in fuge

My first upgrade will be an Avast CS1 w/ the Sicce PSK2500

I'm tossed and torn on using the LED's I'm selling. I think this is probably the way to go, although i really like the crisp look of the halide and T5's.

I'd like to do a finer sand bed than crushed coral, but nothing huge, 1/2 -1". Or does anybody think that will be a pain down the road?

I've got some rock being shipped to me via boat. I'd say about 5 weeks on it, give me time to get organized and prepared. It will also give me some time to figure out heads and tails on my new Typhoon III RO/DI! I plan on sticking this project out, for those of you who follow, sorry for bringing you down so many dead ends!

Here is the second tank in the room, my Biocube 14. This thread will not be a build thread for it, but helps explain the name:

Original rockwork

New rockwork to fit all my corals in off the racks after the meet. I don't like it as much, but there is more in there:

Neat. I envy folks who can leave buckets of stuff around when setting things up. My kids would be all over that and have it spread around in five minutes.

i personally would go bare bottom and use starboard like oldreefer did on his build.

Starboard? What is that?

Beautiful tank. Can't wait to see it progress.

Thanks! I can't wait to clean it up a bit and get some water in it!

Ah, I've got the miss who doesn't complain, but I know she will if it stays like that for much longer. Actually last night she told me to "hurry up and get it setup, I know your dying to get it done!" What she doesn't understand is there will ALWAYS be something I'm dying to get done!

do not use the PSK 2500's- many issues with startup and impeller failures.

use the PSK 1000.

Noted, thanks for the tip! This is my first drilled setup, so I'm still learning how to properly setup my sump/fuge, protien skimmer, RO/DI, everything. So far it's a lot more wires. Trying to keep everything clean.

Make it over to Oldreefer's house to grasp the concept, and examples of good practices .

Do you need assistance?

I wouldnt say know. If you're ever in the area, let me know. I'd like to get some thoughts on my RO/DI and some skimmer/sump questions.

it is just plastic sheets. looks better than egg crates. here is his build thread so you can see what it looks like. he lives in arlington so may be worth your time to swing by and take a look. http://wamas.org/for...ld/page__st__25

Thanks for the link, was looking for that. Looks very clean, but there is something natural about sand, ya' know?

You could always brush on some epoxy and glue sand to it. 8)

"Wouldn't say "no," pardon.

I'm in Ballston, so if you ever need some help, let me know!

I appreciate that! I may give you a shout some time soon, just working on getting my RO/DI setup tonight/tomorrow. Fingers crossed I'll be making water soon, I'd like to get this filled!

Mounted my light. Going to take it down and put the LED's up tomorrow, see how I like the looks between the two.

before you mount it up, maybe turn them on while holding them over the tank to see which way gives better coverage and less dead spots.

it seems like you really like the metal halides. if you dont have an issue with heat, cost of electricity and bulb replacement then maybe you should stay with the halides. hold on to both sets of lights until you test the halides out with water in the sump and tank running. you may also want to look at the lights with water in the display as well to see which one you like better. since this is a slow build, just take your time in the decisions.

Also, I want to start considering fish. I think I'd like to get a goby and pistol shrimp, based off MBVette's new post (http://www.liveaquar...cle.cfm?aid=201) also, I'd like to get an anemone for my clowns (I have a green bubble tip in mind.) What other fish can I keep in a 57! I'd like to get a list together before I dive in.

I'd use a bucket or box of instant ocean for the cycle, if not permanently. It's cheap, readily available, and you will most likely change all of it out anyway within a month after your cycle completes. Good luck!! Nothing will try your patience more than a cycle.
