Wrench November 12, 2014 Share November 12, 2014 Just a tease for now. I installed two of these on my 240g tank on Monday. WOW they're amazing! I'm thinking one may be enough. I will post some videos of them in action as soon as I get a chance.

Wrench November 12, 2014 Author Share November 12, 2014 That's the plan. Was going to try to alternate gyres using timers until the advanced controller comes out which hopefully will allow multiple pumps to sync. Have also thought about putting both on the back glass facing forward. Playing around with it this week to see how I like it.

six-line November 12, 2014 Share November 12, 2014 So jealous, I'd love to swing by sometime too. I really would like see them in action on a real tank. How have the corals responded?
YHSublime November 12, 2014 Share November 12, 2014 I hope the product works better than the graphic design on the box. Pretty jealous, I'm not far from this bandwagon.
Wrench November 13, 2014 Author Share November 13, 2014 First impressions after a couple of days: Overall excellent material quality. The fit and finish is great, no cheap plastic. Everything fits tight and has a nice feel in the hand. A+ The controller sits in a nice holder which you can secure to any smooth, hard surface. It's easily removed from the cradle and easily snaps back into place. Once again, great quality and fit and finish. The controller is made of a rubberized plastic (like many cell phone cases) and just feels like a quality piece. The buttons have a nice, firm feel and the control dial is easy to operate and isn't sloppy. The electrical connections between all of the components are very tight. Between the controller and the pump is a threaded connection sealed with a rubber o-ring. Very nice. It wasn't an issue on my system but I could see that on larger tanks, and depending on location of your components, that the cables may be too short which may limit where you can place your controller. The user interface is very easy to use and intuitive. Another A+ Pump mounting is great. The magnets aren't too strong like previous pumps but they are more than adequate to secure the pump to the tank. My glass is 1/2" thick and I'm sure this would work on at least 5/8" if not more. I like the design of the magnets because they don't require fiddling around to get them lined up. Functionally they're perfect and once again fit and finish is great. I can't find anything wrong, another A+ Now onto the pump's performance! These things move some water! My tank is 60x36" and I can't see the need to crank this pump past 60%. I've been running it on constant speed mode and it creates a nice, even gyre which covers the entire footprint of the tank which is very impressive. The only downside, and I can't say I didn't expect this, is that the area directly in front of and below the pump lacks a great deal of flow. This is where I see there may be a need for two pumps opposing one another. The pump is made of two "cages", one left and one right. They can be aimed independently of one another to direct the flow in different directions. I may be able to eliminate most of the dead zone by playing around with adjusting the cages. Overall water flow is very even. My pump is currently set up to create a counterclockwise gyre. There's a large hammer coral on the bottom left of the tank and the polyps are blowing strongly from left to right. I can clearly see that water on the bottom half of the tank is being pushed through the caves and crevices of the rockwork. I have been unable to identify and dead spots. It's still too early to make a judgement but so far I'd give it an A.

20LogR November 13, 2014 Share November 13, 2014 I'm excited to see what the controllers bring. I'll probably hold off until then. I feel the stock on those MP40/60s will be in free fall soon Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk
Wrench November 17, 2014 Author Share November 17, 2014 So after running this pump for almost a week now the only complaint I have is the noise. It's got a nice hum to it running at about 50%.
Bmax November 17, 2014 Share November 17, 2014 Congratulations! I got mine on Friday and it worked until Saturday night. Then he red light started flashing. I took it apart to make sure nothing was obstructing the motion and it hasn't worked since. I've been in touch with Carlos today and he's been extremely helpful. I have a 6 foot tank 180 and he was moving sand at the other side of the tank. When it was working it was incredible! Just wondering if anybody else may have had this issue? Wrench November 26, 2014 Author Share November 26, 2014 So over the weekend I was able to hook these up to my APEX and use it as a simple timer to oscillate the pumps. They alternate back and forth every hour. Very, very cool setup which should tide me over until the release of their advanced controller. The corals are responding well and there's no more detritus building up on the rocks anywhere. Now if I could only sell these darn Tunzes!

ridetheducati November 26, 2014 Share November 26, 2014 Over the last couple of weeks, the Internets have claimed the Gyre has accomplished the following: Cured parasites including Ich Reduced the need for a skimmer Eliminated cyano and dinos Increased fish and coral growth Cleaned sandbed Reduced phosphate and nitrate levels I got a few chuckles reading Gyre threads across various forums. Off topic, but did anyone see the thread on RC about raising tank temp in order to kill phosphates? Kill phosphates, where does this stuff come from? I thought about getting the gyre and my nitrates dropped to 0 and I got a raise at work. I think the only possible connection was my gyre thoughts! Aside from the claim of curing parasites I can see a connection to the other points. Improving flow can reduce nutrients, help with cyano, etc.
