Vadim September 14, 2011 September 14, 2011 People that use the RO/DI system, what do you guys do with the waste water?
YBeNormal September 14, 2011 September 14, 2011 In the summer it goes out to our pool. In the winter it goes down the drain. Some folks run it to their washing machine, but I'm not sure there is enough cost savings to make it worthwhile.
Guest thefishman65 September 14, 2011 September 14, 2011 Toilet refills - after all it is waste water
onux20 September 14, 2011 September 14, 2011 Unfortunately down the drain. However, I use an auto shutoff vavle in conjunction with a float switch to keep the waste to a minimum. ron
trockafella September 14, 2011 September 14, 2011 I like to keep a few 5 gallon bubkets full for watering plants in the warmer seasons, in the winter down the drain.
flowerseller September 14, 2011 September 14, 2011 I run it into my nasty neighbors basement. They still haven't figured out where that pesky leak is coming from. summer collect water plants just because winter, wasted
MLazar September 14, 2011 September 14, 2011 Jon collects the RODI in one large trash can and runs the waste water into a second can in our unfinished basement where our laundry area is also located. I pump this water into the washing machine at the start of my laundry cycle and if we have a lot water will also use it for the rinse cycle. You would be surprised at how much waste water is created, at least I was, AND how much water a washing machine uses. I think there are pictures of the set up on our 120 build thread. JM calls it "The Lazar-O-Matic" system. Maureen
DaveS September 14, 2011 September 14, 2011 (edited) into the creek in my back yard... Don't tell the county. Edited September 14, 2011 by DaveS
Origami September 14, 2011 September 14, 2011 Right now, it goes down the drain. Since I'm on well & septic, it pretty much goes back to where it started. However, I'm considering sending it up to some of the gardens around the house during the warmer months.
Swimboy123 September 14, 2011 September 14, 2011 (edited) Dave, didn't I ever tell you I work as the County Wastewater Mitigation Officer? @Vadim: I take it that you came home to a stack of buckets waiting for you? Edited September 14, 2011 by Swimboy123
Guest thefishman65 September 14, 2011 September 14, 2011 What is the problem with it going in the creek. Carbon is one of the early stages so all the chlorine should be gone.
Origami September 14, 2011 September 14, 2011 into the creek in my back yard... Don't tell the county. Dave, didn't I ever tell you I work as the County Wastewater Mitigation Officer? Looks like a payoff-for-silence is in order. Several frags in unmarked bags should do the trick.
Vadim September 14, 2011 Author September 14, 2011 Braden yes, thank you very much. i appreciate that. I imagine you got the envelope with a million dollars in it?
Swimboy123 September 14, 2011 September 14, 2011 Already in my swiss bank account right next to my frags from Dave!!!
Steve G September 14, 2011 September 14, 2011 I'm glad this thread came up. I've been meaning to tee off my RODI waste line (currently goes into the drain) to irrigate my garden. Keeping this tomatoes watered this summer was a PITA. Dave's creek should be fine as the water is pretty much tap water minus some sediment, and if it goes through carbon first, minus chlorine (and chloramine?). Heck, I might bubble the RODI "waste" into my koi pond -- continuous water change! I'll let you know if the fish suffer. Hmmm, now I just need about 500 feet of tubing... Steve
Guest thefishman65 September 14, 2011 September 14, 2011 That is what I figured, but it seemed like I was missing something. I guess it was the joke. s l o w 5 hours later he get's it
Origami September 14, 2011 September 14, 2011 On top of that, Dave may be on a well, not city water.... no chlorine.
Buckeye Field Supply December 2, 2011 December 2, 2011 Not to put too fine a point on this, but... If you want to run your waste water to some location distant from the system, and you install anything over about 20 feet of waste water tubing, realize that you are further retricting the waste water flow. Thei may or may not be a bad thing, depending upon your waste water to purified water ratio. Russ

rioreef December 2, 2011 December 2, 2011 During the winter it goes down the drain. In the warmer (growing months) I divert it to the sump which is already pushing out my AC condensate. This goes outside to water the grass and a tree.
