Winter storm

In case some of you aren't aware, capital weather gang and others are forecasting a potential historic snowfall this weekend. I just got supplies to tune up my generator, extra gas cans, etc. Tomorrow I'll be testing the generator, changing oil, etc. Better safe than sorry, I'm planning for a 3-4 day power outage as our neighborhood seems particularly susceptible to outages from snow/ice. Those of you with big tanks might want to test out your winter power outage plan. FYI, a cheap way to keep tanks warm during a prolonged power outage is styrofoam covers and sides.

Yeah i will be checking out the generator tomorrow. They are saying we can get up to 12" in my area. What scares me is i have to work night shift when it snows. I have to make sure the wife has everything written down as to what to do.

Was planning on firing up the snowblower and generator tomorrow too. Thanks for the reminder!

For those who use 12V auto batteries and inverters as backups, double check those are fully charged as well.

First the radio station said 10", then I called the weather which said 5", then my friend in Sterling said she heard 12". I predict 4 inches a lot of wind, a snow surface melt Sunday afternoon leaving a crusty crunchy surface to crunch across that cuts our ankles if we wear short socks.

Verizon's weather number, FYI, is 301-936-1212

I know what you mean. I've heard different numbers all day. I guess we should see 6 inches or more. I don't really believe anything they say anymore though. Only way to know is to see when it gets here. Of course in Nova all it takes is a half inch and everyone freaks out...

I love how they say... it depends on the track of the storm. But we wont know until sometime Sat. LMAO.

Seriously, best job there is has got to be a weatherman. You get paid for spewing random forecasts and are not accountable if you are wrong or you are right.

Just heard 12 to 18" down here in Orange. If we get this, everyone be careful. I know i will be out plowing tonight and it makes it really difficult when people who dont need to be out are out on the roads.

Good thing I worked extra hours this week... we can't take overtime hours so I can only work 3 hours Saturday if I do go, and I'm not about to drive from G-burg to Kensington & SS on bad roads when even in good weather non-rush hours takes at best 40 minutes. I don't mind using 3 hours of leave to avoid the mess!

Everyone should stay home Saturday and do water changes.

Make it go away until 12/24 @ 3:00p

I couldn't agree with you more... except I have to work the whole day being a contractor in order to get as many hours as possible, I'm already losing 8 for Christmas. So if it could hold off until say 6:00pm on 12/24, that would work quite nicely into my holiday images and plans.
