The wife and I have been through some rough times of late financially. On more than one occasion I have been considering leaving the hobby. On those nights when it hits me the hardest I start looking in my tanks for the reason I got in to this hobby.

This is Jake, he was named by my son Alexander. Jake is a Golden Moray eel and he's about 14" long. Alexander loves eels and this one is especially cool because he's on the rarer side.

Jake is one of the few reasons I find to stay in this hobby right now when I look in my tanks.

Hope you all like him as much as we do.

Thanks for looking,

Kevin

Now that is one cool looking eel. You just keep looking into that tank and getting lost in it. It's better than the movies. Enjoy!

I'm interested, do you have a tank for him alone, or is he in your reef? What size tank is he in? And was this the one Grav from Reef escape had for sale? Really cool looking eel!

Jake.....nice name. Good thing he not a biter. LOL  That's an inside joke. ;) Also I glad to hear you sticking with the hobby.

He's in my 75g, which eventually I will transition into a 120g. His tank mates are a misbar gold stripe maroon clown, picasso trigger, lunare wrasse, arc eye hawkfish, Jewel damsel and a 6" lawnmower blenny. Technically it is a fish only tank, but I do have some zoos, kenya tree and Neon sinulara in the tank. I was trying to keep a few mushrooms in the tank, but the red general star seems to think they are part of it's diet.

Yes this is the one Phil had posted about, thanks again Phil, I am the tentative home he mentioned as I was not sure if I was going to keep him at first. Once I got him home and watched him in the tank there was no way I could give him up, he's just an amazing animal to watch.

Yes the only thing I could think of when he told me the name was Jake "The Snake" Roberts from my younger wrestling enthusiast days. Back when it was still just as fake but a little more real looking than the soap operas of today.

Thanks Chris, it's been tough lately, but everyone has been supportive and keeps telling me to hang in there. Sean from Aquaco is right, if I were to get out, I would regret it too much and Mr. Coral has also been very supportive and offered to help if he can. The hardest part is the finances, several of the LFS have offered to help me get the equipment I need, but it is still a question of affording it. I just keep trying to hold on and hope that it all works itself out. This time of year just makes things a lot harder.

As for biting, I've had my hand in the tank withy him frequently, the only time I avoid that is when I'm feeding him. He likes prawn, etc and gets VERY active when I feed it to him.

very cool Kevin...i hope everything works out for you and your family...

He's a pretty cool looking eel - looks like Jackson Pollock got to him with some black paint.

I'm glad you are finding reasons to stick with the hobby. Your tanks will survive a little bit of a rough time, it's just a matter of what livestock goes into them in deciding how much of a priority a piece of equipment is.

Good luck to you.

That is one cool looking eel. There's no way in you know what that I could ever keep one of them. They look like snake and snakes scare the jeebees out of me.

Hey Kevin,

That eel is awesome. I understand why you are on the fence... it is expensive to stick with it. Your tanks look better everday and I am sure your son would be very upset if you had to tear down. LMK if I can do anything to help! You have donated your help to anyone on this forum without even thinking twice! Thank you for helping me.

That is a very cool specimen, Kevin.

I am also an eel fan. I have had a couple myself over the years in my fuge and have hand fed all of them. I am often tempted to get another, or two or three (I have a large fuge); we'll see.

How big does it get...?

About 2' from everything I've managed to find and read on him. So to me he is also the perfect aquarium eel, not too big, not too small, fun to watch and PRETTY!
