flowerseller May 19, 2008 Author Share May 19, 2008 Chip, for everyone's benefit, it would be interesting to see how much stuff you end up pulling out of your sand as far as detritus is concerned. 10 years with the same sand bed presents some interesting scenarios! This will be the second time in almost 20 years I have done almost this exact scenario. My intial sand bed is just about 20 years old now. As a matter of fact, I'm calling it 20 years old tonight, so to celebrate it, I'm going to pour myself a 21 yld Glenlivet single malt scotch. Actually, I did this when I moved the tank to McLean 10 years ago. We brought all the water and 80% of rinsed sand and added new to my desired depth. It's time to give the pH bank a fresh boost with some new arrangonite.

Chip - you really should't wait to celebrate something like that. Granted it wasn't 21yld, but I poured a nice 12yld one when my sandbed was 1 day old, and 2 days old, and 3 days old...... I'm going to need to come and see your tank just to get a taste of that stuff!!
