  1. The idea of ikea lamp converting to a retrofit lamp is very nice. Tagging along to see how to fit the HQI inside.
  2. for a 12g nano and 150W HQI is probably overkilled already. What do you think of trying to get the retrofit going without the reflector and grows SPS if that's your plan to get this HQI going? How long has your tank been up and running? If heading toward SPS in such a small environment, it's a difficult task to maintain a constant water parameter for it but nothing is impossible.
  3. Read all about it here, http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/loca...irdfish28m.html
  4. A person with more drive for ideas, contribution and conviction.
  5. The cool thing is it's real and even have a short video clip of the barreleye fish, http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/4797025/Fi...arent-head.html
  6. Hello Eric, A friend of mine also has a 12G nanocube in his son room started about 4-5 years ago. His son picked out a pair of true percular Nemo, a royal gramma, a pair of yellow coral banded shrimp, a rbta that splits into 3 (he later took out one to give to his mom, his son's grandma) and all survive currently. Water change weekly and careful feeding enough for fish to consume. It's possible and depends on your level of care experience. Cheers,
  7. Doug and Dave Lin: We appreciate your volunteer work. Also, Thank you Tom.
  8. 5 years coming back to this hobby after 15 years off, still learning weekly on this fascinating subject such as a news on today WAMAS front page, What Is Killing the Coral? DNA Array Sheds Light on Coral Disease http://www.coral.org/node/4066 Thanks WAMAS web design admin for a very nice homepage redone layout. Especially with these cool reef updated news.
  9. Thanks for a very helpful link Brian. NJ and NY are closed enuff for most of us when we take trips to NYC.
  10. The skimmer comes with the refugium package won't be able to support your full reef 210G system in the long run. Purchase components individually and go with the best skimmer that you can afford. You can skim out of a less expensive lighting system but always get the best oversize skimmer, in case, you guys decide to venture into sps later on.
  11. Completely clear 1/3 of the tank lenght without any live rock, etc..... Lure the bad fish over the clear side, put a divider in. Catch the bad guy. Learned this trick from a friend, work everytime and saved me lots of time with large tank and lots of LR. You can purchase a tank divider from LFS such as petsmart, etc... or cut a piece of acrylic to make a divider, then glue a rectangular base at the bottom, so when placing this divider in tank, it will stand by itself.
  12. Eventually, the biogenetic field is really new and moving fast. Some days, some one will be able to decode the secret gene(s) and processes just like anything. It can be done.
  13. Thank you Daniel. Off to reading. Fascinating and I think I am going to start setting a cw tank soon. Now, start with reading. Much of oregonreef.com repeats most of what you said above and fun reading. "General thoughts on running a cold system Running a cold system is really akin to running a fish only system.....in that a lot of waste needs to be handled
  14. very cool pixes and notation with each picture!
  15. Daniel, I now have a much better appreciation for a CW tank after seeing the strawberry anemone in person, and those beautiful starfishes at Downtown Aquarium. Much better than RBTA, etc... They looks like a scattering dendrophyllia in pink, one poly by one polyp. Is it possible that you start a thread where we can purchase easy to care for cw species beside the catalina goby? And other basic things for a newbie to be aware of that might differ from our regular warm water reef tanks. feeding strawberry anemone pattern, etc... Downtown Aquarium was feeding the large CW anemone with large size mysis shrimps. Thanks,
  16. http://www.wetwebmedia.com/arrowcrabfaqs.htm Try to search on this site. You'll get lots of fairly accurate info. from long time hobbyists or SME (subject matter expert). Cheers,
  17. Meant to post in general discussion forum. My apology to Mod.
  18. I came across this article written by Sanjay whom had been invited by our club as speaker several times in the past. At least twice, one at Quarterly meet and one at BRK social. Have fun reading! http://www.manhattanreefs.com/forum/reefs-...ris-darwin.html Cheers,
  19. I am still here, won't be back until the end of the week. I just got a lot of small sps frags from Aquamart, shipping out next week as I am rebuilding the tank.
