AndrewB November 27, 2007 November 27, 2007 After almost ten years of handling all kinds of venomous, toothy or otherwise dangerous fish and not having any trouble, I've been nailed twice in the last week. First, a yellow tang got my finger. Didn't hurt, 'til later anyway. That scalpel is sharp! Went straight down to the bone, in and out like nothing at all. Then tonight a canary blenny bit me through a net. Youch! Don't call 'em fang blennies for nothing. Of course, both hits were while I was netting the fish... More funny than anything though. So, who else has gotten nailed by their fish?
jason the filter freak November 27, 2007 November 27, 2007 I dunno about a fish, but I dropped a veggiclip behind rock work in my 55 and I knew I didn't have any aggressive fish so in my hand went... whoops long spine urchin spine yeeeouch

Hasn't gotten me since, but he does occasionally threaten. bob
reefhunter November 27, 2007 November 27, 2007 I had a tomato clown (solid red) in an anemone and everytime I put my arm in the left half of the tank it would swim full speed and nail me (in a 220 reef). No teeth but when you aren't expecting it, it is shocking. I tidal waved myself pulling my arm out super fast one day.... that night I snuck downstairs when he was sleeping.... stuck a net over his anemone... and poked him with a stick.... GOT YOUR BUTT! Now my fish dont bite me.... I donated the clown fish to Dave's school tank so I bet he is attacking elementary school kids now.....
bigJPDC November 27, 2007 November 27, 2007 my cleaner shrimp comes at my hand with all those antennae a-flappin' and creeps me out while I am trying to move frags around. I know exactly what you mean about the tidal wave.
jnguyen4007 November 27, 2007 November 27, 2007 My fireshrimp likes to come out from under the rocks and jump on my arm now and then. The pair of black/white false percs now and then would try to nip at my fingers or nibble at my arm. A bit unnerving when you're not expecting it and yes, a bit of tidalwave action occurs too. James
bigJPDC November 27, 2007 November 27, 2007 thos shrimp are fearless, which might explain why I see so many of them at the grocery store behind the fish counter. Boiled up a couple of pounds this weekend - yummmy!
Rascal November 27, 2007 November 27, 2007 I think they are just trying to "clean" you when they do that. I once saw Jeff Corwin let a cleaner shrimp into his mouth to clean his teeth on the Great Barrier Reef.
WallyBackm November 27, 2007 November 27, 2007 Tried to get my blue hippo tang out to treat for ich a while back and stuck my finger right through his spikes. Hurt like H-E-double hocky sticks the whole night and was swollen for 5 days.
rsaavedra November 27, 2007 November 27, 2007 I was raised on the Puertorican shores and man let me tell you I have stepped in so many long spine urchins, stung by jellyfishes, pinched by so many things in the water that I lost count. Never the less every single one hurt badly... not fun!!! Raf

gastone November 27, 2007 November 27, 2007 You know someone had to say it, used to keep FW in college. Kept an aggressive tank with 3 pirhannas and an electric cat. Got nailed by a pirhanna (about 3") on my pinky. Bled uncontrollably for hours. The cat nailed me as well. Just about peed my pants from that one. Garrett.
rsaavedra November 27, 2007 November 27, 2007 Raf, Is it true that if you get stung by a jellyfish, the best way to stop the swelling and ease the pain is to apply urine on it? James James not proud of that fact, but my uncle peed on my leg and immediately told me to lay my legs flat on the shore sand then he packed my leg with wet sand and the swelling/stinging went away in about 10 minutes. I don't know if it was the urine or the sand the one that did the trick. Which ever it was took the sting/swelling away and all it was left was just some minor irritation.
HowardofNOVA November 27, 2007 November 27, 2007 Not myself, but met a guy in a fish store with a nasty scar from a Dog Fish Puffer that took a hunk the size of dime right out of the meat of his hand! OUCH!!
treesprite November 27, 2007 November 27, 2007 alright, this is a funny story from my Petco working days of an aggressive fish attack. A guy called one day yelling angrily and in a panic that he wanted his money back because an oscar bit his finger and wouldn't let go of it - the oscar was hanging on as he was yelling. He wouldn't stop yelling to listen to me so I ended up just hanging up on him, then promptly cracked up laughing. The guy had to have been teasing the fish to get it to hang on like that.... I had my hands in oscar tanks a lot and never had one go for me.
davelin315 November 27, 2007 November 27, 2007 Lionfish spike and yellow tang. Lionfish hurt more than anything. Ever.
lanman November 28, 2007 November 28, 2007 Okay... now that you've convinced me that my 240 will be a fish-free tank... Maybe a little electric yellow submarine for movement?? bob
