Tang (6/13)

  1. Saturday is SCALES' last day open. We will be releasing used reef lighting, aquarium books and moving out all the rest of the stuff here that needs to go. We still have cleanup crew available, one fuzzy dwarf lionfish and lots of small, drilled tanks. If you purchased a used tank, it must be picked up Friday or Saturday.
  2. There's a lot left... Still frozen foods, marine/reef water conditioners/additives, lots of critters especially, including peppermint shrimp, blue leg hermits, star snails, porcelain crabs, turbo snails, nerite snails, cerith snails, a jawfish or two, urchins, emerald crabs (green or pink) and some other stuff. All remaining corals are $5, $10 or $20. We need a home for a large miniatus grouper. Want a beautiful small reef display? We have an Oceanic Tech setup, 45 gal, comes with tank, stand and Oceanic sump for only $600... Normal low SCALES price was $1200 on this setup. Tanks - tons left. Folks, this is an amazing, if unfortunate, opportunity. We have 30 (36x12x16) and 40br (36x18x16) with a hole drilled low on the the side panel. These are perfect for making sumps to use with external pumps. Also 40br tanks with overflow holes available for a stand alone display or a satellite tank off a large system. Lots of 15 (24x12x12) and 20H (24x12x16) tanks with holes drilled on the top back corner for use with inline systems. It's easy to plumb these into an existing system or start a new system. There are a few custom 100 (72x18x18) tanks both drilled for overflows or standard. You'll never see these tanks again without paying mucho bucks for a custom build. Got some 75's too, these have a hole drilled low in the back panel. This can be plumbed for a standpipe overflow or used as an intake for an external pump. Or, drill some more holes and have a cool CL pattern. Thanks to everyone who came by this weekend to help us clear out.
  3. SCALES Tropical Fish Warehouse will be closing its doors at the end of the month. The principals have decided to close the retail front and focus on our service and custom installation activities. Everything has got to go! All retail goods and livestock are 50% off. All store fixtures, tanks, equipment, etc. are for sale. There's a lot of stuff here to be sold! See the web for details. We have a ton of tanks and other equipment that would be great for display systems, breeding/propagation systems, sumps, refugia and much more. Sincere thanks to everyone who has supported us over the years and we hope you can come by and take advantage of our liquidation to further your own pursuit in the hobby.

  10. Sometimes you'll get a problem if the water level in the skimmer is too high relative to the water level in the tank, especially with CPR BakPak skimmers. If you have any media in the skimmer, take it out and give it a try. Check the outflow too to make sure there's nothing slowing the water flow from the skimmer back to the tank.
  11. Last night and this morning I just brought more than 150 new SW fish out of quarantine... 13. Do a 72" long tank if you only have 24" front-to-back. Anything longer will look a bit funny IMO. A standard 180 (72x24x24) would be perfect. Tanks usually look better if you don't try to use the maximum space available and you can use the money you save on good equipment and livestock. If it was my tank I'd do a T5HO system on it, maybe a 12x36" bulb or 16x36" bulb fixture, and forego the MH option. The Deep Dimension tanks are awesome but in townhouse it might be a little much...
  14. Some really nice fish in stock, here's a few highlights: Blue Reef Chromis - large, healthy, eating!! Sargassum Frog Fish - Queen Angels - adult colors, small size Bicolor Angel Tangs - Yellow, Hippo, Tomini, Clown, Sohal, Powder Blue and more!! Sexy Shrimp Porcelain Crabs Emerald Crabs Peppermint Shrimp Blue Linkia Did I mention the Sargassum Frog Fish? So Cool... Lots, lots lots more... It's too cold to play golf, come on down!
  15. First, we have a Marineland Deep Dimensions in the store that will not be installed for a few days. If you haven't seen one of these yet and would like to, come on down! We have the 250gal, 60" long model here. Bring your measuring tape. Also, we still have an AGA 75gal oak color frame tank with overflow offered at only $199.99 to WAMAS or CMAS members. This is essentially cost for this tank, at the old price levels... I've spoken to my AGA rep who has told me that there has not been a design change in terms of tempered glass used for the sides of their aquariums. If you are interested in seeing which tanks have tempered bottoms, you can look here: AGA Tank Specs. Plus, lots of cool fish, inverts, corals...
