  1. Hello all been a long while. Have 8 yr old 6x54 Tek T5 fixture. The 4 bulb ballast fried. It's an advanced Phillips ballast Anyone know where I can source that locally? Or should I look at a new fixture? I'm under the gun with a tank full of sps. Any recs on new T5 fixtures. Been 8 yrs since I shopped. Thanks for any and all advice.
  2. Here's my $.02, not that it was solicited. While I am sympathetic to many people's charges that businesses need to adapt, etc., and charge less prices, this simply does not apply to BRK. Their fish prices are normally CHEAPER than anything I can find online, and the fish are generally much healthier. There are other things at work here, including the economy, of course, but BRK is an outlier in my opinion. Its prices are competitive with internet operations. Johnny, again my unsolicited advice, take it fwiw. As others have commented, BRK is good distance from many, including myself (1.5 hours round trip in the car). I am highly motivated to make this trip if something new has landed in your store, or if there is a sale, even a nominal one. Increased internet marketing (I see a lot tailored to the koi crew) would certainly motivate me more.
  3. does anyone know where I can buy a new ceramic shaft for my return pump? or where I can buy ceramic rods and make one? marinedepot has them but will take several days. Thanks
  4. Larry was the man. He had like 6 tanks in his house and his specialty was wrasses. He even knew the Latin names. I stopped by Roozens the other day and their prices are simply not competitive any more. I say this as a customer for over 5 years now. There were 2 guys working there, one guy told me that a clown tang cost $58 (why does every price end in 8?) and the other guy told me $78.
  5. Roozens' prices are not what they used to be. Hands down, BRK, and F&F, have cheaper prices on nearly everything. Certainly Roozens has a larger selection, but if you're not looking for batfish or boxfish, you can find what you need at BRK or F&F. As far as corals, forget it. The huge tank on the way to the fish area is full of bleached acros that have seen better days. If you want to get sponges or crappy zoas, then you may find that at Roozens. Even Jos doesn't seem to be pricing things well anymore. As someone else wrote, since Larry left the place has changed. Prices are no longer competitive.
  6. Outstanding! Also, awesome Rik I didn't know that about you...very impressive
  7. going to ORL in August. Where is this joint in relation to disney world?
  8. I know if I got so screwed by a company to the degree others have, I would post it all over the seven seas. Bashing GC is not exaclty an uncommon occurrence on fish boards. A moving company tried to hose me once and complaining about it on moving forums (yes they do exist) eventually got me a refund of sorts.
  9. I simply created a T controlled with a ball valve right above my return pump that sits at a right angle directly above the lip of my sump. When I want to do a water change, i twist on a 10 foot hose to this T, turn the ball valve open, turn on the return pump and pump the water directly to a drain. Building in extra plumbing options directly into your return lines controlled by valves can never hurt for this application, or others as well (running a phosban, to a UV, etc.)
  10. I have an MSX 200 on my 120 SPS tank--it's an outstanding skimmer, plug and play. Highly recommended.
  11. I was there in early Feb and they had 2 tanks full of chalices. Jos told me that other MD stores have been in there to purchase them the day they come in. I agree with MOGA, they couldn't give 2 cents consideration about what people on WAMAS think about them. In fact, they consider WAMAS a competitor, for whatever strange reasons.
  12. I've always had trouble with Copperbands. First it's getting them to eat, then it's making sure they get enough to eat when in competition with tangs and an angel. Then it's kind of like they pack it in and slowly die.
  13. Odd that PETA would care about a friggin crustacean. Throwing live crabs into boiling water is ok, but a funny video not? "leg handing technique"--that is funny. Maybe we'll see that in ultimate fighting soon....here's my leg.
  14. I am not going to bash anyone for feeding a mantis, but just want to point out that "life" is a vast ocean which allows the prey a chance to escape, not an enclosed tank.
