  1. I think we all can relate to what a frustrating hobby this can be, but the great thing about this hobby do make it worthwhile. Bounce back and rediscover the fun. Good luck with the recovery
  2. Cordis Pets in Manassas I've driven by their place numerous times without stopping. I don't recall ever hearing mention of them on the board. Anyone every been there?
  3. What can out compete Calupera? Will this stuff die off if I continue to low-feed the tank and keep on skimming? Or is it likely that I am stuck with this? Thanks
  4. I have SPS and some soft coral plus a clam so cutting the light for an extended period is not a viable option. Thanks in any case /George
  5. OK, mistakes were made. Yes that felt good. Somehow a strain of feather Caulerpa got loose in my main tank and wants to grow everywhere. I would like this stuff gone but manual removal can only do so much since it breaks off in pieces and it grows everywhere including hard-to-reach places. I have a 125 with a Yellow and a Kole tang along with 10 one inch fish. I use an ASM 3 skimmer and have a 30 gal fuge with more macro and a 5 inch sand bed. I feed my tank very little so I don't think a food reduction will help. Someone suggested a Naso tang might help. Any suggestions???? Thanks

  7. keep us posted! and good luck!
  8. yes, sir. I bought it from them and it really helped with output and reduced waste water.
  9. Steve adding/replacing a tank.....somehow I think that will have a calming effect on the world. Serenity is close at hand and all is right with the world.
  10. Great looking corals and fish. I like the look of sand though
  11. I think I have the same unit. You should be at 0 after DI, but I think there is a break in period. There certainly is a wait before the auto-shutoff works flawlessly. I bought a booster pump because of low PSI and the difference is huge - especially in the colder months
  12. I confess. I've done it as well. I lost Xenia and a nice Open Brain Coral and I pledged as well, to never do that again. I hope your critters recover.
  13. Are you sure about this? I am sure a lot depends on what you have in your tank, but I am under the impression that 80 is fine and that 82-83 can do wonders to jump start/ increase coral growth. Stability is the big factor.
  14. Only the good die young. RIP!
  15. Best wishes for a speedy return
  16. Additives are almost all completely unnecessary unless you are testing the limits of what your tank can support. Regular water changes of 5-10% every week or so will do the job just fine
  17. Very nice job. Keep up the nice work.
  18. I like that1 Way to use your brain.
  19. I have just taken that trip. My nitrates were off the chart since I neglected to test for a few months. I did 25% water changes weekly to get to 20, then I spoke to Tri Bui (Don) when I picked up a few things from him. His advice was to cut back on feeding to every other day and let the fish live off the tank. Now my nitrates test at 0 to 0.5 and my corals are happy. It is the best thing I have done to date. One question if I may ... I have a good growth of Macro in the fuge - does this mean that I still have too many nutrients?
  20. Having a siphon fail to break because a hole has become clogged with algae is a real bummer.
  21. Maybe its just me but I view general/non-specific negative comments to be the lowest form of internet commentary. FWIW I have been there twice and was pleased with the selection, prices and help available.
  22. I would use mostly new sand and only a scoop of old sand to seed the tank. $60 is the cost of one coral - and I would not want to risk a new cycle. Most corals can go a few days with out full light ... the ocean isn't always sunny Good luck /George
