  1. Maybe I'm missing something but it looks like you're placing an acrylic tank on a stand designed for a glass tank. Glass tank = support around the edges Acrylic = support across the entire bottom.
  2. Vente de la Louisiane Upon completion of the "Louisiana Purchase" agreement, Napoleon Bonaparte stated, "This accession of territory affirms forever the power of the United States, and I have given England a maritime rival who sooner or later will humble her pride." How's that for a FRAG from the French
  3. Very nice, the 6-line is a real poser :-)
  4. Jason, Your "plan" sounds good and thanks for your efforts. If Kevin can pick-up for the VA folks, that would be great. If it's me, it would have to be in the evening. Larry
  5. I've heard good things about this equipment but since their web-page is unavailable I can't reearch. I just discovered that my 25" tall skimmer won't fit where I want to put it but I remember hearing of a "shorty" from GSA. Maybe it was my medication Anyway, is there another "unofficial" link to GSA's products or does anyone have info on a skimmer that is near 20" that can handle 150 gals? HOB's are options. I like the Deltec MCE600 but it's too expensive. I like to Remora Pro but need something tht can eaily handle 150 gals. Thanks
  6. Great work, quite an evolution
  7. Real nice!
  8. You guys should look at this other thread and comment; right up your alley.
  9. Problem Solved! You guys had me worrying but I think Air, Water, and Ice; one of our friendly vendors has a solution. I'm thinking this sounds like a good idea. Thanks again Bob
  10. I found this interesting article on Chloramine ----------------------------- The Chloramine Issue Most of us are familiar with chlorine. For most of the 20th century, chlorine was the disinfectant of choice for public water supplies. Now it is being rapidly replaced by a substance called chloramine, a mix of chlorine and ammonia. The decline in the use of chlorine began with the relatively recent discovery of a group unsavory and often carcinogenic spin-off chemicals called trihalomethanes (THMs) that are formed when chlorine combines with organic matter in water. To meet EPA standards for THMs, which once created are hard to remove, municipal suppliers are turning increasingly to disinfection with chloramines, which produce much lower levels of trihalomethanes. As often happens in our imperfect world, however, the solution to the THM problem brought its own set of problems. For example, chloramine can be deadly to fish in aquariums and ponds and to patients on dialysis machines. For regular home use, water with chloramine presents aesthetic issues of bad taste, odor and skin irritation. And let
  11. Agree with Brian. Definitely get the reflectors and paint the inside of the hood. I don't know the numbers but the reflectors make a big difference. I'm putting 6 in my 24" deep tank, all with their own reflector.
  12. Good work on the tank. I'd like to suggest putting reflector on the T5s. They jut clip on the bulbs ang greatly increase their effective output. Keep up the good work and thank Dad. Like these
  13. Thanks for the heads-up I'm in Prince William Co. and hope this won't affect us
  14. I was yanking-out some spagetti macro from my fuge the other day and accidentally grabbed one.
  15. I personally like the Seahorse idea. I'd do one but the "feed twice a day" is difficult for me to keep up with. Another option would to set-up a BTA farm like flowerseller.
  16. That depth is schweet!
  17. I'll bet the branching rock will look great with the corals growing on it.
  18. I'm still marveling at your fantastic aquascaping!
  19. Funny how sometimes "Mother Nature" fixes things we can't. How do you plan on doing the "Columns"?
  20. Well, it would be a pain to keep algae out of the bridge anyway.
  21. Liar! The 2 75s look very kool together.
  22. We could be wrong but I've read that as-well. Kinda makes sense, stuff that thrives down lower prefers less light and flow. A bit of a delima for mixed reef systems. You may also have the problem of mixing-up the substrate too much. I go for minimal flow at the bottom and more near the surface and an occasional "turkey baster" blast here and there but maybe that's just me. Actually, I would think this would make minimal flow at the bottom except for right near the outlet and max flow mid to top.
  23. On a related issue, if you're in this hobby you can't posibly be sane.
  24. The Aquarium Company in Reston. Great place, great fish and corals, & Sean seems like a great guy. Sean is very knowledgeable and helpful. If you're anywhere near Restton you're very fortunate to have The Aquarium Company near you. Make sure you visit the place... And don't forget to go to Church... another story
