In my experience that type of algae has grown in tanks/systems that lacked in aeration and alkalinity...the cause of that would be slow tank turnover and quite possibly an accumulation of acids particularly carbonic acid. Ive seen it grow in tanks that essentially were on the softer side of ideal mineral levels. I might recommend increasingflow through the displayso that your skimmer passes more water more often. I've never really been a fan of ph meters....a good Test kit like Hach or lamotte is best IMO. Just my two cents.

if your curious about an intestinal parasite, only get curious if the animals health is questionable, other wise assume hes a fartarss. A dip or more like short term immersion in trichlorfan will literally send the worms shooting out of the fishes anus. I have also experimented with wormwood, 3x droncit(praziquantel) short term baths, and fresh water w/ formalin. the prazi (dronict) and the organophosphate dylox or trichlorfan work well. Unforunately there is not many ways to detect the lil buggers unless the fish is showing strong symptoms. If im not mistaken most ist. parasites are digenean, meaning that they need an intermediary host (snails) for the larval stage to develop in a swimmin adult. Best way to tell the difference between fat fish and fat worms would be to abserve the fish....I typically have seen that fish who have endoparasites tend to stay bloated. Watch for blood or worms coming from the fishes anus. Other than that keep him fat. Sean

if it is not underwater id use a plastic hose clamp, or a good ole fashioned metal clamp around some teflon on top of male threaded fittings. if the fitting is barbed a clamp without teflon wil do. is it pressure, or drain side? Sean PS web man!!!

I have just started maintaining a 120 reef tank at pharmacy in the area that has an in house compuonding lab, they have assured me that if it doesnt violate dispension laws, that i can get whatever I want. I will ask them about it on friday. Sean
-
well for the nematodes, youd have to administer orally one of the -zine meds( i.e. piperazine). for trematodes, digenean, prazi immersion can be effective if done for 3-4 weeks. any organophosphate derived compuond should do the trick. Just thought of something doug, the USDA has a lab office in Warrenton. you can drop fecal off there where they can examine it with better equipment and knowledge than I have. they only charge 15- 30 bucks as well for fecal stains. You could always dip the fish in wormwood tea, might have a psychadelic response but just an idea. Sean
-
Just a stab, but can you try and collect feces from the fish, if its an internal nematode not much you can do. if its a trematode, it can be treated quite effectively. LMK if I can help. Sean
