  1. Also BTW, when a fish slimes like that, it is a typical immune response to ectoparasites trying to or succeding in penetrating the epithelium. Sean
  2. I would start with formailn baths as it appears to be either brooklynella or chilodonella. formalin is very effective against these two as they are very similiar. If you see it get worse or not fet better after 3-4 days of daily baths, then i would move onto copper sulfate, even if you have to do it in the ten gallon tank. as it may be Amyloodinium, marine velvet. If it is the latter then you'd need to get the fish in a copper solution as soon as you rulle the first two out. I have some larger tanks I could sell for cheap because they are used. Hope that helps Sean
  3. How long did u soak in vinegar? usully it works for anything calcium based....as long as its not too diluted. Sean
  4. I know alot of reefers don't like chemical approaches....don't know if it's an experience thing or comfort issue, but if u do a bare bottom with hang on filter or sponge filter then i can reccomend a couple of things. Call me at the store or PM me if you'd like help. Also you dont have to use copper. There are alternatives. On the freshwater dip, it takes longer to kill ich in freshwater than it would the fish. FW dip is only effective against larva that have NOT dug into the epithelium. Its really effective against Ich when compared to long term hypo or a chemiical treatment. Hope that helps.... Sean
  5. +1 tried BB and i hated it...DSB is the way to be.
  6. THats right BOGO on these lil gems In this section there are zoos, paly's, clove polyps, acan frags, and many more.... Stop by and see....these arent crap corals I'm trying to get rid off, rather they are nice specimens that are fragged to a smaller size Cheers Sean

  10. Don, Watch those "welts" and make sure to observe for red streaks in or around the marks. This is hemmoraging and is is probably due to something a lil more serious than ich....like everyone else said just observe and feed. Sick fish, i mean really sick fish don't eat or graze. Sean
  11. i use the valves that bendalat linked to and they are great. I use them on top-off and calcium reactors. Sean

  15. crystal sea is the shiznit. takes longer to mix, but measures out higher in everything and has no edta or sodium thiosulfate in it like IO 2 pennies
  16. I'll take the skimmer Thanks sean
  17. If its a lack of color it could be the beggining of bleaching...your tank may be too low in nutrients. I believe, as it was explained to me, if unfiltered UV light were to reach a coral it most likely would cause necrosion not bleaching..... somebody else might have more experience with this however. Sean
  18. bruce - What corals are affected? LPS, SPS, SOFTIES?
  19. Agreed, however quinine sulfate, albeit expensive, is very gentle to the fish.
  20. Quinine Sulfate or heavy copper sulfate ALWAYS do the job for me

  23. generally speaking, tangs of the same genus...i.e: zebrasoma(yellow and sailfin), acanthurus (achilles & pbt), shouldn't be housed together...if your going to have multiple tangs make sure the tank size is appropriate and add them at the same time Sean
  24. FWIW, I sell them in the store...when they are small i try feeding them sfb reef plankton and i have a huge succes rate. the larger ones i can get onto NLS small fish formula pellets. just takes time with them. I'd reccommend housing them in a bare bottom tank and throw lots of food at 'em, b/c in the BB you can siphon out whats left. its just easier to train them onto prepared foods this way. Sean
  25. I had higher nitrates cause a similiar problem in my dispaly at the store. run carbon, and do water changes....try and get some sand from someone else's DSB. A product called nite-out will drop no3 overnight. Sean
