  1. the FW dip works only for killing animals/worms/pests that are sensitive to hypo saliniztion....it isnt meant to help restore necrosing tissue, or kill virulent pathogens or bacterial infections. Iodine is one of the best for the latter Sean
  2. Iodine at certtain concentrations is a disinfectant almost as strong as chlorine....it hasa small margin that separates toxicity between corals and pests, pathogens, etc. soooo follow the package dosing to the drop! for stonies(sps, havent done it with LPS), I have been experimenting with a 10 second FW dip, I used it on a coral piece that came in three weeks ago with acro nudies, and it worked like a charm. no adverse effects on the coral have been observed yet. Sean

  15. I guess this is a good time to announce and propose fins and feathers plan for the future.... Between now and next spring we will break the ground on a new 3000 sq. foot saltwater only store. I plan to eventually have close to 10000, yes ten thousand gallons on coral system and a few thousand for fish. I read a few weeks ago about the SWAP program....Id like to throw this idea out there which a business version of this program. You give me a frag of your prized corals, I grow them out and sell frags of them to buying customers(business side). We will catalogue the frags abased on type and allow WAMAS members to dub the name for records and marketing sake. The frags will still be available to WAMAS members of course, but at 50% of what id be asking retail....and NO I WILL NOT BE PLAYING THE PRICE PUSH/PULL GAME! anyone that knows me and my store well can vouch for my fair prices. After all that being said, should you have a catastrophe and lose a particular coral we will have a backup for you....frags, based on my models would be available from immediately- 6 weeks. small colonies obviously will take more time for us to grow them. I offer this b/c I absolutely believe this is the direction the hobby should go, also I wont have to pay $34 dollars a square foot but rather $7 a sq. foot. Therfore not costing me an arm and a leg for overhead. This program I will offer to WAMAS members exclusively, which I think will help build our membership even more while at the same time offering backup livestock support to all wamas members LMK what you guys think, agin this is months away.....but i thought Id throw it out there for everybody. Your thoughts and comments would be greatly appreciated Craig if this is considered hijacking then I can repost in a new topic heading but the feedback I am looking for here has to do directly with Idea presented in your article. Thanks gang, Sean ps...Im also trying to figure out a cool name, I initially thought of Dulles marine center, but I thoguht Our local Veterans might not like that one. PM if you think of one, dont post here cuz that would be improper.
  16. I also recomend the Kent pro scraper with the acrylic blade....no scratches and it is the absolute closest thing too a razor blade. Sean
  17. I can try for some Sebae's if youd like me to. No commitment on your part, just LMK. Sean
  18. Amphiprion clarkii...Bad common name, BAD
  19. Our store is 5 miles west of Route 28 by Dulles Airport. Exit #5 on the TOLL road. For alternate directions to bypass the toll road gimme a call at the store, or post a request for them. Sean
  20. I would love to grab a frag of the cap and the purple pavona.... Just LMK when's a good time and what youd like from me cheers Sean
  21. I have been using the display system as the treatment system...that is I treat with copper for a week and then slowly pull it out with poly pads or carbon, the poly pads are good copper indicators cuz they turn blue. I have 250 gallon QT system in the works so i can completely remove copper from the display and use the copper in the new system. Jake- I have a few brown Acros that are real hardy that id be willing to len for and IOU frag in the future? These small colonies have been passed through several people, always back to me. The purpose is to test with these hardier specimens b4 spending money. -Sean
  22. I really appreciated you coming back to the store and giving us a second chance...in retrospect i believe the previous situation ended win win. Since the last critique we have made a real effort to provide pricing for all livestock that is for sale. we do pride ourselves on our service and ability to educate the customer. But trust me when I say that I explain nitrification 2-3 dozen times a day and Always have to refuse the sale of Nemo's for the kids Betta bowl.... with that said we have learned to look at peoples lack of knowledge not as a burden but as an oppurtunity to teach. Thanks again for the rating and the visit Cheers Sean

  24. a setup like this allows the same controls as a dual chamber does. The main thing is calibrating CO2 input and the effluent of the first chamber so that it is super concentrated Alk. and Calcium. the second chamber allows the CO2 and subsequent carbonic acid to be displaced or used. As far as setting it up, I have on on my main coral sytem, and it works just as well as the dual chamber on my prop tanks in the back. Sean
  25. \ To save Money when buying a Calcium reactor buy the single chambered ones and buy a 3-4 quart rubbermaid container and driil it in the top( with this method the top does not have to be sealed). then simply get a 1/4" low-pres. male threaded adapter and screw it in to the hole in the top of the rubbermaid. Cut 4 x 1" pvc into 2-3" long pieces. cut eggcrate to fit into the rubbermaid. place pvc in the rubbermaid as support for the eggrate. Place a few pounds of calcium rich media on top of a sponge on top of the egcrate. Then sponge on top off that, then eggcrate, then another sponge for good water displacement. I find that with this method or mod. that the CO2 is mostly dispersed, which is why they throw another chamber on there. DOWN SIDE..... Prefabricated dual chamber treactors mcome with really nice and precise needle valves. Needle valves are not hard to get nor hard to install for that matter. Sean Like they say
