It's a health product which means it will be 5x the price of a normal product. Superglue works just fine until they manufacture this stuff for Reefers. My mom is a dental hygentist I'll ask

Dang nabit. Excited to see the video though

I'm not sure what pH is either. I think I have tested it a total of 2 times. I was told it doesn't matter as long as you aren't spiking it rapidly with dumping in alk (please drip dose alk if you have SPS) I test Cal and magnesium once a week. I Test alk 2-3 times a week to make sure it stays rock steady. The one neat thing on an apex would be the pH graph though. Would have saved me when I left the alk drip doser on by accident. Because it would spike pH and alert me phone correct? Oh and I wouldn't worry about a 10.5 alk as long as calcium is 400s or above. I keep hearing this Burnt tips thing and I havent seen it and run my tanks Around 10 And had a period where I was hittin 12s for a couple months. Also I wouldn't use pH buffer the fluctuations with dumping it in will affect SPS. LPS inverts and fish may not care but it's still not good for them.

No worries mon! We have all had it. The critters love to eat that tender fresh stuff too which will help when you get crabs and snails.

Any corals getting eaten? Im thinking its just a large one. But im not a worm guru

Had to Frag the top of the green slimer or it was going to grow out of the water

My advice is more live rock from DT. Any ammonia will make fish sick and not eat and can spike rapidly when you are away at work or sleeping. Keep up with the water changes until the good bacteria builds up. The source is probably uneaten food and dieoff and lack of good bacteria

Gosh darn we all have these moments. The hobby can really be rough on everyone sometimes but it's so worth it in the end. I think you made the right choice

Kalkeasser and dosing. Do you need both?
gmerek2 replied to arking_mark's topic in General Discussion
i thought about mixing a tiny bit of Kalk in my ATO that way if something happened to my doser It could possibly buy me a little time to catch the problem? The thing that makes me nervous is that it's something new I haven't used and it just dumps in fast with no precise amount. Bottom line to your question is that my SPS has done excellent with drip dosing with no Kalk. Just don't manually dose the alk make sure it goes though the drip doser -
If you isolate throw a decent amount of live rock from your tank in. And an ammonia badge (look at it often) any ammonia will make it not eat for sure. And obviously daily water changes till you feel comfortable. live brine is the way to go. If you tank is anything like mine anything else will get eaten right away by the other fish. The live brine doesn't have crazy good nutrition but it's enough to hold it off until they learn to eat the other stuff. The brine will live a week if you add a good bit of your tank water and couple drops of selecon per day. And once the container you keep brine in gets cycled they get more nutritious because I feed them finely crushed flake and reef roids. They eventually start carrying around egg sacks on their rear end which is extra nutrition. If you do enough water changes and just put a bubbler in the QT tank with no filtration or meds the brine will live in the tank with the fish. The bubbler will sometimes kill the brine though if it's too violent or too big of bubbles.

Snails/debris/buildup caught in it prevented mine from working after a few years. Also its more friction loss and I was shocked at how much more flow was achieved after taking them off. Just put a good siphon break hole in and clean siphon break with a tooth pick a few times a year. I have not had any problems with siphon break but I run direct lines with no manifold. Build your sump with enough room to hold the drain lines, return lines, and then some because unfortunately things fail. I have had ATOs fail and pump extra water, the check valves failed eventually, etc etc

between my display, temporary tank, QT, blackworm tank, Garbage cans full of water, I have 400G of water in the basement. SUMMER MONTHS: Dehumidifier runs non stop but does a good job. Tom has mentioned several times to put an intake in the air handler down there so the A/C would help remove some of the moisture. That would help a lot and would be an easy project but I havnt got to it yet. Because I dont use a canopy my tanks heaters are fired a lot in the summer. The basement stays cool in summer because if the A/C is on the cold air settles plus half my basement is below grade so it says cool even when A/C isnt on. So I find the cool basement annoying in the summer since my heaters are fired half the time anyhow. Winter months: Humidity is not an issue at all. The air in my basement and house is actually pretty dry and I love the tanks to help put moisture in the air. The dehumidifier has been off for months. Again it would be awesome if I put an intake down there to help disperse the humidity throughout the house better. I also get a lot more evap in the tanks with the dry air. Bottom line I would spend the money to insulate the basement no doubt. Mine is only Insulated down to the frost line and I wish the whole thing were down to the floor. An exhaust fan would be nice if you don't use a lot of A/C.

First time hatched the baby clownfish

Neat! Good luck to you and the fish! -
I can take video of them diving down in sand containers. They found them first night! Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk

I have a bunch of those guys too love them. They should still live it probably doesn't take much to keep em going

With the activities some people do in their bedrooms the tank location could actually could help with waves/flow. Making SPS thrive. And the fish would just think its a 15 min tidal change
-
It is actually only doing it when the other is really close by! That makes me feel better.
-
Yeah let it settle in. Don't mess with anything. I thought I was going to lose mine then all the sudden a week later I had two. so hopefully its in process of splitting.

Yes I keep clams and sensitive SPS in this tank and monitor parameters very closely for not only the numbers but stability on a graph. I also routinely double check the devices checking the parameters. I actually love tank maintenance. Hated it at first but now I feel like its the most relaxing thing in the world and takes my mind off everything. That cleaner wrasse was skimming the top in the short 30 second video but rarely does that. The cleaner does have really goofy behavior though but I see that a lot with the cleaner wrasse in other tanks. I even see it swimming upside down sometimes when begging lol! The coris wrasse has had more vibrant coloration change recently. Its head is getting green and pink strips down its face, dorsal and anal fin. Also the black spots on the dorsal fin are changing shape and intensity. All within the past few weeks

All but one of my fish got prazi/copper treated prophylactic. So it's possible I'll keep an eye on it. It got live black worms, flake and mysis today so hopefully it's not still hungry! These fish are jumpers. No one should keep without a tight lid.

This yellow wrasse is shaking it's head out of the water a lot. Not sure what the heck is going on with it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcd0ARyN_E8
