  1. Give it some time to settle. Did the bagged sand suggested rinsing before adding? I wouldn't waste money on running carbon right now. Skimmer just sounds like it's breaking in (not that I've ever had to break in a skimmer, so don't listen to me.) I think my PH is generally at 8... and I'm doing alright
  2. They can and do split naturally, just because. At least from what I have read about. Stress is also a big one. I have read that feeding a big serving and then doing a large water change can induce a split, but it sounds to me like one of those old wives tales.... I will have to try what Rob suggested, I have never heard that before...
  3. I personally would not dip a nem. Not only does it not seem necessary, they absorb the water that they are in, sounds like a recipe for instant death.
  4. Give it a week, no need to feed immediately, IMO.
  5. Nice! Good to hear, great to share! Every good customer service story is not always shared, but every negative one is always told. Congrats on your new pump!
  6. Haha, thanks for confirming. You can see why I would be worried if it looked like it was going south! This was from the "Dr. Macs, we pick your clam out and give you a good price on it" sale. I took a gamble, and I'm glad I did! Thanks for that! Jan had recommended that book to me a ways ago. I have a handful of saltwater literature that I am working on making my way through cover to cover. I suppose this will be on the list now as well!
  7. Cool, will stop stressing. I always thought the snorkel was the mouth, as it is usually what squirts the water my way when it's pissed. Looks like I have some reading to do...
  8. Perhaps this will be helpful?
  9. That's the 20g, should be fine, I have a recirc cs1 in mine.
  10. You can get your apex working like a charm and you've designed your own LED's, and you're worried about parameters and using testing kits?! I've never seen that salt, when i started, somebody suggested Reef Crystals, and I've just stuck with it since. I've got a bucket of salt that looks similar that I got in a trade, it's just sitting there. I should have donated it to frag fest.
  11. Alan.... this is superb. For lack of better words.
  12. I'll be broke with salt before I can stock it the same way! Thanks for tuning in! I never considered a powder brown tang over the hippo, I hear they are also finicky with bringing into a tank. Thus far, the hippo is doing awesome. I keep telling him there is a 6' tank coming. Yes sir, PM on the way! Jason has the best references for my tank. He told me a couple weeks ago my tank looked like down town Hong Kong during rush hour. The frag racks certainly are not helping right now. I'm hoping to pull the tank in this weekend, I'm getting ready to start clearing up a spot for it now. The apartment will be cluttered for a bit, but hopefully not for long. I've got another MP40 coming tomorrow, and I got in on the evergrow GB for another IT2080. That puts me at 2x IT2080's and 2x MP40's, which should be enough to get me by on the 150. If I can pull it in this weekend, I can start filling it up, as well as throwing the rock in there, and let it cycle. My birthday is August 11th, and I think the fiance and I are going to leave the country for a 3-4 day summer vacation/celebration, so when I come back, I'd like to have it cycled and ready for transfer. Anyways, here are a few shots of the 57 from tonight: This is the only SPS piece that I'm still waiting to show some polyps on:
  13. Thank you Doug! Tom, just want to be clear, I am not complaining, or even gripping here... I was not at all concerned with getting free frags, but more so the fragging process. I would have liked to have been able to observe it without the lines. I have a few friends who are professional videographers, who I'm sure I could get to donate their time and equipment to next years event in order to make that happen!
  14. You should be alright. Think of it like a super glue sandwich, superglue a piece of putty, attach the cap to the superglue side squeeze into putty a bit. Super glue the bottom of that, attach another ball of putty, super glue the bottom of that, and attach to rock. Or just use superglue, I stopped using putty as it was just an extra step... harder to remove though if you ever change your mind.
  15. Thanks! I guess it was just a little out of the ordinary, it's never opened up like that, just curious as to why. I've seen clams opened up a bit like that before, but mostly in aquarium stores that didn't have the greatest water quality happening... Thanks! See above comment I made, reassuring though! Thanks! It's a Dr. Macs. It looks different depending on what angle you're looking at it, and is about 5" long. I was so tempted to take another one home yesterday at the meet... I've got enough going on, next meet there will be another one for sure.!
  16. So my clam has always been "pursed lipped" but tonight I noticed it was opening a bit on one side. Good, bad, doesn't matter? I've never seen it start to... open like it's doing. Hopefully this picture will illustrate:
  17. I didn't take home a single frag from what was being dealt for free (I did get some free pre planned frags from forum members though.) The lines were not worth it, IMO, although it's really nice that it's done. I enjoyed 3 things about it: 1.) The speaker. Not just this past event, but all our WAMAS meets, I honestly enjoy learning about these things, and it's great to have such awesome resources in the area. 2.) The fact that most of the club members get together. This is a great way to put faces to avatars, and even get to know our group a little bit better. Also, buying, selling, trading... when you can plan all that in advance, it makes for an awesome time! 3.) The vendors all in one place. That's awesome for me, and I love the fact that we are so lucky to have such great vendors in the area as well! On the free frags subject... what a great thing to do. I didn't know it was part of this clubs deal, but it is amazing. For those like Forrest that maybe felt a little gipped, I do have a solution. I think it was intended to be a coral fragging demo (great concept, execution lacked...) I think if corals were fragged and bagged before hand, it would be easier to hand out and distribute to those interested. I was even thinking, we could project from above, the fragging process, and display the image on screen, so everybody could see, without gathering around. Those corals that were fragged could go back to vendor, club member, whomever, instead of the frenzied lines. Maybe not a perfect idea, but a thought...
  18. I'm the same way as your husband. Just like I would never sell a car to a friend, even if it was in 100% working order, if something goes wrong with it....
  19. I was hoping for gobstoppers, buuuut a day late a buck short. maybe we can do a frag trade once they grow out, I picked up some awesome zoas as well. Tank looks awesome, as usual. LOL'D at Mr. Hanky
  20. Thanks Jack, that is super helpful to confirm. I'll probably put in for another 2080 and call it a day with lighting. Thanks! It was really nice to finally meet you and Pez face to face! He gave me some great advice on feeding so I can catch my AE up to speed with y'all! Yeah, Richard did a great job of helping me make my pockets a bit lighter. I wish I could have a piece of everything! Ohhhh, and the Dr. Mac's clams. I think I showed the most will power I've ever had yesterday when I didn't buy another clam!
  21. Wow man, this certainly has filled out VERY nicely. You've picked up a lot of corals over the past 6 months!
  22. See below Hahaha. I got the "I don't know if I'm happy for you, or if I should want to kill you...." This is true. I'm keeping in mind that I already have the IT2080, not the d120's, so my spread is just right for the 36". The canopy will be new for me, and that will be nice to hide the clutter. I can consider some different fish options and a lid now, which is nice! I'm actually not sure if it's a 120g+sump, I need some more information on that. I found that there are 150 gallon tanks, and the dimensions are as follows by L,W,H: 72 1/2 x 18 1/2 x 28 1/2 Judging by the pictures, this is what it is. I'm presuming because the door by it appears to be whatever a standard doorway is (above 6') so 72" sounds about right. That leads me to believe there is no sump adding to that volume. In turn it means I'm looking to cover a 72" spread. If that's the case, I think 2x it2080 would be just right. You are correct, I don't need to have everything covered right away, but I was thinking I could get in before this group buy closes and take care of it.
  23. I like what you've done with the scape. It's my favorite part of putting a tank together. I just feel like I suck at it. Are you going to add a piece of LR, or are you going to do a Dr. Tims or something of the sort.... OR are you going to do the old fashioned shrimp or ghost feeding and let er' ride?
