  1. Yikes! Not anytime soon I hope. I don't want to switch Reef Crystals out for pampers. Alan, stop planing seeds! No way man, If we do move, it most likely wont be far, we're planting some roots in VA, nothing that can't travel with. I figure a move in a year won't be incredibly stressful on the corals. I've been reading about transporting corals for a while now. Whatever I move with has all been picked up and transported by me anyways. Now the real question is, can I get it plumbed. I guess the better question is, who wants to help me plumb! The real, real question is, "Did I ever know I was going to be typing out plumb/plumbing as much as I have over the past 2 days?"
  2. Out of all the scapes you printed out, I love the one second up on the left from the bottom. I feel like you're right, it does kind of look same old. Try adding a bit of a scattered horizon to it. And what i mean by that, is it looks pretty uniformed across. On both sides, there isn't a lot of ups and downs. Try and make more arches on the left hand side, or caves, and maybe add some ledges around, if at all possible. Sometimes I find a beer helps loosen me up
  3. Totally slacking. Had a busy weekend from Friday-Sunday night, just been making RO/DI water and filling her up. Plan on mixing the salt in he tank (just water in there now.) I've probably got about 75 gallons totaled, but I need to empty it out tonight so I can slide my new sump in from the back. Thanks for the kind words. I am really really really looking forward to it. Although my fiance suggested that I actually keep the 57 up and running, I don't think I can fully dedicate the time to keep both systems going. Nor the money, I ordered another it2080, and plan to use the one I currently have in order to have acro growth across the full 6'. In turn, if I kept the 57 running, I would need an additional skimmer, mp40 (not so much need as it is a want), and then just more space in order to keep water mixed for 200 gallons+ of water. I don't see it as realistic, as much as I would like to do it. I expected these cost to incur, but materials and needed equipment for the 150 are adding up quickly. Good news is, I planned on upgrading sooner than later, so I tried to keep that in mind when making equipment purchases. I was nervous about the jump up, but I view it as an opportunity to focus on simplicity!
  4. I use it for many applications at work, just keep it on hand in bulk
  5. It sets quick? I've got stockpiles of this stuff!
  6. My clowns hosted, and killed my frogspawn with love when I had my smaller tank. Also, Kim is right, there looks like there is a lot going on that frag, sponges, and something growing out the other side. It could be irritating it. Just guessing here, so take my advice with a grain of salt.
  7. Brad, when do you want to come over and help aquascape this thing? I'm already cluttering my rock together and making huge piles and arches.
  8. Looks great! Agree about all the equipment on the back though!
  9. Thanks Jack, nope, we don't pay for water. But don't think I pumped all that RO out for nothing... it's going in all my extra buckets and containters while I cuss that 150 and stand out about 2' tomorrow. Just working on my new aquascape, favorite part. Wish Frank would get down this way and help me!
  10. I don't understand how people keep these so simple. Looks amazing, as always.
  11. Me either. Plumbing will start tomorrow. At this rate, I'm not going to rule it out :P Thank you sir! I just picked up this sump. Plumbed for a dart. Originally plumbed for a deep blue pump. It's going to be GLORIOUS having such a large sump that fits. The only problem? I've filled up the tank with 50 gallons of RO/DI, and will have to drain it to slide it out and move it in. Womp womp.
  12. The aquascape is my favorite part as well. I like the sanded black look you ended up getting! Sorry it sucked to use. If you really want a sanded black looks, you could always try the rustoleum bedliner (for trucks and what not.) It goes on really fine, and it is fairly cheap. Used it on my old Jeeps fender flares, and it did a great job!
  13. Hey man. I stopped paying attention for a little bit, I turn around and you've got THIS going on? NICE! Seriously, this has come a long way, and is looking fantastic. You're doing a great job with this, I'll have to check it out sometime soon!
  14. Very good points, Alan. Yep, I think you're right, I am over thinking, which is strange.... An excellent point. I can't afford to lose 150 gallons onto my floor That's good to know that you've been able to jam all that into a 20H. My sump has been concerning me for a long while now, that's reassuring information. Jason is right below though, the diameter on all the already drilled holes is 1.5", which means it's already setup for 3/4 bulkheads. Is there a way around this, without drilling? And is that way around it just keeping everything at 3/4's?
  15. I would love a standard 55 under there. But I wouldn't be able to take the skimmer cup out, or do ANY maintenance. Stand is only 28" tall. I just measured, and I can probably do a 17.5" wide sump upon remeasuring.
  16. On that note... does anybody know of a reasonably sized sump that is not longer than 16" wide that I can run on this? I'm getting ready to price one out and see if it's not going to come out to about the same as what that link above is.
  17. Very cool link, thanks for that! I don't want to dismiss it, but I'm REALLY happy with my durso overflow, think I will keep it! So before everybody goes ahead and realizes what a great artist I am, I want to let everybody know that I will not do sketches for you. Right side, returns, left side drains. Sump... hopeless, I want one of these, the 36.
  18. That is usually the standard, but I have never plumbed anything, I think I'm picking up quick :P This may be a better place to figure all that out. And ixnay on the her-bay. I plan on doing a durso, SUPER quiet on my 57, no problems.
  19. So I have never plumbed a tank, but I have a feeling I'm getting ready to learn all about it. I have some ideas about how I'd like to keep it as simple as possible, and would like to hear thoughts. First off, it's a 150RR, with two corner overflows. The holes drilled are 1.5, so I'm going to be using 3/4" slip bulkheads. I presume this means I want to use 3/4 PVC? So the way this is plumbed will play some part in the equation of flow. I know that generally the average reef tank is plumbed behind each overflow box with 1 return and 1 drain, but hear me out. I would like to setup both holes behind my right side overflow box as returns pointing towards the left side of the tank. The left side of the tank will both be the drains. This will in turn provide a constant water flow cycling the tank. So you're probably thinking, well... you want it a little bit more random than that, Isaac. Got you covered. Two MP40's, placed on the back wall, essentially in a constantly flux of surging the water off the front pane, will provide that "random" flow all over the tank. In theory, this means my returns will only have one 90 degree angle on them (as the sump will be right below, and my drains will just be plumbed down along the 6' of tank and stand into the sump. Who sees problems with this down the line? Suggestions? Or... H-E-double hockey sticks yeah, do it?!
  20. Next question: If my bulkheads are 3/4", that means that's the size of my PVC as well, correct?
  21. I'm confused as to how that chills the water?
  22. Well, first I've got to make 150 gallons of RO/DI. don't see that happening overnight No big rush, my first time plumbing a tank, going to be exciting.
