  1. So I have never plumbed a tank, but I have a feeling I'm getting ready to learn all about it. I have some ideas about how I'd like to keep it as simple as possible, and would like to hear thoughts. First off, it's a 150RR, with two corner overflows. The holes drilled are 1.5, so I'm going to be using 3/4" slip bulkheads. I presume this means I want to use 3/4 PVC? So the way this is plumbed will play some part in the equation of flow. I know that generally the average reef tank is plumbed behind each overflow box with 1 return and 1 drain, but hear me out. I would like to setup both holes behind my right side overflow box as returns pointing towards the left side of the tank. The left side of the tank will both be the drains. This will in turn provide a constant water flow cycling the tank. So you're probably thinking, well... you want it a little bit more random than that, Isaac. Got you covered. Two MP40's, placed on the back wall, essentially in a constantly flux of surging the water off the front pane, will provide that "random" flow all over the tank. In theory, this means my returns will only have one 90 degree angle on them (as the sump will be right below, and my drains will just be plumbed down along the 6' of tank and stand into the sump. Who sees problems with this down the line? Suggestions? Or... H-E-double hockey sticks yeah, do it?!
  2. Next question: If my bulkheads are 3/4", that means that's the size of my PVC as well, correct?
  3. I'm confused as to how that chills the water?
  4. Well, first I've got to make 150 gallons of RO/DI. don't see that happening overnight No big rush, my first time plumbing a tank, going to be exciting.
  5. Very cool, thanks for all the info. Coral Hind, that chart is exactly what I was looking for.
  6. When you add links, use the IMG link code and paste it in. That will bring your pics up when people view. Your middle link is broken, couldn't fix that for you. Looking good!
  7. Having a blast over here. I switch from having an overwhelming feeling to an "OMG, YES YES YES!" back and forth. Lot of work to do with plumbing and planning. Keep tagging along, it's going to be Bananas. Thank you! 3x as much is right. The real estate is a bizare concept. I knew I would get here... just didn't think it would be so soon. I just got my battery backup as well, saved it for this build instead of hooking to the 57. I'll do the Apex once I get plumbing outta' the way. Down the road I'll need the WXM adapter for my MP40's. You have no idea how great it just... worked out. I have been stressing about bringing it in all week, because, you know, the non reefer in the family. She gave me some play time this morning and when she came in announced "You know what, I know you're not going to believe me, but I LOVE IT." And then proceeded to say: and I said... I told you (which I did, the space does look bigger...) and you didn't believe me! So good thing everything went smoothly, because if you see above, it was about 2am when I finally figured out how I was going to do this. I have to admit, I like the location here better as well! Thanks again for everything, I'll be looking forward to seeing what you do with your space! Thank you very much! SO MANY ACTIVITIES!
  8. So if the holes are 1.5, I don't want to go with 1.5 bulkheads? I have never done this before, so I just want to make sure that before I order 4 bulkheads, I'm getting the right size ones!
  9. If my drilled holes in the glass are 1.5", what size bulkheads would I need, AND any local vendors have them?
  10. Yeah, she actually loves it better. It really opens up our space a bit more, I think I enjoy it more as well! I cleared her out for the morning (not really, she had something else to do..) but it worked perfectly and gave me a chance to mess around and clean everything up before she came back. I just sent a picture and she loves it, it's a win win. So many people to thank here at this stage, I feel like I'm doing an acceptance speech for this award. First off, I'd like to thank AlanM, for making all this possible. Second, I'd like to thank Dip for being so accommodating and helpful with the transition, and for holding onto it for so long. Congratulations on your new upgrade! Marcos (and Cousin,) couldn't have done it without your willingness to help move it. Seriously, Marcos is a machine and all business! I showed up and him and his cousin had this thing loaded up in the TT waiting to go, I was worthless! Oh, and just to be clear, I am so excited It's out of control, I think what you were perceiving when you were here was me being overwhelmed. I've got a lot of work cut out for me! Fun work though! Jason, for being just as excited about this build as I am. Walked me through a lot of plumbing issues, and as always, great advice. Richard, ERC, just even offering to drive an hour to come help out with this means a LOT! Thanks man! Everybody else that was looking forward to this just as much as me. This is going to be a wicked fun ride, 14-150 in 9 months seems to be my top speed.
  11. Looks good man. Have you considered (and I'm working English, left to right here) the rock that makes the first 2 gaps, and having two separate structures? I would play around with how that looks, just my opinion, and then maybe try rotating the right structure so the two peaks point towards the center of the tank instead of the right corner. I don't know if that makes any sense, you may like it clearing up some of that rock that I mentioned. I don't know if the rotation would look better or not, I would have to see it. I think it would open it up quite a bit, instead of making it look like just one big ledge.
  12. We will take it! Thanks for entering!
  13. Weird, she just woke me up to tell be she really likes it.... Score!
  14. I thought I loved my rock when I started my tank as well. It's changed about 3 times now. Definitely my favorite part though. Your second structure looks way better IMO. I love your Pride Rock reference, and was immediately jealous that I don't have a pride rock ledge. Next goal: Recreate The Lion King mountain via aquascape.
  15. Just got done playing with the living room. Completely changed my mind about how I wanted things to go tomorrow. It's not ideal, but I also don't have to break our desk down and try and hook our router up on the other side, which is a plus. I'll get critiqued in the morning. Critiqued is french for something else.
  16. These? Sorry for the bad pic, it's all I could find of mine atm. They were called blue chromis when I got em'.
  17. Hahaha. It's actually a straight shot, remember my backdoor?
  18. Hey Tom, thanks for checking in. Marcos has a truck that will get er' done, and 4 of us moving, should be straightforward. Now the real issue is making sure the space provided is enough. I've cleared 7' with hopes that my future wife doesn't make me sleep in it
  19. Looks great! Now the test of time and performance.
  20. Plan on doing a transfer after cycle. But I didn't read the rest, I was too busy looking at the 80 fish I want to throw in... I've got way more room for only 50!
  21. What's the definition of insanity again?
