  1. FYI MP40 rated up to 4500GPH RW8 is only up to 2000GPH MP40 flow is twice as powerful as the RW8.
  2. to export excess nutrient.
  3. I use a 5 gallon bucket placed inside the sump for my chaeto. Drill a few 1.5" toward the bottom side of the bucket. I have 2 sumps, water flow from 1st sump through two 1.5" pipes into the chaeto bucket and exit out the bottom of the drilled holes. clip-on lamp pointed into the bucket. Chaeto used to grow quickly for me, but now just slowly melted away. I think because of lack of nutrient since my skimmer performed well.
  4. Why not just extend 6" to the back of the stand and add support in the back?
  5. small hole underneath the return nozzle (loc-line). and remember to clean it often.
  6. the overflow box will stop siphon once the overflow water level fall below the overflow box teeth. test your sump to make sure it can handle the water volume when power out ( I think I mentioned it in your earlier post). anyway, turn off the return pump and let it sit a few minutes to see if it overflow the sump. If water reaches the rim of the sump, you're in trouble Just kidding, just turn it back on and raise the inner overflow box. make sure you drill a hole under the return nozzle to break the back siphon on the return line.
  7. try DIY stockman standpipe to quiet it down.
  8. Get an in sump skimmer. Refugium is not necessary. Also, you don't have to worry about algae growing in the tube If you're satisfy with the flow then no need for second u-tube.
  9. Nice! I notice you are using clear hoses for you plumbing. Are you plan on having a refugium in that middle chamber? if you do, keep an eye on those hoses and clean them out often as algae will grow inside those hose quite easy.
  10. If you don't want to drill. Run the second drain "emergency" into the middle chamber. make a stand pipe (drain) in the overflow box a bit higher than the main drain. That way it only drain in case of blockage on the main drain. BTW were you able to increase the flow on the single drain? I used HOB ways back and only way to get more flow on a 1" drain is to get full siphon and it not easy to do with this type of overflow box design. Also, type of bulkhead and pipe varies the flow as well (but not a whole lot). schedule 80 has thicker wall so inner diameter is smaller than the inner diameter of the schedule 40. I like furniture grade pipe for drain, but it is a bit noisier than the schedule 40.
  11. yes, If this is my own setup, I would drill another hole on top of the acrylic and run the second drain.
  12. it should not be too hard to add another hole in the sump! to me it's better to be safe than sorry.
  13. You should use both of the 2 drains of the overflow box. 1" drain from the overflow box will only get around 150-200GPH (300gph if it goes straight down with no elbows). Also, the second drain will act as a emergency drain in case there is a clog or blockage on one of the drain line. the eshopps overflow box SHOULD have 2 wing nuts on the inner box that allow you to raise or lower the box. lowing it will allow more flow into the box and increase the flow as well as lower your water line in the tank so that you can increase/adjust the return flow. Also, as Eric suggested, add a valve on the pump to allow you to adjust the return flow.
  14. 1. Yes, you can run a sump without a skimmer. 2. There are 2 scenario that would cause overflow with hob overflow box a) siphon break or clogged drain, your return pump continues to pump water into your tank and eventually overflow. You can avoid this by making your return chamber small enough so that the volume in the return pump chamber is less than the volume from overflow line to the rim of the tank. b) power outage or dead return pump where water siphon back into the sump and overflow the sump. You can also avoid this by drilling a small hole under the return loc-line to break the siphon (reliable) or install a check valve (not reliable) or both. Also, configure your sump to handle enough water volume drained down or siphon back from DT in case if outage or failed return pump.
  15. 3 or more are on the same rock. They move around a bit but not very far.
  16. See this thread: http://wamas.org/forums/topic/78175-adding-a-sump-need-advice/
  17. After the setback a few months ago, I setup an observation tank for newly acquired fish and restocked my fish # to it's original #. I loss 9 and replaced with 9. Beside the B/W clownfish (WAMAS member), snowflake (petco), PJ cardinal (petsolutions), green chromis (local CL), here are videos of the new residents settled in last week. Blue Fiji devil damsel (Petco). Don't know who gave it the bad rep. but it just a beautiful fish. very well behaved citizen so far. Bi-color blenny (Petsolutions) Canary blenny (Petsolutions) Yellow tang (Petsolutions). This one is hilarious, I named it "wave rider" see for yourself! Engineer goby (local CL)
  18. yes they are No pest on the left coral! It's always been that way for over a year. Little or no PE. Here's a kicker, when I first bought the original frag, it's was all green. If they were in different level of the tank or different area of the tank, then I wouldn't be too surprised. This hobby give you all sort of surprises huh!
  19. Thanks Thanks, Several years back I got sucked into one of those moment that you wanted something so bad (can't remember the phrase). I was searching for high ended nems and I let the "marketing words" (e.g., ultra, rainbow, inferno, rare, exotic, toxic) get the best of me. Got burned a little bit but snapped out of it. Anyway, I was able to obtained 2 nems from local member/vendor and turned out pretty good without the craziness. ahh! it"s "hyped-up"
  20. The two in front are from the same frag as the one in the back and yet they all look totally different even though they are in the same tank and really close to each other. I know coral looking different in ever tank and also depending on lighting, but this is quite interesting.
  21. Nems are looking much more colorful during the first half hour after light turned on. too bad they don't look that way through out the day.
  22. Try to use one of those light orange film filter and put over the phone camera? I also found that you can take phone pics without filter by turn down the blue light and powerheads.
