  1. Actually, there were 3 of them there last night. One was in their coral tank, plus the two in the fish section. They all looked sick with ick...and there are still other fish in the tank with them (3 tanks). Sad...sad
  2. Where are the corals from?
  3. Very cool build...and nice looking corals
  4. You've got backups right? Want to be the one who finds out definitively?
  5. Wait, are you giving out rbta babies to good homes for free now? I might have to think more seriously about a nem
  6. You know some people like it when their bta's split...just sayin ;-) Looks great!
  7. So these things eat micro-algae? Would that mean I wouldn't have to scrape my glass anymore? ;-)
  8. If you mapped things out, then you noticed there aren't many that don't take a drive...and you flew in. Quantum Reefs might be the exception...should be able to walk there from the the Springfield metro...perhaps others have, but I haven't made that walk myself to know exactly how long/far it is.

    SPS?

    Too funny!
  10. I would vote for HD or Lowes...worked for me. Went heavy on the silcone...and I think maybe erred on the wide size as 1-degree crooked baffles is ok, but baffles too small leave gaps silicone can't really solve
  11. K.I.S.S. ...not that the last "S" applies to you. The lower the flow through the sump...the easier it is to keep bubbles from returning to the display. They bubble up before being swept forward by currents while still rising. Small return area is relative...but I would go on the small side for ATO sensitvity. However, calculate your return/drain lines and go from there. If you're worried about draining the return section upon start-up...then initially let the overall water level in the sump be above the single baffle separating the return section. As the water starts pumping you'll see how much more water you can remove from the system so that each compartment has it's own water level when the return pump is on. Just try to keep the skimmer cup out of the water at all times...pre- and post-activation of the return pump. Get yourself in the right ballpark with the sump baffle heights and don't be afraid to redo the plumbing, and pipe height, where you dump water into your sump. PVC is relatively cheap as this hobby goes. Have you looked at Melev's website and his sump designs? Good place to start IMO
  12. Frag fest was my first meeting last year. It was great! I think I walked away with 3 or 4 free frags....and a few I bought from sponsors on site. I could have gotten more free ones...but it was a new system and I didn't want to accidentally kill a bunch of frags when someone else might have enjoyed them. And yes, I did kill one...or a hermit buried him anyway. I met some people, got some cool stuff, ate some food and just got to know WAMAS a bit better. Really glad I came out last year and I'm going back this year. Tell your Wamas officers and volunteers thank you...cause they are the ones working for nothing but grins and chuckles
  13. If anyone has some micro brittles I'd love to grab some from you...maybe at fragfest. After I got my pepermint hog all of my micro brittles disappeared...and then of course the hogfish went carpet surfing
  14. Tom, my membership expires on the 19th. Of course I'm going to renew, but what would be better logistically given I'll need a new card at the door to fragfest?
  15. I clean my cup and neck every 2-3 weeks. I'm having a bit of an algae problem at the moment....likley because I once cleaned the cup and neck weekly and that was better. I'll probably go back to weekly now.
  16. Josh, this sucks man. Really sorry to hear. You sent some random and nice small frags my way a ways back and I'm glad to get some back to you if you decide you still want some sps after the tank re-settles.
  17. Wow, corals look great. Pics are crazy pink though...no good way to compensate for photos? I stink so bad at taking photos myself that most of my pics are just cell phone camera shots
  18. any update on the tanks? any recent pics? was going to pm you about your led layouts but your box is full. hope things continue to bounce back for you
  19. Looking forward to seeing some recent pics....nice tank
  20. Any update? How are you liking the leds at this point?
  21. Any update? How is the tank? How goes it with the leds?
  22. I think what everyone is trying to say (maybe) is that they are each just as important...IF you've nailed your water quality. However, what you are keeping or want to keep and how well your current set-up fits the needs of those corals (softy vs lps vs sps...and types of each) is what is most important when considering which transition/upgrade will net you the most positive results. You've got a 48" quad t5 rig on a 48"x18" tank, but the T5 doesn't have individual reflectors for each bulb...right? And you've got two 1200gph pumps...right? The flow is probably ok for a mixed reef if the pumps are well positioned. The light is probably a bit weak for your sps unless the SPS are only way way up high. I'd upgrade your lights and wait on the new powerheads. You can add one or two cheap powerheads (mj-pro come to mind) and get increased flow...but too much flow and your LPS won't be happy. You might want to take some par readings of your current setup, but I imagine you could do a lot better with the LEDs or at least getting T5 individual reflectors and/or swapping your ATI config to 2 Blue+ and 2 Coral+.
  23. do it - everyone should
  24. I had a good time on Saturday at the social. Glad I was able to come by...you have some very cool display tanks https://www.facebook.com/ReefeScape?ref=ts&fref=ts#!/photo.php?fbid=554848007906296&set=a.554847294573034.1073741825.100001433055550&type=1&theater
