  1. I believe there are, I just got to find the right spots. I found a decent spot today with great selection of LPS. No SPS yet though.
  2. Hey Wamas, Been a while since I posted here. I just moved to Jakarta, Indonesia and itching to get a saltwater setup going. I got a Nuvo 40 on the way . Wondering if anyone has ventured this part of the world and has any spots they recommend? I am slowly getting around the city and have found a few decent spots but the quality of the corals is so so, Live rock is dirt cheap. Got the structure below for $15. Cheers
  3. Missing having a tank

  4. I would use them if you do major changes( lighting, scape) to the tank that would trigger it to move around
  5. I used hot glue and it works great
  6. Hi there and congrats on the tank. I would start adjusting the corals slowly to the LEDs. Start with blues at 30% and whites at 10%. Then slowly bring them up during the next few weeks. At a tank that size and mainly softies I would max out at blues 50-70% and whites 20-35%. As far as hours go I run a 2 hour blue sunrise followed by 5 hours white+blue and a 1 hour blue sunset. This has worked for me but you can adjust as you like.
  7. Awesome thanks for the response. I just set up a small 14 gallon nano and will try to keep up low tech. I had a major battle with bryopsis on my 120 a couple of years back. It took over my tank from what I believe to be phosphates from the dry rock. I only got rid of it with high mag but i had to keep it really high. I raised it to 1700 with brs mag and then used kent mag to 2300. Bryopsis is gone and has not come back since. Good Luck
  8. Awesome tank. Does your BTA move around? Can you please share your maintenance routine/dosing?
  9. I got the itch to get another tank so I started a 14G biocube that I picked up from another member. Lighting is DIY led. I had an old arduino UNO that I got as a gift and i build typhoon like controller.4 meanwell LDD drivers control 29 3W LED's. A blue channel a purple channel a cyan/lime channel and a white channel. It's way overkill for the tank but I wanted a lot of color control. For water movement is WP-10. Works very well for this tank. I used some old dry rock that I had laying around for the scape. I will mainly have zoos and a few sps. I will let it run for a few weeks to get the rock cycled. The scape is not final yet but I will play around during cycling. Here are some pics.
  10. I have noticed that there is buildup on the impeller shaft and it puts a lot of strain on the motor. I wonder if that is burning the motor up.
  11. Are you dosing carbon? It happens quite a bit on my algae scrubber and I believe is excessive bacteria mixed with a bit of algae. i dose a bit of vodka.
  12. Alk swings are usually the colprit for stn. any major changes to the system in the last week? I would cut the healthy portion and reglue on another plug. Cut as far away from the dead tissue as possible.
  13. Skimming also removes salt, calcium and other beneficial minerals from the water. There was a speaker in one of our meetings that talked about this. Its worth reading.
  14. lol the point is we are all talking about it. I doubt there are 2 alike in the world.
  15. I was in the same situation a year ago. I had a light load and running wanted to run the calcium reactor. I think the best thing to do is measure how much alk and cal your system uses daily. You might not need to run the calcium reactor at all. Do you have a ph probe in the reactor? This will help with the dial in. In my opinion running calcium reactor only a few hours a day is difficult to dial in. If you have a ph probe you can run the co2 just enough to dissolve small amounts of media but this would also be difficult as ph probes tend to drift over time.
  16. Thanks Tom thats good o know. The light does not blink. I believe it's not receiving commands correctly. There is a photo coupler ps-2501-2 chip that has a slight color change possibly from overheating. I don't know how to test this chip. I will probably buy one and replace it.
  17. Tom, s2nhle is correct. The unit was nonfunctional but i like to tinker with stuff so it's more like diy project for me.
  18. The DC8 does not use USB connection. It's the old 4 pin telephone line.
  19. Hey guys, I picked up a non functional DC8 today and I am looking for some troubleshooting help. The DC8 outlets are all off with no power being delivered. The voltage regulator sends a constant 5V to every chip in the board and all individual triacs measurements are ok. I connected the unit to the apex but I don't know if the apex is able to see the unit. Has anyone seen this before on the DC8?
  20. Very nice colonies. Do you mind posting your rroutine and what lights do you use. Thanks
  21. I also recommend the apex. It has saved my tank a couple of times while I was on vacation. Between RA and Apex I believe is a decision based on the individual. If you are more of a DIY type RA might fit your needs better. Apex is a bit less programming. I would recommend you check both out and decide for yourself.
  22. My upscales microlados looks like that under LEDs.
  23. Daily- stare at the tank for an hour. Check alk every 3 days Weekly- minor cleaning Water changes 30% every 6-8 weeks
