  1. The sound of the chirping crickets tells me the answer is no...no one is familiar with this product line. Well, I am gonna try it out and will let yall know.
  2. Hello All, I have been reading and watching the videos associated with the Red Sea Reef Care Program. Is anyone here familiar with the test kits, supplements, and salts? I am considering making a switch from Instant Ocean to this line of products. I look forward to all input.
  3. Will there be any coral activities involved? Or any of the thigs that we do at our usual gatherings? Will there be any vendors there that deal in cephs?
  4. I spoke to my wife after reading this "Use of Formalin to Control Fish Parasites". She is a LVT and a wiz at conversion calculations. She has calculated that 11.4 ml of a 10% formalin solution diluted into a gallon of freshwater will give you the short-term bath concentration of 250 mg/l recommended in the linked article from the University Of Florida. Feel free to check the math. All of that to say, if you need it I can get you a jar or two and inquire about ordering some for the next shipment. Let me know.
  5. I work at an animal emergency room and referral center. We use a formalin solution of 10%. My guess is that is to strong for a dip still but you could dilute it further, right?
  6. I may be a Johnny come lately with this but I the articles in the January 2011 issue of this online magazine are a great read for advanced and novice aquarists alike. I hope every enjoys the reading as much as I have. The link is posted below. I find the Non-photosynthetic System to be very interesting. Advanced Aquarist Online MAgazine

    135 gallon

    My first Big Tank
  8. From the album: 135 gallon

My wonderful got me this as a birthday present
  9. I strongly reccomend this. I did it for a year and it is amazing.
  10. That is very cool. Grand job.
  11. Well, things are on the way. After setting the tank up on Friday, I added 8oz of urine to the system. (yes I know it is strange but it has always worked for me) Today my NH3+4, NO2, and NO3 are through the roof and the diatoms have moved in. I love watching a new system come to life. The waiting game continues.
  12. depends on how much I have to drink before not to mention I dont have any tanks deep enough
  13. However unpleasant it may sound I use my own urine to cycle all of my tanks and it always works like a charm. I am not sure how much science there is behind my theory but I figure human urine is going to be enough of a catalyst to develope a large bacteria base. Large enough to handle a great deal of bio load. I am no scientist or chemist but it has always worked wonders for me. I started a new 8g bio cube on last Friday and added 8oz of urine and today my NH3+4, NO2, and NO3 are all at the max of my test. Just my 2cents about the human urine thing.
  14. I am not anticipating that the rocks attached the wall will hold on forever. It is the nature of saltwater to decay and/or change the integrity of anything it comes in contact with over time. I wanted something different and nothing ventured is nothing gained. With the current layout, however, if anything from the back gives my glass is in no immediate danger. I think.... Thanks for joining me on this journey.
  15. "well i put 20 gallons of water in the whole thing with rock and sand so AT MOST its 25 gallon i would proably say around 22 gallons So really for lighting if it is 29 gallons you would say 2.4 watts per gallon but if u factor ACTUAL WATER IT HOLD IN THE MAIN TANK i would say your a little over 3.2 watts per gallon Make sense?? " Emphasis on the fact that if you read the post he does state that the rock and sand are in the tank. My 8 gallon biocube held 8 gallons before I added the sand and rock work, I tested it out of curiousity. After 8-9 lbs of sand and another pound or two of rock I think it is down to 5 or six gallons of actual water. I anticipated this as all I wanted to do was increase my 3 gallons filtering efficiency and compacity as well as double my current water volume. Taking in to consideration potential displacement I purchased the 8 gallon.
  16. Hey all, The corals in my 3 gallon have grow so that they are all bumping into one another so I am left with no choice but to up size my desktop beauty. As you see from the title the upgrade is a 8 gallon bio cube and it was filled with water yesterday and now I wait for the cycle to finish. I love testing water so cycling is one of my favorite parts of setting up a system. Well, here are pictures of my rock work and there will be more to come when the coral have moved over.
  17. I could work Monday or Friday after 6pm and every other month of weekends. My wife works a rotating weekend schedule and I would be available the months she is on. Let me know if this fills a need.
  18. Dude that was hilarious and I almost wet my pants laughing
  19. that is looking great Eric. I am very proud to say that i know you. Good job!
  20. I apologize for the shanghi but how do you determine the appropriate size pvc diameter for your tank. I am going to drill a 55 gallon.
  21. OUCH!!!! I think we might need to dial it down a couple thousand RPM on that last line there. We don't want the new guy scared of before he even gets settled in. Who said anything about not making salt water and what got you so ramped up dude? We are supposed to be a supportive, friendly and helpfull society . I would have to say that the point you made goes for all reefkeepers and not just nano's.
  22. Lookin good man. That is a fine looking specimen that you and Queen Isabella have picked out. What will you and you highness venture into next?
  23. 100% water change Maybe I am just not up to speed but dont you want to avoid removing all of your nicely cycled water from your aquarium. Frequent partial water changes (50% at the most) would probably be more beneficial to the system and keeping it stable. I could be wrong however. As for corals, I would get started with zoos and/or mushrooms. I am very proud of you and your progress buddy. Great job and keep it up.
  24. The water parameters are great, no ammonia or nitrites and the nitrates remain under 5ppm. I have had no troubles with phosphate but I am sure that is do to the regular water changes. Every two weeks I change out 1 gallon of water.
  25. Yup, the sand is pink. My wife wanted to have a part in the tank in some way and that was here part. What can I say if a little pink sand is all it takes to keep the Mrs. happy, bring it on by the truck load. thank you all for the time you took to review my thread.
