  1. Yup, the sand is pink. My wife wanted to have a part in the tank in some way and that was here part. What can I say if a little pink sand is all it takes to keep the Mrs. happy, bring it on by the truck load. thank you all for the time you took to review my thread.
  2. I just have the live rock that is all the filtration I have been using. The water stays very clear. I have thought about putting a sponge in the filter but I am worried about nitrates being held in it. What do you think? It has done very well without .
  3. It might be better to ask questions instead of making inferences. I understand that there are guidelines to keeping livestock in aquariums but there is always an exceptionto the rule and this is one of them. Maybe we should remember that if we have nothing nice to say then nothing should be said at all. Or perhaps, simply ask questions intead of ASSuming.
  4. This little tank has been running for two years and is my first and only saltwater set up. I will be tackling a 55g set up next. Not much to it, 36 watts of 50/50 compact flourescents, HOB Aquaclear 30 with nothing in it but liverock, and a heater. I do water changes every two weeks and top off daily. It isnt much compared to the big boys on here but I wanted to be apart of the fun aswell so here she is.
  5. When I put together the rock work for my 3 gallon pico I cycled 10 lbs of rock rubble for variety. When I was ready to design a structure, I sat down and starting playing LEGOS with some superglue. After about 8 hours and 12 budlights I had this structure since then I have added and removed things and the nice thing about the superglue is that with a little force you can seperate the little pieces and change your rock work without effort. Another upside is that in my case all of the little pieces were very light and porous so they worked great for bacteria growth and biological filtration. This is the most recent photo of my rock work... and I have changed it a bit since then to accomodate another picec of rock I purchased with a mixture of little things growing on it. All of that to say that if I had it to do again I would buy small pieces and build up a nice structure. I hope that helps and i didnt just take up a lot of space on your thread.
  6. I went by petland and was rather disappointed. Truly a waste of time and gasoline. I would like to say that Wally's is coming along nicely and it seems that the enw owners are going to really bring that place back on line. Andre
  7. Thanks everyone for the comments. I enjoy being a memeber of wamas and really enjoy all the help you have provided. I have just come into two new tanks and I will be doing seahorses in one and another nano reef in the other. I will start a thread when construction is underway and will keep you all posted. Thanks again for just being you. Thanks a bunch for the compliment. I didnt think my little tank made any lasting impressions on this site. Your comments kinda make me feel like one of the big boys.
  8. In any other case I would agree that the fish is miserable, however, the clown use to live in a 30 gallon and did miserably. When he was brought to this tank to recover and hopefully get back to health he flourished and has been doing great eversince. He has recently been trying to host my colony of yellow pollyps and to my understanding such behavior is not charecteristic of an unhappy specimen. I am inclined to say that this fish is an exception to the rule and likes his little bachelor pad. Every rule has an exception but I do appreciate your concern.
  9. hey all, The last post I had was about an overgrown starburst colony. Well, I have fragged my first coral and moved up in the hobby. So here are some pics and any suggestions or better yet any donations are very welcome. I have also updated my signature description of the aquarium and inhabitants. thanks ofr humoring me. Before the fragging After This pic is old but I like it so here it is again
  10. Check out www.purewaterclub.com. The units are good, cheap, and replacement filters are inexpensive also. I have a storage tank on mine and it is ideal because my nano is 3 gallons and my storage tank holds 5 gallons. Not to mention the water is great for drinking and cooking with. Check it out. I dont think you will be disappointed.
  11. this is my ro/di and it only cost me 100.00. It is six stage and came with a starage tank. Great deal. Check it out for yourself at www.purewaterclub.com. I am sure you will be as pleased as I am.
  12. Thanks a bunch. That is exactly whay they are. How do you guys find this information. I thank you again
  13. So I have noticed small clusters of of what look like feather duster crowns all over some areas of my rock work and one of my barnacles. They are less than 1mm in length and retract thier crowns when touched (I use the unofficially scientific poke test ) I have also noticed lots of cherrio shaped deposits for lack of better description in the vicinity of these feathery crowns. Can anyone help with IDing these?
  14. Hey all, I added a star pollyp frag to my 3 gallon pico tope and of course it initially was knocked down by snails. So I was going to purchase some glue and tack it to the L/R. Well, two weeks later and this thing has started to branch out like the blob and attach its self to the L/R. How cool is that? Is this normal behaviour for this and do other corals exhibit the same?
  15. I actually made the purchase for a 10 gallon that I have at home. Would this advice still apply?
  16. Good day all, I have purchased the B-ionic and I am curious about how many of us use this and how you feel about it. Also any info you might be willing to volunteer reguarding usage would be most greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch.
  17. Good day all, So how do you calculate if your watts are in the low, medium, or high range in relationship to coral lighting needs. I have a 10 gallon with a 130 watt PC. Also is the difference in Kelvin (i.e. 10000K vs 6700K) and nm (i.e. 460nm vs 420nm) just a visually asthetic difference or does one or the other ( or a combination of them) benifit corals more. Again, I apologize if this is a remedial question and thank all who can offer any explanation and/or recomendation.
  18. Hey all, So weather were havent aint it? I have just ordered a battery of salifert test kits and of course I have out the cart before the hoarse and now I am going to ask what yalls thoughts are on the brand. The folks out at the Pacific East Aquaculture facility seem to swear by the brand.
  19. I meant Hipocampus zosterae, I was also considering the capensis. What do you thik of those for a 10 gallon kelp forest? Do you have any info to share about sea horse care or a web site or two. Anything would be helpful.
  20. Yup, it is the Regional Vet Referral Center in Springfield VA
