My tank has 18watt CF and I would like to add a star polyp frag. Will it thrive or is the light to weak. I have a yellow polyp frag that is doing very well.

I have never been to any meetings and I unfortunately have misplaced my membership card, would I still be able to attend? I am not very knowledgeable and wouldnt have much input but would love to meet the folks I talk to and read about on the forum.

It is a usa current 18 watt w/ a 50/50 bulb

the non-photosynthetic gorgorgian, how fast do they grow and is that a filter feeder or does it need to be target fed. How could we go about a transaction?
-
I did just feed the tank. The snails are about the size of marbles and the clients really enjoy the show also.
-
Thats my tank. Wow what a small world. How is your dog doing?
-
would you be able to grace me with some photos and maybe a price or two?

it has been running for little more than a year. I am interested in finding a nice star pollyp frag but other than that I dont know. I am not sure if the lighting will be good enough for a star pollyp. Do you have any ideas? All are welcome.

This is my JBJ 3 gallon picotope.

Hello All, I am excited to tell you all that my tank is still doing nicely. I have only suffered 2 losses and I think we are coming up on a year. Here are some reminder pictures and some updated ones. That was then This is now These things really grow So what do you guys/gals think?

I am sorry it took so long to reply, I havent been in to this area of the site in a long while. Was the hospital you went to The Regional Vet Referral Center? There is a 24 hour ER there. If so then it was my tank you saw. I work there. Thats cool. What did you think?

So it has been a while since I have posted to the forum but I love reading all you guys have on here. However, today I have a story that will make some of you smile. I went to Wally's in Annandale ( I like to get frags from them) and was admiring some colonies of Yellow Pollop Annemones. One of the colonies was attached to a clam but they were selling the thing thinking it was a piece of live roch instead. I scored and they let me have it for the 25.00 as advertised on the tank. So I made the purchase. I know it was silly to do so with out investigating the type of calm but what the hey. So know I need to ID this thing. The only distiguishing thing about it is that it appears to have spikey/spiney like appendages around the opening. It does not display any of the colors that the fancy clams do. I would post a picture but it is aclimating to a slow drip at the moment. Any ideas anyone???

Hey all, It has been a while since I have been to the forum and need some advice. My little nano is doing well. I recently added a silver dollar sized colony of orange skirt zooanthids. I have questions about feeding, and today I noticed that the pollyps were all opening and closing often. Upon closer inspection I discovered what looks like a nudibranch about 0.5 mm in length. I have only noticed it off of the colony once and it seems to not want to be anywhere but. It looks exactly like the pollyps of the zoanthid, with orange finger like appendeges (sp) extending from multiple areas of its thin slug like body. The zooanthids seem to be very annoyed by this thing and I am wondering if it is trying to eat the coral or stinging it or just wanting to seek cover. Please help.

Hello all and thanks in advance for your advice. I would like to address lighting before I get into the Anemone. My tank has compact flourescents on it now. 1 9 watt actinic and 1 9 watt 10,000 K daylight. I am wondering if this is sufficient or if I have to upgrade to a mini metal halide. If I can avoid it I would like to. My choices for anemones are: Curlique anemone (Bartholomea annulata)- I have been told that this is reef safe. Florida Condy (Conylactis gigantea) Flower Anemone (Epicystis Crucifer)- I was told that these dont roam and I really like this one Pink Tip Anemone (Conylactis gigantea)

Thank you all for your info. I have kept an eye on the base of the coral since I have had it and it looks to be ok in that area. I was wondering if anyone thinks this could be leading up to a splitting of the coral. It looks like the opening in the middle is starting to divide into two parts.

What do you think from the looks of the pics Mike? I havent noticed any loss of heads but this not the first time this as happened. I noticed that brown stuff two weeks ago strung across some macro algea. This is the first time i have witnessed the act and seen the origin of the brown slime. thanks for your prompt responses. What kind of things should i look for next to give me a sign of what to expect...

Hope the pictures help diagnose this problem. You can see the brown stuff in question in the center of the hammer coral

Hey all, This is a strange question but I dont know what this stuff is. My hammer coral has this brown stuff coming out of the whol ein the middle of it ( I thought it was a mouth) It looks a little like poop but has the consistancy of thick vomit and it is brown. All of the tenticls are shrinking and I have no idea if it is splitting or dying. Please help. I will tryto get a picture and attach to this in a moment. thanks Andre

Yup, it hangs around 82-83 degrees F. Is that way to high? My fish seems to love it and my hammer as actually split, reproduced, cloned what ever term is used when it grows. Everything in the tank is thriving. I am considering adding another clown but I am really torn between a blue damsel or a pipe fish. I will have to do some research and decide. The HOB and Aquaclear PH are making some rather significant waves. I believe the daylight bulb is a 9 watt 10,000K and the actinic is 9 watts aswell. The shrimp stay on the backside of the rock work but I have recently made some aquascape changes to see if he might stay more visable.

great pictures do you know if the owner of the tank in I think is th 20th picture (has the frags shelves) is selling the frags because I would be interested in some for my nano. I think it was chips tank.

I top it off daily and it drop about a cup of water a day. I was going to fashion one out of wood but I really want to incorporate the curved front into the canopy and have not found any woood that will bend that well.

Hello all who find this... I am new to saltwater and decided I would break the rules and go nano. So my choice of poison has been the JBJ Picotope. It is a mini 3 gallon bowfront. It has been running for 4 months now and seems to be doing great. My filter is a small HOB that came with the unit and I added a aquaclear 10 powerhead that is on a timer coming on and going off every 15 minutes. It has a little hydor heater that keeps at a comfy 82 degrees. The light is a corallife fixture I got off of ebay and has a 10k daylight bulb and an actinic bulb. It has 6lbs of live sand and 3lbs of live rock that I purchased from ebay also. The live rock was actually refugium rubble that I super glued together. I do about a 2000ml water change every 3 to 4 days and replace it with a synthetic salt mix, swapping that out once a month for seawater I purchased a my LFS. (read it was good for trace elements) I test for NH3, NO2, NO3, & pH everyother day and check my S.G. (1.026) and salinity (35%) daily. My Inhabitants so far: 1 Artemia snail (or at least I think that is waht they are called) 4 Margarita Snails 6 Nassarius Snails 4 Tiny Blue Legged Hermit Crabs 1 Skunk Cleaning Shrimp 1 Clownfish 1 Feather Duster Worm 1 Unconfirmed Frogspawn Coral (please help confirm I.D.) a touch of Green Caulpera and Red Grape Caulpera So I think that is all the technical stuff. If I have missed anything please feel free to ask and I will try to answer as best as I can. I am open to all advise and suggestion on improving things or on future coral choices. I am also trying to figure out a good way to fassion a canopy top for this tank. Here is an attempt at photos...I hope you enjoy.

Thank you very much sir. It means alot to hear that, being new to this and all. I have my heater on a timer with my lights. Lights on heater off. So the tank lights and room temp keep the tank at about 80-81 degree farenheight and I use my heater to support the norm when temps drop at night. So far so good. thanks for I.D.ing that coral for me. My LFS is great but can seem a little off at times.
