  1. What is your feeding regime for them? I'd be interested but I want to make sure I can care for them properly.
  2. Larryag59, where are you located? You might be near someone that would give you a piece of live rock to get things going a bit.
  3. Haven't used one but seriously considering picking one up as a PAR meter after BRS did a comparison of the Seneye PAR readings to a $2700+ unit and the readings from both were virtually identical. The Seneye may be a best buy as far as just a PAR meter goes. Video where they did the comparison is at http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/video/view/week-46-seneye-tank-update/
  4. I actually have one of each on my 90G right now. I would only recommend the Gyre if you design your tank around it, work for me since half my tank has a large flat piece of rock that is angled so that the Gyre blows right across it and all of my SPS there. On the other side of my tank the rock work is not as friendly so I have my MP40. Working well for me so far but I also went through two complete sets of blades for the Gyre until I built my cover to keep my small snails out, having to spend $35 on new blades after spending $300 on the pump did not make me terribly happy.
  5. Welcome to the club, always happy to see more Maryland members. I'm just a bit north of you in Ellicott City.
  6. Like Squishie89 said nice to see more reefers in Maryland. Joining up so you can see the sale section and attend the meeting is totally worth it.
  7. Welcome to the club, always happy to see more Marylanders.
  8. Seahorses and pipefish will do fine at around the normal 78 degree range. There is some evidence that the vibro bacteria has a much slower growth rate at temps below 75 so many people keep their seahorse tanks at 74-75 but it's not absolutely necessary. And honestly I know a number of people that keep pipefish at 78-80 degrees with success.
  9. If you keep the sand damp it will stay live and be good to go. I don't really think you'd need to wash it at all, was only used for 3 days.
  10. My wife and I will be taking the metro in friday afternoon. The DC metro is not great but it will eventually get you where you need to go.
  11. Looks like good growth to me. Looking really great!
  12. Yeah was wondering the same thing, my first shift is Saturday morning so I wanted to make sure I knew everything I needed to
  13. Man so tempting, that is an awesome looking fish.
  14. They look awesome! Are they only eating live food right now?
  15. Also do we need to mention anything special when we're checking in to the conference about being a volunteer to get our T-shirt or anything like that or is it all handled?
  16. Didn't realize that you needed to confirm with you, the e-mail you sent out doesn't say that we need to so that may be why the response rate is so low. I'll respond after posting here.
  17. I'll likely be parking at a metro along the red line and just taking the metro in. Glad someone posted how expensive parking is at the hotel because I missed it initially. I could buy a whole colony for the cost of parking for the conference, crazy....
  18. Looking for a number of encrusting montis, some colorful millies, and some staghorns myself. Plus anything that really catches my eye but I've got a rough plan for my tank in my head that I'm trying to fill out.
  19. .02-.04 for phosphate is where I try and keep it. I honestly don't normally measure nitrates unless something has gone terribly wrong in the tank.
  20. Would really like one of these but at this price point I'm not willing to be one of the first to test it I don't think. Will be very interested to see it in action at MACNA.
  21. Filled the survey out, don't have a ton of free time but I may be able to update to include some time on Friday also. Need to work out with my wife when we can show up or whether I may be able to arrive before she does since she has to work that Friday.
  22. Yeah if you buy a Gyre you need to consider the live stock you have. Very small snails will shred your pump, I went through two sets before I put together a workable cover to keep them out.
  23. Avast CS3 with Swabbie and skimmate locker. I have a CS1 with all of that on my 90G and it is awesome. Works fantastic and the swabbie and skimmate locker reduce my workload on caring for the skimmer to a monthly affair.
  24. The very first fish that I got when I entered the salt water side of the aquarium hobby 7 years ago just passed away. Vince the Firefish was purchased at the House of Tropicals about 7 years ago, when I took my then girlfriend, now wife there to pick a fish out for the 55G tank I had setup to keep seahorses in per her request to have seahorses after seeing the seahorse display at the National Aquarium. He's lived through 4 different tanks and one house move, starting out in a 55G, moving to a 90G in the basement at my townhouse at the time, then 3 years ago moving to my new place in Ellicott City in another 90G, and then 3 months ago moving into a 29G cube. While I'm very sad that he has passed away I'm happy that he had a good long life, way outliving every estimate I could find as to the length of their lifespan.
