  1. When I ran a bc29, I used to do water changes that were nearly 100%. I'd get a new test kit and start doing doing big changes with good source water. If you don't already have an rodi, make that your next purchase.
  2. My tank finally ran out so I got it filled today. The fill is 50 bar/750 psi. This seems low but it has been a while since I needed a fill. I thought full was closer to 1500. So, did I get a short fill or am I remembering wrong?
  3. If there will be any pressure on the joint I would use a bulkhead or uniseal. If you glue it and it stresses it could crack.
  4. Do you have algae growing that might be absorbing it all?
  5. Sometimes its junk built up in the overflow teeth. If you have a little bit of algae in the teeth, then the water level in teh tank is probably al ittle high. A little bit on a surface area much larger than your sump can be enough extra water draining before the siphon breaks to overflow the sump.
  6. It should be a slow stream. It shouldn't be so slow its dripping unless you have it at teh limit for head pressure. I would start by checking the connections to make sure they are air tight. Then, try lowering the pump a little and seeing if it picks up. If so, you could just have it up too high.
  7. 50 lb is a big freaking CO2 tank. You shouldnt have to go often.
  8. Quantum Reefs I think will be the place when they open. If you are new to the area but not the hobby, check out Roozens too. It's not a place I would send a newbie to though.
  9. Sorry, posted that from the mobile version, which doesn't show your location. QR's new location is not far from me so I assumed you were closer.
  10. I've got a premium aquatics order with free shipping going out this week. May be able to call Jeremy and add to my order still if that would help you. PM if interested. I'm in Alexandria.
  11. I'm sure you have a heater. They fail. I'll get an alarm if the tank stays too cool for too long. In the maintenance biz, I would think the ability to monitor and make emergency changes from anywhere would be a great asset.
  12. A very very small one. Do you have a sump or a HOB you could put a filter bag in?
  13. I use the smartphone app to turn outlets on/off regularly. Far easier than using the display. Sooner or later something WILL fail. My system is also setup with the intention that failures won't be critical. However, they can still be detected and a notification sent out. It seems like a real head in the sand approach to leave a significant feature like that on the table unused.
  14. Why would you ever do that? First of all, the display is not easier. And on top of that, then you lose email alerts and smartphone control. I use a wireless game adapter. You can get a refurb WNCE2001 for less than $30. That's what I use. I've also used a TrendNet and that works fine too. http://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-WNCE2001-Universal-Internet-Adapter/dp/B007CO5DZ4/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1362871329&sr=1-1&keywords=wnce2001+refurbished Some people use the powerline adapters and say they are easier/more reliable, but I had trouble with them and the wireless adapters seem cheaper anyway.
  15. I think it's true. Lowest readings I've ever had we're when I had nuisance algae. It's the basic idea behind turf scrubbers.
  16. They sell a version with a built in pump now.
  17. I'd go with the Apex Lite in that case. I would say the Apex Jr, but I don't think it has the digital inputs. To measure water on the floor, you can get their leak detector module or get a water bug and wire it up to a breakout box. For water level, get float sensors (autotopoff.com) or pressure sensors (avast) and wire then to a breakout box.
  18. Exactly. If the temp reading is that low the probe has probably gone bad.
  19. Oops, that was the old program. New program is 1 min off 10 min on minimums. Fallback OFF If Temp < 76.5 Then ON If Temp > 76.6 Then OFF If Temp < 60.0 Then OFF Defer 000:01 Then ON Defer 000:10 Then OFF
  20. I've got it set not to turn on or off for periods less than five minutes. Heaters last fine. I finally replaced my latest one after a couple years out of caution.
  21. I have a 0.1 threshold for the heater. Light heats it up a couple degrees during the day but at night it stays within .1-.2 of the set point.
  22. My herbie is noise and salt creep free. I will admit I haven't setup many 1000g tanks, but a fail to see the relevance.
  23. The ones with interesting colors don't seem to propagate as easy. There are yellow ones that aren't died. I'd be interested in a clone if one popped up but not a slice and dice. The track record for that seems great or total loss. Too risky for me. I've got a green with bright orange tips now and it's the centerpiece of my tank. I could see going with more BTAs and less corals myself.
