  1. I noticed that too. Ocean water and tap for top off. This is a recipe for trouble. Stop using the ocean water unless you are able to get well out to see and collect it well below the surface. The water on the surface and the shore can be highly polluted. For all you know, you are putting gasoline contaminated water in your tank and who knows what that will do.
  2. I suppose it would be possible. I would think extremely unlikely. Are you sure it isn't corraline?
  3. Do you have a box? I'd pay shipping. Otherwise, I think I'm going to have to miss out on a great deal.
  4. Its fine.
  5. If you are going to the meeting, I'll take the 1260. Otherwise I don't know how I'd pick it up. Got a pic?
  6. Since this was my first visit, I don't know if there is a lot of fish for them or not. There were 4+ fish in every tank though, so there were hundreds there. The guy said they get shipments 4 times a week and thought there might be one today yet.
  7. I went to Roozens for the first time today. It is an interesting place. You definitely need to know what you are looking for and what you are looking at, but they have a lot of stuff. They also had some things that are hard to find like Cyclopeeze at a fair price. I went once and discussed a pair of true percs and was given a fair price. I went back with my wife later (she likes to help pick out the fish). I got a different price from a different person, but it was less and both prices were fair so that was OK with me. I was a little surprised that the guy was hesitant to sell me two clowns out of different tanks. Its not often you hear things like that from a shop. He insisted on putting them together first to ensure they wouldn't fight. And they didn't, so that was good. After he bagged them, he wrote the price on the bag with a marker. So, no issues at the register either. Overall, it was about as good an experience as any LFS. I'm sure I'll shop there again.
  8. A series resistor will not change the current through the LED.
  9. You are overdue for some bulbs, and it sounds like you could use some more flow- oxygen in the water will help. You will need new test kits, and you should check especially on such a small system more routinely.
  10. I just don't find it appropriate for a store to complain about their customers. Vendor feedback makes sense to help people choose where to spend their money. Customer feedback just doesn't. I don't doubt that you put a lot of effort into your store, as I said before, I've heard good things. I just don't think a thread like this should have ever been made.
  11. I haven't made it out to BRK yet, but it was on my list as a well regarded store to go visit. I have to say though, all of this complaining about customers by vendors is really off-putting to me. To get to BRK, I'll have to take probably a half day to get out there, look around, and get home. Something just doesn't sit right with me that the store would feel it necessary to publicly complain about customers not being "fair." As to the other LFS's patting on the back for this, that's in bad taste too. I see this same stuff in dive shops. I don't understand it.
  12. I ran an ato in my biocube and it was great. I'll never run a tank without one. Mine was float switched though not the Tunze. I think it should fit ok but I'd bet there is a thread somewhere on nanoreef definitively saying so.
  13. Nice setup and equipment. I have a lot of the same and am very happy with it. Is that yellow power strip secured well? It looks like it is hanging off center there - wouldn't want it to fall in the sump.
  14. Some split regularly, some just don't. There are lots of theories from feeding to starving to stressing to making them "happy" to get them to split. About the only way to make them split for sure is with a knife. Although I've never done it myself, they can be cut. I've read of everything from 0 to 100% success doing it though, so read up on it or see if you can find someone who has done it and can offer tips before doing it yourself.
  15. I don't think they do. IMHO, two connecting points are better than one, and I prefer to keep my quick release plates on the tripod mount.
  16. Optech makes a good strap at a much lower price.
  17. I've got almost a full container my fish won't eat (too big). Interested? I'm in Alexandria. I bought it at pristine aquatics. Although they have it, I think they are over priced.
  18. What it sounds like Mr Coral is saying is that many of those items have already been sold on the internet. If you see something you want online, buy it that way and pick it up. Otherwise, it might be sold by the time you see it and you can't have it then. It didn't sound like he was saying you could not buy things in the store that had not already been sold. I've never been to his store though.....
  19. I haven't seen any in stores, but I haven't been to all of them either. I always just order from hellolights - free shipping on MH bulbs. If you aren't in a hurry they also tend to offer discounts on holidays.
  20. I wouldn't be surprised if premium Aquatics ran at least 10% off on Xmas. They have for the last several holidays.
  21. I use a foam pad type thing BRS sells. Works great.
  22. Ditto here. What's the location and what do you need?
  23. That's crazy. I've used a lot of stealth heaters. One had a thermostat failure but still kept ticking on a controller. Another leaked current. I have always run them fully submerged. Is this a newer one? I've heard of more problems with the newer ones. At this point, I'm not sure I'd buy another one.
  24. The heater is working fine and it is doing exactly what it is supposed to do. I don't want a big heater that is capable of heating the tank quickly. I'd prefer it running as close to 100% capacity as possible. If the temp gets low, it will email me and I have a bigger heater I can throw in.
  25. I think I'll lower it to 75 and see how it goes.
