  1. If you get them to breed, remember who picked out the loving couple for you
  2. you can find more information about it under our section in the Vendors forum. http://wamas.org/forums/topic/57992-quantum-reefs-retail-grand-opening-615/
  3. Welcome to the area. If you have time this weekend, come by. We are in Springfield, so really close to Ft Belvoir and it just so happens that we will be having our our grand opening celebration and sale this weekend. I'm sure you won't have a problem finding things to fill up that tank of yours.
  4. Yep. They indicated that the cost to care and breed them didn't justify what they were selling them for and that they couldn't compete with the availability and cost of the wild caught ones. They then focused on breeding the greeen spot mandarin, but even those have been on and off on the stocklist and availability. I spoke to them last week and they indicated that they "might" reattempt breeding their stock again, but not date as to when. We were lucky enough to get 1 green spot out of them for our store opening. In our experience, mandarins are very particular and wild caught or not, they are the same... although the tank bred ones are healthier, a change in environment will cause a mandarin to suddenly forget how to eat. It just takes time and care to ensure they eat frozen... which is why they are listed in the difficult or advanced category
  5. It is with pleasure that I am able to announce that we will officially be open for business next weekend (6/15). Please join us for a Grand Opening Celebration and 15th. We are still seeking permission to hold a BBQ in the back of the store, but either way, we will have plenty of food and beverages (non alcoholic) for everyone. Here's the take on what's planned thus far: Address: 7025 Brookfield Plaza, Springfield, VA 22150 (703) 688-3106 Store Hours: 11am-9pm Monday-Saturday, 11am-7pm Sundays... yes, we'll be open for business 7 days a week Food and drinks (served between noon and 2pm) Raffle drawings will take place at 5pm (more info below) Sale, Sale, Sale... no need to go into details. It's a grand opening, so the sales will be pretty nice For the Raffle, we will have the following for the lucky winners: $100 Gift Certificate good on livestock... 1 winners $50 Gift Certificate good on livestock... 4 winners $25 Gift Certificate good for Livestock... 4 winners 75 Gallon Marineland Glass Aquarium... 2 winners 20 Gallon Long Marineland Glass Aquarium... 2 winners No purchase necessary. Everyone that stops by will get a raffle ticket. You can increase your chance of winning by making purchases. Purchase $20 or more, get 3 additional tickets Purchase $75 or more, get 10 additional tickets Purchase $125 or more, get 20 additional tickets Purchase $200 or more and get 40 additional tickets. Drawing will be held at 7pm on Saturday, June 15th. No need to be present to win. We will announce all winners and tickets numbers on Wamas as well as our website once the drawing has been finalized. You can then stop by and pick up your prize if you have the winning ticket. By the way, for the event, we are getting in a huge order from Algagen.... if you're looking for Pods, this is the time... for this weekend only, all prices are at huge discounts. These will be fresh off their production lines. Also, we will be getting in their new line of PhycoPure Zooxanthellae. from Algagen "It is a pure culture, 2 strains of live zooxanthellae. Reports are coming in that people have brought bleached corals back,, easier coral acclimation, and "enhanced coloration". This is a product that is added to a tank completely and can be done monthly if desired." We will also be getting in fresh live mysids shrimp and marine feeder shrimps. We plan on stocking live food at our store on a regular basis and these are a great alternative to the disease ridden feeder goldfish and guppies and a lot more healthy than live brine shrimp (which we also plan to stock) As this week progresses, we'll have more updates (time permitting) and there may be other raffle prizes added to the list. Thanks again WAMAS for your continue support. We hope to see lots of you there to support us as we venture out into this unforgiving world of owning your own LFS. Show us that all our hard work, long hours and a empty piggy bank will be worthwhile By the way, although the Grand Opening raffle and BBQ will take place on Saturday, the sales will continue through the weekend. Special savings on Sunday for dads on Fathers Day.

  8. Firefish - can be very territorial and aggressive Purple Firefish - - can be very territorial and aggressive, but less then the firefish above Purple Dotty Back - don't even think about it Royal Gamma - perhaps, they are known to be mild and peaceful, but we've had folks report to us that they can become territorial yellow clown gobies or citron clown gobies are pretty cool. they like to host, or rest on corals as well... small and lots of personality based on your preference, you might want to consider helfrichi firefish. They are absolutely stunning, purple and totally peaceful and reef safe. Best in pairs though and since you have a hood, that would work since they are known jumpers

  10. Hey... you said you wouldn't let this bromance get public
  11. Yes, No, Maybe so.. but seriously, after our last discussion, i got one in.. just in case you got that itch, it'll be ready...
  12. LOL... I've got a RLSS 6I right here that was sent to us that says with a label that reads "don't open... reserved for Andre"
  13. go forth and conquer... you'll be fine. don't worry too much about the nooks and crannies... like i said, increase the ratio of the peroxide and you'll see everything bubble, including those located in the nooks... get a toothbrush if you're worried since you can get in between the small spaces a lot better... that brush you have is a bit big... see how everything goes in a few days...
  14. just scrub what you can of the bubble algae... let the bubbles burst in the hydrogen peroxide and the peroxide will take care of the rest... make sure to swoosh and rinse in clean salt water or tank water... put back in tank... swing by sometime this week... got some emerald crabs that will take care of the rest of the bubble algae you don't scrub off... just make sure to catch them before you put fish in since they is da devil...
  15. go to CVS, got a few bottles of hydrogen peroxide. Mix a 5-1 solution (5 times tank water to 1 ratio of hydrogen peroxide). get a soft toothbrush (at the dollar store or somewhere cheap). put the rocks in the bucket for about 5-10 minutes and scrub lightly with the toothbrush. Have another bucket of tank water ready and rinse the rock around by swooshing it around and put it back in tank. You'll see bubbles where the algae is and within a day, it will turn white.. .within a few days, all the algae will be gone... ... it works like magic.
  16. worst pump i ever owned. The name is quiet deceiving... loud and unreliable. I had the Quiet One 4000 on my 120 gallon a couple of years ago and was scared to death each time the power cut off or i had to shut the pump off for maintenance... literally a waiting game, sitting there hoping and praying that it would start pushing water again... sometimes taking a minute, sometimes taking an hour for it to start churning... i was so happy when it finally died and i got an ehiem 1262 to replace it. for quiet and reliability, look for an ehiem or a waveline 5000... those wavelines are great, quiet and controllable.
  17. welcome. we've got several All-In-Ones here, including a Nanocube. Lots of different ways to run them and all can be very fun. A 29 gallon Biocube is a really good size and can be modded in lots of different ways. As the saying goes, before I got into reef tanks, I was just a normal guy, now, I'm an electrician, a plumber, woodworker and an architect
  18. i'd go with either the ehiem hobby pumps or even the maxijet utility pumps would be quieter
  19. so... this is the smile after a satisfied meal... I think he was mocking me with that smile
  20. definitely. It will be some time before they become available... I believe May timeframe but from all early indications, they are not making the controllers available for the pumps "for awhile". Not sure why, but this is what we were told when inquiring about the release timeline. Hopefully, when the time draws near, this will not be the case and they'll make both available at the same time.
  21. so far, so good. the planets are aligning for ya.
  22. Looking good so far Tracy. you're gonna love that RLSS skimmer... the ability to reduce and increase the flow to maximize the bubbles in your skimmer is gonna be really cool.
  23. you can get something like this: http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/catalog/product/view/id/106/ you hook it up to your kitchen or bathroom sink and put the tubing that feeds the water to the ro/di unit to the adapter. The nice thing about this is that the lever will allow you to adjust to switch the water direction so that it either goes to your ro/di unit or comes out of the sink adapter. this way, you won't have to hook or unhook the ro/di unit after each use.
